a single flowering plant can produce tremendous smells even WITH carbon filtering

during harvest or close to it shutting off the filter would result in a pungent smell that permeates the whole house and probably your garden too.

on a hot dry day the smell can stay in a certain area and build up to levels where you cant ignore it unless you are utterly ignorant about mj .

with carbon filters and a solid air tight setup the smell is minimal . combined with a chimney as exhaust smell is a non issue

however i make a scrog screen, and grow in coco coir, perlite, and in air pots,

this acts as a hydroponic medium but still treaded and water fed as it is in soil like in your images, this and scrogging and training can squeez an extra ounce outa your plants,

this is bad advice. As important to the amount of light is the quality and color spectrum of the light. CFLs have a shitty spectrum and poor light intensity. If you're going to grow under fluorescent (which is generally kind of a bad idea) you should be using a T5 grow light (a quick google search will bring up several for under $100).

Really, even a little closet grow like this should be using an HID light, preferably High Pressure Sodium. Two plants will do just fine under one 100-150w hps light. You can pick up an HID grow fixture for about $50.

You will produce more and it will be higher quality. If you have specific questions about light spectrum or technology I can answer those.

When plants are experiencing stem growth, they are sensitive to blue light with wavelengths between 430 to 450 nm.

When plants are flowering they are sensitive to red light with wavelengths between 640-680 nm.

Stem growth is important, but not nearly as important as flowering growth. Since the spectrums on those CFLs suck, you aren't getting much light in those specific wavelengths anyway and that "white" CFL isn't doing much good.

HPS puts the majority of its light out in a red-shifted spectrum with a large portion of its light between 640-680 nm.

Also, "bare bulb" grows waste more than 50% of lumens put out by the bulb. You're lighting you ceiling and walls as well as your plants. A reflector directs about 90% of that light onto your plants.

A CFL is a bulb, not a fixture. This grow suggest bare bulb CFLs with no fixture.

Fluorescent lights don't put off a ton of heat. The spiral design in CFLs is to ensure even light distribution and create a lamp that fits in common fixtures. It has nothing to do with heat dissipation.

I grow on a 4'x4' pallet with a single 315w Philips Ceramic Metal Halide lamp, powered by a Global electronic ballast in a Vertigro fixture. Its an expensive set up (~$400) but its the highest quality light available outside of plasma and its the most efficient technology currently available.
