It's the classic NIMBY problem. People aren't particularly against them in theory until you see them on the way to church or to school. There's no "pro bikini" lobby so the "pro family" lobby gets local city and county councils to block them.

You need an investor to start the company or franchise, some girls who are not unattractive who are willing to work there (usually strippers at first it seems), and you have to get it approved by the city/county. It has to be somewhere with enough traffic that it gets business but not so much traffic that too many families complain.

People in Washington seem to not really give a fuck as long as there's certain restrictions, but it seems to be a tough sell other places.

It also helps if you actually have a lot of people who are willing to go to drive-thru coffee stands pretty much every day.

Local councils are a big issue for the business model. Even fast food restaurants have to jump through hoops in certain places, because the people on local councils outside of large cities are usually busy-bodies, wealthy, and have enough time/dedication to the portion of the community they see as the identity of the community to look down on anyone who wants to come in and set up shop.

For a lot of them, they don't give too much of a crap about attracting revenue. If it's a good area ideal for business, then they can afford to be picky, but probably aren't too concerned about taxes anyways. The wealth element matters here also because wealthy people who are pillars of their area generally want to keep low class people out. It's part of why the lower class the area the more alcohol stores etc.

So there's not always a lobby involved at all. Local councils tell businesses to fuck off all the time. It's really smart to get in good with council members as a businessman and get involved in the community for that reason... if you've ever seen local businesses doing just random community stuff, this is why. They show they are a part of the community and not just trashing up the place and they get a more positive audience with the council, bit less hassle on whatever ordinances. It's just good business.

If a Hooter's can't open somewhere then a bikini bar can't, and Hooter's has a lot of trouble opening all over the place. The only exception would be certain parts of certain big cities, with very strict rules, very very DGAF crime-free liberal areas which are few and far between, and trashy strip-club areas.

Starbucks regular coffee isn't that great though. You can make better coffee cheaper at home and spend all that extra money on a great coffee machine or whatever you want. That's the point with people who go to coffee shops... they're just buying the Starbucks brand logo because they incorrectly equate it with good coffee. But trust me, brand effect works even better when you're drinking the real good stuff, freshly ground beans at home, and you'll pay less anyways.

I've been to plenty of good coffee shops, with good atmospheres, seating, services, community, AND great coffee with new bean selections often. However Starbucks is not that. You're better off just going to a drive-through budget coffee place than Starbucks, because it's basically the same quality coffee anyways.

I'm not an idiot. This morning I ground some Peets Coffee Sumatra Dark Roast whole beans rather coarse and put that in my french press for my cup. That kind of coffee is obviously preferred.
