Sup /b/

20 years old and I've never smoked anything until today. Dad gave me a cigar in celebration for his sister beating breast cancer. Lit it up, figured out how to smoke it, and it was actually really pleasant.

I don't know what brand it is, but a cigar every once in a while to wind down sounds nice. Give me suggestions.

tl;dr good cigar types and brands
pic somewhat related

smoking a ghurka now, it's the best one i've tried so far (tried around 10 diff brands) also stay away from convenience store cigars.

cigars have higher levels of nicotine than cigs so yes but it feels so fuckin good
>>
>>583144258
Arturo Fuente Hemmingway's are pretty decent, stay away from the stupid acid cigars (if they're even made anymore)
>>
>>583145090
You don't inhale cigar smoke, retard. You savor the taste and blow it out without ever taking it into your lungs.
>>583144957
Highly doubt it (see above comment). Especially since it'll only be once in a while and when I have a little extra dough.
>>
edge by rocky patel, a bit expensive but worth it for a quality smoke.
>>
>>583144786
Yeah, I figured to steer clear of cheap shit.
>>
So how do smoke one correctly?
&
What brands do you recommend?
>>
Depends on your palette, they are like wine or beer. If you are liking the Gurkha (there's a hell of a lot of Gurkha's out there) take note of the wrapper color. Keep the band and go ask your local humidor about it. There are a lot of excellent smokes coming from Nicaragua if you like medium bodied maduro's check out some of the smokes rolled by Pepin Garcia or his son Jaime, the My Father line is pretty good. If you want a really nice one go buy one of the Padron Anniversary series, start with a 1964 (they are about 12 to 16 bucks depending on what you want) if budget is not an aiise try a Padron 1926 Robusto. Smoke them slow, get a cigar hot and it tastes like shit. My smokes usually last me about an hour and a half to two. I like Cubans, but just because it's from Cuba doesn't mean it's a good cigar. Read about cigars on the internet and get educated, there is a lot to know.

if your starting out i would recommend light connecticut wrapped cigars until you get used to working through the flavors, then move up to darker wraps.
>>
>>583145929
Suck on it like a straw in a milkshake, keep your throat closed, and enjoy the flavor. Don't inhale it like a cigarette or weed.

And I made this thread to find a brand.
>>
I have never been a huge Rocky Patel fan but the Decade was ok, the Edge he mentioned might be a little strong for a beginner. If you start feeling like you should stop smoking it, then stop right then, you will stay buzzed on a cigar a lot longer than you would a cigarette, too much of a good cigar sucks.

You do realise cigars have the highest rate of mouth cancer.
>>
There are some really strong sicks out there like the Double Ligero rolled by Lido Gomez, really tasty smoke but packs a serious wallop. Smoke after a full meal at first and relax, it makes a huge difference on how you experience it

some smokes are crazy expensive, that doesn't make it a great cigar (though there are some really great expensive cigars, the Padron 80th comes to mind) take your time with it and learn about it, you might like it. Aging makes a big difference, I have some smokes that are several years old, they are completely different than when I bought them

Undercrown is the only one I've really enjoyed that isn't too expensive. I liked it over the handful of Cubans and other brands I've bought or have been given.

MADURO MADURO
>>
Oldfag here, and quite a cigar enthusiast. Kristoff is the best cigar you can get imo. However Punch, ACID, Arturo Fuente are a few others you can check out.
>>
I'm a pretty avid cigar smoker and for new smokers who can pick our your basic flavors, i.e nut, butter, leather, pepper, earth, and coco, I would recommend Oliva Connecticut(mild), Diamond Crown #4(mild), CAO La Traviata Maduro(med), Liga Privida Undercrown(med-full), La Flor Dominicana Air Bender(med), Liga Privida #9(full), and La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero(full+++)
>>
When I first started out I really liked Drew Estate Acid line. I forgot which one's I specifically liked but they are pretty light and great for newcomers or if you want a lighter one now and again.
>>
I enjoy Ashton VSG and Acid Blue by Drew Estate. Depends on my mood.
>>
>>583147413
Yeah agreed. But I do want to quit cigarettes for good. I quit for about six months then started having them at parties and shit. Not good man.

ITT: (lung) Cancer

most humidors suggest 70% humidity at 70 degrees, I smoke mostly cubans which are best at 65%. It's a huge world of choices out there. someone suggested light onnecticut shade wrappers, that is not a bad suggestion, but you may find (like I did) that I like maduro's better, your local humidor will know what yo recommend if you tell them what you like. I like medium to full bodied smokes that are complex flavor profiles, usually maduro or camaroon wrapper, 50 ring gauge or so. Earthy flavors are preferred, i do not personally like spicy cigars much. describe what you like, they will help. It helps to ask, a shitty cigar is a terrible way to start
>>
I always feel retarded when someone hands me a cigar. I have tried like 4 times, I just can't do it. People always tell me to suck on it like a straw but don't inhale, but for some reason i can't seem to make my mouth do that. It's embarrassing and I end up just wasting the cigar, inhaling the smoke and coughing up a lung.
>>
>>583147463
this guy is spot on
>>
>>583147471
These are all very good cigars, and available at most decent humidors
>>
i always like cao maduros. like 10 bucks a piece. really nice flavor. also...dipping end in some nice bourbon is rad.

I stick to my vape and weed but I've always wanted to try a cigar pic related
>>
>>583147919
Okay make a fishy face with your lips. You know what I mean. You use that same gesture to draw the smoke into your mouth but not your lungs. There's really no inhaling involved at all. It's just creating negative pressure with your lips
>>
>>583148201
It's basically like the exact opposite of doing a french inhale
>>
>>583148006
Try a fuente short story, those are nice little smokes, and they don't take an hour to smoke
>>

>tfw want to vape but trying to quit cigarettes and nicotine all together.
>>
Guys, why whenever I smoke I dont taste anything? I remember the first cigar and a couple more they had great flavor but now its all just like smoke flavor. I think its something about the way im lighting it. Any tips?
>>
>>583148201
i'll try that next time. Usually I'm not an idiot and understand instructions fine, but something about cigars transforms me into a dumbass.
>>
Are you supposed to inhale cigar smoke or do you just hold it in your mouth? I've heard both.
>>
oh, and no shit on the not inhaling. Inhaling a load of cigar smoke is a great way to set yourself up for an evening hugging a toilet. They are strong
>>
>>583148149
Setup?
>>
>>583148443
You don't taste anything? Go get one of the Kristoff's someone recommended, they are tasty. If it's lit it's lit, you will know it. some people use cedar strips, I just light em up with a torch llighter
>>

>>
>>583148909
I use a torch but i usually burn it i think too much. And my faggot friends keep convincing me to buy acid toasts but they are so gross. I think i had a nat sherman a few times and it was pretty good. I'll try again next week I might get an Opus to celebrate the end of exams although I probably wont appreciate it since I have only had about 10 cigars in my lifetime
>>
if you want flavor, take a full mouthful of smoke, hold it in your mouth and puff your cheeks out and then blow it out. You will taste flavors that you didn't know were there.

>>
>>583149325
Yeah see I don't even think it's the nicotine for me. I got such a good rush and feeling when inhaling and blowing smoke out of my mouth.
>>

>>
>>583144258
Rocky Patell
They are very highly rated, and for good reason.

>>583144957
not really, good cigars have no chemical additives that are the real reason cigarettes are addictive

>>583145090
Cigars have a tiny chance of giving you cancer, its the ammonia and other things in cigarettes that are bad for you
>>
>>583149420
Just vape 0 nic juice
>>
Also if you're having a really special cigar for a special occasion look into the Padron Anny series, Opus X series, any PG stick, and My Father cigars.
>>
acid cigars are flavored, I don't like em either. The Opus is a helluva cigar, but if you are going to buy a nice one, i would say try a Padron 1926 Robusto or a Padron 80th Figurado. Those are very unique and excellent Nicaraguan puros (a Nicaraguan puro is all Nicaraguan tobacco, wrapper, binder and filler)

>>
I agree that the OP image has some really nice cigars on it, the Camacho triple maduro is badass, the La Aurora is also really good but better with age, Gurkha? they sold out, for Rocky's I like the 92 and the decade. that macanudo? I wouldn't use that tasteless turd to light a fire with. That stated, they actually came out with a cigar that was pretty goo, I think it was a 1968? or some year like that.

Get one of those samplers from Cigars International, or, ask your local humidor what they have for your budget. whatever you get, get a humi-pack or your cigars will taste like pencil shavings rolled up in construction paper. It always cracks me up when someone get out "the cuban" they have been saving in their dresser drawer for three years waiting for "the occasion". The thing burns like a sparkler and smells like a trash fire and they always say "I don't get it" or "Ah...this is living", while they have the look on their face of a person smoking a dry dog turd. haha!
