I went over budget ($3k) when originally building so I decided I'd grab a GPU block later on when I upgraded out of my 780. Still sticking by that decision since it's too late now anyways.
>>
>>575190373
Sweet! only thing I'd change is getting an ssd for your OS, doesn't cost much and its alot faster and safer since there's no movable parts.
>>
>>575190478
If its a budget issue you could always buy acrylic plastic and build your own killer cooling system, looks infinitely better and looks amazing, built my old one with acrylic pipes and made my own container, it's not as hard as it seems at first, and it's much more rewarding.. Oh and it costs a lot less
>>

Yeah, always a next time to go bigger and better :). Sort of a transitional thing for me, going from traditional air cooling then to custom tubing and I'd love to get to your current build's status one day; have to agree on it being beyond eye candy.

You only need like 40 GB for Windows. Anything bigger than that is simply based on what you want to use the SSD for.

A common misconception some noobs make is that a SSD will improve the framerate of your games. It will not. A SSD will only improve how fast the game loads, how quick level load etc. FPS is decided by your CPU, GPU, and RAM.

pic not related, just the sexiest computer ive ever seen.
>>
>>575191073
Depends, if you have the option you could always move all your shit, except OS and programs, to an external drive, and just clone it, literally the easiest thing in the world if you get a samsung and use it's cloning tool. connecting ssd with hdd? not sure what you mean, an SSD is a kind of drive, but it doesnt contain discs, and works a lot like the flash memory on your phone. Actually pretty similar to how ram works. You just plug it in like you would a hdd and reap all the benefits :)

SSD is about the size of a laptop HDD but they have super quick read/write speeds in comparison to HDD's.

Just get a 128Gb SSD. It's more than enough space for Windows and essential software that needs to be installed on your C drive. For everything else, install on your regular HDD's.

This.

To expand on why a SSD is better, it has no moving parts. A regular hard drive has a spinning disc and an arm that literally has to move around and read the information on the spinning disc as it passes by. That's why it is important to keep your drive "defragmented". Otherwise the arm has to move around several times just to read a single file. This is very slow.

A SSD is just computer chips, no moving parts. Every piece of data is available essentially instantly. That is why they are so much faster. However, SSDs are expensive compared to the same amount of storage on a HDD. So don't waste a SSD by storing shit like movies on it. It doesn't really matter if your movie starts playing 0.5 seconds quicker after you click on it...

Running windows on your SSD will make your computer feel MUCH faster. Your operating system sill run much smoother and your computer boots and restarts in like 1/4 the time.

There are many different types of RAID setups. Some are purely for speed while others are for data backup redundancy.

However 2 of the best HDDs in RAID 0 (the fastest and least redundant form of RAID, AKA most dangerous for data loss) is still slower than a SSD.

RAID 0 splits the files between the drives with no redundancy so the drives essentially work together to go almost twice as fast.

You can do a system image and there's software to help you transfer them to new builds, but depending on your situation it can be simpler to just do it all from scratch;

What he said, SSD is both faster and more secure then raid, unless you run RAID1 and have a "ghost drive" which means it takes backup all the time of what you're doing so you wont lose your shit if one goes bye bye, that won't help at all for speed though. there's really no reason not to buy a SSD, it's safe as shit too, but if you're worried it will somehow crash, you can always store an image of it somewhere, or back up your shit some other way.

So get a 120 to 140mm adapter. They are only a couple bucks. Numerous tests have proven that on a radiator these perform very well. Static pressure, not CFM, is what matters for radiator performance. So the best 120mm fans on an adapter outperform 140mm fans on a 140mm radiator.

Gentle Typhoons are the best 120mm fans if you want low noise but high performance. Plus the space the adapter adds between the radiator and the fan helps the air get to the area normally obstructed by the center of the fan.

Sorry, I meant I've got 3, might've been a little unclear. I only use 2 most of the time unless im doing some 3d shit where I have some pic to go by on one, zbrush or blender on the other, and sometimes a chill tutorial, cause i'm not that pro. Love my setup, only thing that bothers me is that I can't SLI if i want 3 monitors and TV connected.

looking to in pc pretty soon. Here's a few builds I've been mulling over. please hate or rate, any input helps me.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/dj7dJx
>AMD FX-6350 3.9GHz 6-Core Processor
>MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/TCVHnQ
>Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor
>MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card

strictly for gaming. No plans to do video editing or any other productive stuff.

If you only have 32 bit operating system you can only use 4 gigs. 64 bit is essentially limitless. There is still a limit but you will not hit it...

Other than that it is just how many slots your motherboard has and how much each RAM card has on it.
>>
>>575197305
Ah I get you. I've got a third monitor that I left at home that I use as a glorified mp3 player that I just have spotify or itunes on.
>>
>>575197296

I use Cooler Master fans...they perform as advertised...either way, cheers for the info on the adapter and mentioning Martin's Liquid Lab.

A regular good ol' SCART cable will do, make sure to pull the fourth and sixth pin though.

>>575197264
If that were a real build, PSW would be a no go.

Intel / nVidia combo is best.

64 bit isn't limitless M$ have added artificial limits into the OS

I deleted that post because I realized Im a retard and that was the delta fan I was looking at. Still Gentle typhoons rock. Much more quiet for same airflow.
>>
>>575197939
Yea it usually ends up being something like that, but I got the XFX tri stand back when I got my first rig, and I'd just look like a huge dick if i didnt atleast hang a monitor there

Minimum psu is 500w for that card mate , just upgraded from a gtx 650ti , ill take a fuckin picture if you want.
>>
>>575198087
Which is why I said there is a limit, you just will not hit it...

It is Terabytes of RAM. Many many terabytes.
>>
>>575197947
Antec makes some good parts. Highly underrated.
>>
>>575198434
Don't go cheap on your PSU. Get a decent 600W one. If your PSU bitethe bullet it can literally torch your entire system.

No need to get a 1000W or anything, but please don't go cheap. Get a Seasonic, Corsair, or Enermax. All three of those are top quality brands.

I would but:
1 - Shields my monitors from the hallway (I live in a loft), obvious reasons for that. And,
2 - My room has carpet and I'd rather have it on my desk than on an improvised stand anyway, and fuck the dust that comes from putting it too low of under/inside something (such as part of the desk).

I'll be upgrading to a bigger desk soon anyway so it's k.
