Really, just as Putin forced the West's hand, the West is now forcing Russia's hand. Sure my view isn't perfect, but I see only 3 ends to this.

1. Putin relents and hands Crimea back to Ukraine, along with withdrawing all military (including shadowy pseudo-military) from eastern Ukraine. Western powers will find it in their best interests to release sanctions, restore world economic state closer to what it was at the beginning of 2014 and Russia's gdp will continue to grow again. I think this is the best for everyone.

2. Russian people enter a state of relative insurrection, likely bloody, creating a humanitarian disaster and an identity crisis for one of the largest, most powerful countries in the world. If successful the Russian people ultimately win at terrible cost.

3. War. Russian identity script flips to national socialism and rallying under the call of world "bullying" begins operating as a pariah in association with many rogue states, culminating into a destructive 3rd world war. No one wins.
