How dumb do you stupid religious fuckers feel now?
Your fucking pope believes in evolution and the big bang. Says god does not have a magic wand to make things happen.
Explain why you still don't believe it, you fucking dummy. Can't wait to hear it.
The Big Bang was theorized by a Roman Catholic priest named Georges Lemaître you worthless piece of fucking shit. Secondly, only a very vew fundamentalist Christians still reject the theory of evolution.
Remember that it's still a theory under the subset of anthropic discourse. You're going to have to deal with bigger problems like the divide between realism and idealism before you start talking in absolute terms about anything in experience you dildo jelqing fucking faggot.
I'm a christian (I think, but like a early christian) and I' d say that Francis is really a Christian pope, not a catholic pope. He is the real deal, someone that this religion really needed. The religion of christianity, so destroyed and blasphemed by catholics, who put a bad name on it.
Yeah this is so stupid, because big bang just happened like that, and people evolved at one time so fast, just like that. Yeah. If it wasnt for god, we would still be niggers using only 5 tools and knowing shit about anything.
>Gravity is a theory
But that is beside the point I want to make.
I live in louisiana and it seems like everyone above the age of 30 and below the age of 12 still disbelieves evolution and the Big Bang.
Fundamentalist Christians are not hard to find in the south so don't count them as a small minority.
Jokes on you, more than half of America don't even believe in science.
The very fucking thing that let them vote and watch their reality TV shows and build their fucking churches.
old.news. the catholic cult recognized evolution in the 1950s and then again in the 90s. out of all the christian cults the catholic one has alway been the most progressive wheb it comes to science in recent history.
No, Judaism rejects Jesus Christ as the Messiah (The whole damn point of CHRISTtianity)
And the Catholics only preach hellfire and brimstone, suffer this, suffer that. Basically the opposite of what Jesus said.
> only a very vew fundamentalist Christians still reject the theory of evolution.
just not true. so many people in the US still don't believe it. it's a fucking mystery why people are that stupid.
the catholic church is the original. every other christian church is a spin-off of the original one. so yeah you're a fucking idiot too.
Dont know about Judaism, but since I was raised Catholic I can confirm that they didnt put a lot of effort in scaring the shit out of you.
That would be the New Testament, in opposition to the Old.
not really, no. he thought up an explosion that made all the heavens and earth but it really looked nothing like the modern theory of an expanding universe and a singularity at its origin.
Holy new. Read some fucking news, you ignorant christcunt.
"most of america don't believe in science"
Look at all those retards against science. Poll after poll after poll, all against things that are blatantly true and some still fringe but accepted to be true.
Ain't murrica at all my friend.
I'd fucking kill myself if I was born there. Literally worse than some 3rd world countries.
>Literally worse than some 3rd world countries.
and clearly you're too much of a loser to actually get your shit together to come visit. otherwise you'd know just how wrong you are.
Not that guy, but the NT is only 'scary' in the sense that Catholic and Protestant theologians impose their 'doctrine of Hell' on the scriptures, which makes them read in a threatening manner. Jesus didn't use the term "Hell" because such a term didn't exist, a lot has been written about this online. These hell doctrinists are the ones who lock others out of the Kingdom of God.
I don't need to visit, Americas and the UNs own reports show how much of a shithole it actually is.
I'd sooner go to Canada, which is actually superior in all aspects of standard of living.
While you consumed our culture to make your own culture what it is today.
So, a pissing contest.
>our culture is old hurr
>our culture matters because you use internet to look at american porn durr
The underlying point is that people are dumb and even smart people choose to be dumb. We look for and believe anything that makes us feel good or safe.
It's a useless fight unless you introduce eugenics, by force, and have everyone go through a grueling IQ-aid program from childhood into adulthood.
A sucker is born every minute ffs.
that, tv movies,etc.
i'm just saying you can't simply ignore a bunch of ignorant americans like you can some little village in africa that worships the sun still. it's invasive.
Yup, youre right. Hell was introduced in the NT, along with eternal suffering. While Jesus said that everyone gets to meet the big man.
Being a raised catholic they did talk about how youll dun goof in hell, but they werent really so stingy about it. Just dont kill, rape, cheat or steal and youre good to go, something we can all agree should be prevented.
Dude, you can barely even type a sentence. You can't be any more than your teens.
You'll figure out soon enough how much of a shithole your country is.
Literally all statistics say so.
Your country is a failure. Stay mad that even those funny Canadians are even superior.
ha ha i love when an internet tough guy loses his cool. so easy to see through the petty insults about a typo, using "literally" as if it does anything but make you seem even less believable. ha ha
i'm not religious and i don't believe in a creator, but this kind of does make a little bit of sense. we really don't know exactly how life started (yet). but this seems like it's a very simplified view of it.
Why do people still argue about this? Religion is bullshit anyway. I choose to believe in God my own way and some bullshit way that has to be shoved down my throat. If you believe in God and choose to it the traditional way cool, if you're atheist and say God is a fag that's cool too. I believe he gave us free will and that in the end we all go to heaven to enjoy some kicks parties and love each other. Every. Single. One. Of. Us. Idc if youre athiest, a muslim, a jew, etc. Why give us freewill if he's just going to punish us for it? Believe what you will just don't be an asshole about it there's no reason to.
But its easier to get a few cheap shots when you look at the most retarded of pupolation. Still, you guys could do better I guess, as much as you praise yourself.
What europeians tend to see when someone says culture, is old shit, old biuldings, old paintings, books, stuff like that.
So lets say the declaration of independence would be a good start when mentioning american culture. Or mount Rushmore.
This new age culture is far too deluded to be simply owned by one group because EU and american cultures are so mixed and intertwined thats its basically a team effort, since communication and transportation is EZ.
I agree, there is no currently accepted theory for what happened before the Big Bang, and really, a creator god is jut as viable as any of the quantum bubble postulations.
I'm atheist, but Frankie makes me want to be a Christian again.
Just because he believes it doesn't mean he believes it happened on its own. Scribes that wrote the first testament probably described it as they did instead of this. They probably used day as a period of time instead of how we use it. God created the earth through evolution and the big bang.
i think you're missing my point. you're talking about history. who cares about that for the purposes of this discussion. yes, most of europe (not all) has a longer and more interesting cultural history than the US, by thousands of years. does that make you feel better?
that shit is static. so is mount rushmore.
however america exports a lot of tv and movies and shit that still has an evolving influence on people. so people who don't believe this shit and write books and make shows and movies and shitty informercial type things on the tv and then other countries consume this shit, it has an affect.
you shouldn't disregard a group who has that kind of influence. they shouldn't just be ignored.
yeah, i think i have no problem with a god who, maybe inadvertenly, created the universe and then disappeared. but since there's no way to know what he would actually want from us, it's best to just be an acting atheist and live life as well as you can.
alright, i'm abandoning this thread. no one has yet taken up a contrary position. kind of boring just having an argument abuot US cultural influence and some loser who doesn't have enough money to leave the shithole he lives in - and is too embarrassed to admit to living in.
there's an answer in the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, basically gods last message to its creation is something along the lines of "sorry about the inconveniences, have fun and good luck".
He might need upgrades in his chair, like an hydraulic boxing glove, or a taser, to defer unwanted attention. Also, why isn't he using electrodes monitoring his brain impulses to type?
A star such as our sun cannot create atoms larger than Iron. A large star can form heavier atoms. When a supermassive or massive star goes supernova, it can create very heavy elements.
These elements get dispersed throughout the universe when a star explodes. Without supernovas, we wouldn't exist and nor would our world.
If only it were so easy to explain this shit. Science, and the scientific method, are all based on philosophies that make assumptions that cannot be proven. As those assumptions cannot be proven, everything based on them are equally unproven. This makes everything we know - unproven.
I approach science knowing this - and accepting what science has discovered anyway. (fuck - that's a shit ton like accepting shit on faith)
But that's NOT a defense of religion - religion is 1M times worse.
Which brings me to my own beliefs. I don't "believe in" anything at all. Everything is equally shit; science, religion, logic, philosophy - it's all a fucking cesspool of bullshit. Pick your poison - you're going to wrong no matter what.
you are wrong with your definition of science. science is not to prove right but to falsify existing theories. unless a theory isn't proven wrong it's the best matching explanation of a phenomenon. It's not about "believing" in science but in scientific, reproducable and controllable methods to test theories
Read a fucking book cletus. You seriously look at nature and see animals who were just put here? Put here in an ever changing world. No they fucking adapt, the weak die and the ones most adapted live to spread their superior genetics. If youre really this dumb ill give you something easy. Take a common banana you can find in any grocery store. Thats not an actuql banana, thats a fruit we've manipulated over thousands upon thousands of years of agriculture. Dont like seeds? Plant the ones with less seeds, like larger ones? Plant the seeds of the bigger ones, rinse and repeat until you have the outcome you want. Dont you see anon? If there is a god we figured out his playbook.
it's also not about science equals the truth but only the best explantion so far for phenomenons of the world we can observe. You can explain a thunderstorm by God throwing lightnings, but the explanation of a thunderstorm by electric energy seems to explain more and one can use this theory to build a lightning rod witch is more efficient than praying or offer sacrifice
You both are stupid as fuck. I did not define science at all.
I claim, rightfully, that science and the scientific method are based on unprovable assumptions.
Google "assumptions of science" and just look up the first half dozen links. Then you'll know what the fuck I'm talking about.
Don't waste peoples time by commenting on things about which you have no clue.
Assumptions ? What the fuck are you smoking. First of all what we your credentials for contradicting the entire scientific community
Second if you're "opinion" that the methods we use to observe and provide repeatable evidence of what we deem is part of out natural word are just assumptions leading to more assumptions I'm going to need some citations on that too
Arguing that the scientific method is built around assumptions is really fucking asinine.
I bet you're the kind of person that says "Evolution hasn't been proven, it's just a theory. Just like gravity and relativity"
For all of 4chans pseudo intellectuals there sure are a lot of fucking idiots
If you really study the Bible, you can clearly notice the hidden scientific explanation behind certain verses.
Science is in the Bible. Basically the Bible is just science intertwined with mumbo jumbo poetry.
if you can't prove your assumption in a certain way in s sense that it can be tested and explains something about the worlds phenomena, it's not scientific. if it can be proven wrong by scientific methods it's probably wrong and a new theory can be made. it's called scientific progress. go pray to your gods and "believe" or "believe not" in whatever you want. But I have a hint for you. Your computer doesnt work with miracles but with science
No the assumptions are apart of the equation. Regardless you discover whether or not your assumptions were correct, thats what im getting at. The fallacies of the equation dont reflect on the method, the method stays the same.
Fucking idiot at least read what you preach to others. This is the definition of assumption from the source you gave me.
In science, an auxiliary hypothesis that is taken as true for the purposes of interpreting a particular test. All tests involve making assumptions. If an assumption of a test turns out to be inaccurate, it can cause the test results to be incorrectly interpreted. However, assumptions can be independently tested to help establish their accuracy. To learn more, visit Making assumptions.
No shit you need assumptions in science it's the fucking start of the scientific method.
The Pope and Catholicism in general has been and always will be a joke.
not that guy but there are 2 off the top of my head.
1) how do you know that everything around you isnt just a computer construct?
that would be a major point in determining whether what is testable is truly correct or just a forced action that after a period of time would no longer repeat in that same fashion. they are supposedly testing for this right now to see if we are truly real or just a construct.
2) that the human understanding is correct. because we are lesser dimensional beings we only have the understanding of such dimensions and those effects on the world around us. that is to say that as a higher dimensional plane may/may not be affecting something that is being observed &/ tested which may/may not change at a later period of time negating the original tests conducted.
>mixing the smart and educated Caholics with dirty peasant protestant Americans who wouldn't know a book from a pizza
Go pray to Allah, the Church has accepted evolution and the big bang for years now
how dumb do you atheists feel for only being able to read headlines, and not being able to read articles?
“The Big Bang, which today we hold to be the origin of the world, does not contradict the intervention of the divine creator but, rather, requires it.
“Evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve.”
http://don't need to quote a source because it's from your own source which you were too fucking stupid to read
I've ALWAYS believed that God caused the big bang. I've also ALWAYS believed in evolution, and that God made the Earth with it in mind.
It just makes sense. I mean, even look at human body types over the last couple hundred years. We've changed a fair bit. We adapt to our circumstances. If we live a sedentary lifestyle, we look different than if we're active.
Amazing how stupid /b/ can /b/.
Does ANY OF YOU ever look shit up? Not even when specifically directed to the information?
The process of building scientific knowledge relies on a few basic assumptions that are worth acknowledging...
.There are natural causes for things that happen in the world around us.
.Evidence from the natural world can be used to learn about those causes.
.There is consistency in the causes that operate in the natural world.
These assumptions are important and are not controversial in science today. In fact, they form much of the basis for how we interact with the world and each other everyday.
Fucking berkeley. Yeah, like they don't know what the fuck they're talking about and clearly 'not a part of the scientific community'. /sarcasm
Basic assumptions of science (Nachmias and Nachmias 1996, pp. 5-7))
1. Nature is orderly, i.e., regularity, pattern, and structure. Laws of nature describe order.
2. We can know nature. Individuals are part of nature. Individuals and social exhibit order; may be studied same as nature.
3. All phenomena have natural causes. Scientific explanation of human behavior opposes religious, spiritualistic, and magical explanations.
4. Nothing is self evident. Truth claims must be demonstrated objectively.
5. Knowledge is derived from acquisition of experience. Empirically. Thru senses directly or indirectly.
6. Knowledge is superior to ignorance. (See Sjoberg and Nett previous link)
Would you like me to hold your hand while you read, anon? Do you need me to read it to you? Do you need help with the big words? Must I pre-chew all you food for you too?
if it werent for guilt pyramid schemes catholicism would be fun - "i did some work, now for some enjoyment, is this a church? hey, i want to know more about my bodhi nature, how about developing that a little?" isnt exactly part of the liturgy although
I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.
might feel good it is somehow insane and in dubio pro reo might have been developed by Aristotle in his writings way prior to the founding of the Catholic church.
a) i know how my work should happen
b) i pay taxes and live in a democracy
c) i'm open to suggestments on how i should deal with sweat and other effects of work
this pyramid scheme is, well, dunno.
Another fine assumption science is based upon is that reality exists at all. Nobody has ever proven that reality exists. Not the greatest philosophers, not the greatest scientists, nobody, ever.
And yet, the whole of science is based on the assumption what what we study is real.
Go ahead, geniuses, prove reality is real. Prove that you're smarter than every genius that has ever lived.
I recognize the first one but you mentioned yourself they're testing for it so if all observations were randoms assumptions why waste the time.
I don't quite understand your point but they seem like leaps of logic. I'm not presenting any new ideas or opinions either merely introducing ones deemed as correct by the greater scientific community. If you have a problem with them go take it up with them.
I'm sure they'd love to hear all about it anon, good luck
Boom! Several people ITT just got served.
I read something about them trying to find some loop hole in the real reality by measuring something. But isn't that just completely unnecessary since any test data would simply be a simulation thus there would be no loop hole. I mean if you are trying to measure something in a world that only exists in your mind then you aren't really measuring anything at all.
erhm, this is not news, and OP is a faggot.
In fact the Roman Catholic Church has recognized Darwinian evolution for the past 60 years. It openly rejects Intelligent Design and Young Earth Creationism saying that it "pretends to be science."
Just because some fundamentalist american protestant retards try their best to make all Christians look retarded, doesn't make it so.
reductionism is an approach to research whereby you reduce an entire system to individule parts to study it and extrapolate your findings to model the larger concept. congrats. your arguement is invalid. kill yourself
I'm tired of this stupid thread coming up every hour.
None of this is new or interesting. The Catholic Church hasnt been against evolution or the big bang or any other scientific explanation of creation in at least decades.
Americans are so fucking ignorant.
Ok guys I really need y'all to weigh in on this, are American Christians the only main branch of Christianity that denounce evolution and science? Being a britfag it's rare as fuck to find people like that here.
>Not familiar with Catholic Dogma
