are there any oldfags lurking around?
if you look at /b/ now, how has it changed over the years?
was it always full of YLYL, trap and deviantart-porn threads? what happened?
The quantity of trap / trans / gay / etc has increased a ton as the years have gone by. True facts.
YLYL shit has been shit shitting up the shits always.
This. Been here since 2006 and I don't really like calling myself an oldfag. But I do quite miss the way this site used to be. Now it's mostly cancer.

/b/ was never good. Maybe there was a sense of excitement because there was nothing on the internet quite like it and that one time it was culturally relevant for like a month- but it was never good
>any oldfags lurking
They left a long fucking time ago
d00d ur IDs beharzo7
what u mean by good? you dont mean morals right (pls dont)
After all these years /b/ really changed. Seeing YLYL these days and /b/ in general, I prefer the virus/raid with all the coloured squares. Still lurk /b/ because of the lolz from time to
Not really an oldfag but I've been here long enough to notice some changes.
>YLYL threads have been here for the longest
>trap threads were not appearing as often as today, though they were occasional
>deviantart-porn has been around for awhile
>loli threads have had exponential rate of growth since they first appeared up to now
>a lot more porn now than there was before
>OC was more common, though not by much.
>raids were much more common back then than now
Pretty much what I can think of. I really don't care though, I came here mostly to fap anyways.
>>raids were much more common back then than now
I wish this would come back more. Now it's just "LOL CALL THIS NUMBER GUYIZ" or some burthurt sexually disfunctional autist trying to get us to facebook his underage crush.
>/b/ was never good. Maybe there was a sense of excitement because there was nothing on the internet quite like it
Pretty much this. This place also used to feel kind of isolated and unique, but now there are so many other sites that have the same content cycling through them.
2006 reporting in.
There is a lot more porn than there used to be. You used to scroll the first page and maybe see one porn thread, sometimes two. Traps and lolis were always a thing but I think it's more common now. People used to actually talk a lot more... share crazy stories and whatever.
I think the memes were funnier back then just because they were new.
>been here from late 2009 early 2010
well, it is still shit
even shittier, but non the less , still shit
It has its moments of lulz, I won't lie, but most of the times (about >94% of the time) is shitposting and trolling
Yes, much more conversation was had.
YLYL used to have more original content, meaning stuff that originated here on 4Chan and not another site or image board. There weren't all these "epic lulz" sites floating around with shitty secondhand content that makes its way over to Facebook and the like. Also, social media wasn't as big a thing back then. We had Myspace, and AIM, and that's about it. Neither of those were massive content generators and sharers the way Facebook is.
To be honest the most significant decrease I've seen on /b/ in my time were raid threads. I guess I joined /b/ when raids were the hype but it's gotten old I suppose. Cringe and loli threads have basically taken over.
There were general discussion threads, I still see some today. Feels, events, "what would you do", etc.
To be honest I feel /b/ tends to go through different phases and we're currently on one I don't enjoy very much i.e traps, CP, loli, furries. But I think soon enough something else will come along and throw that shit to the curb. Hopefully.
This + less CP
Honestly I know I'm a cancerous faggot for saying this but I kinda miss the raids. I used to be everyone's personal army because I had fuck all else to do. Now those threads when they do pop up get squashed pretty quickly.
Probably for the better anyway. I'm too fucking old to be trolling underage attention whores.
Gore is still here. You just have to look a little harder to find it now, although I don't think it was ever terribly common back in the day. Usually somebody would post a gore thread and it was just keep getting bumped and stick around the front page for quite some time. But I don't think we ever had several threads at once on it, like we do porn these days.
Also, pic somewhat related to the topic.
what about the roll-thing, I guess the smartphone chat get me laid threads werent around, so what were people rolling for mostly?
and about colored blocks, wasnt samefagging fucking annoying?
YLYL used to be funny, though. And I'm talking only as far back as 2011. That was the year that I discovered /b/ and I come back once in a while only to find the most cringeworthy shit here now. I frequent other sites and once in a while come back here in the hope that it's a good day. It's never a good day.
Oh, and in my opinion, most cancerous threads on /b/ today are "faces of /b/ thread".
Shit boils my blood.
A lot more bawww, creepypasta, gore, fap, and raid threads, and in general just way more single-subject threads, discussing whatever.
YLYL has always been around, as with the cringe and feminist hate threads, though there were fewer of the last two.
Traps/sissy, "rate me," cuckold, and "faces of /b/" threads are pretty recent, and killing everything... the point was to be a bunch of anonymous assholes laughing about fucked up shit and masturbating, not for this to be another fucking social media site.
But no, /b/ was never good.
Roll-threads I think came in around 2010-ish, though maybe a year earlier or later. They started with the typical "xx tells me what to do" BS and I think there were a lot of rolling for gets threads.
Either way, retarded shit.
Creating /soc/ helped but didn't quite cure the cancer.
There we go. All these retards that add fag to everything was the begining of cancer. Ive lurked since 07 and have posted less than 10 times. 6 of which was to bash a muslim. The kids that buy the masks are the true cancer. And anyone under 20 years old.
i think the conversation is on other boars today
Agree on "faces of /b/" killing /b/.
The whole point of being anonymous is that no one knows who you are. I don't want you to know who I am, and I don't care who you are.
I also think social media has been steadily ruining /b/ since Facebook became such a big thing. Then we got Snapchat and now Kik and I'm sure it will continue. All the narcissism of social media has slowly seeped onto /b/, and it feels like the influx of pretty hipster kids with big egos is what's really crushing this place.
>Used to have more YLYL.
>Used to have a lot more You Love, You Lose.
>There weren't as many traps, so nowhere close to as many trap threads.
>Vaguely less DArt furry porn.
>More memes, before other sites came in and made everyone want nothing to do with them.
>Few, if any, twitter or facebook pictures.
>More camwhores. They all moved to /soc/.
>NYPA every thread where someone was asked to start a raid.
>More content from other chans.
>Know when that spammer floods good porn threads with CP? Used to happen in a bunch of other threads by a few spammers instead of one.
>People didn't abuse green text like I'm doing now, because that's what it's devolved into.
>Sage worked for like a week or something.
>No feminist hate threads, because third-wave shithead "feminists" are actually a new trend.
>Only threads fighting Boxxy for queen were spammed with m00t.
>Ton more anti-religion threads with pic related.
Found this place via 7chan in early '07 so I suppose that sort of makes me an oldfag. Very rarely come here anymore.
/b/ used to be funnier I think, although all in all it's about the same really.
The best thing /b/ did imo was the SOHH raid. Anyone remember that?

It wasn't nice because of OC, it was because nobody acted like a total fucktard who just blew in from Facebook like they do now.
If you want a look at what old /b/ was like then you can check out /s4s/. All old /b/ was was people posting mindless shit because they had no idea what to do.
fuck man. i have seen shit like this before and it pisses me off.
>/b used to be filled with fucked up shit
>/b's terms, vocab, and methodology used to be unique and damn near impossible for an outsider to learn
>/b used to be so fucked that no one dared mention it because they didn't want to be associated with this site
>anyone claiming name, gender, race, religion, ect was found and their life ruined
>invasions everywhere, not shit ones like today but the kind that shut down servers
>whiteknighting was not a bad thing atleast against those who oppose equality.
>lurking, is all you did unless you had something important and UNIQUE to say. no need for hundreds of anon to say what anon already knows
post 2008 b/ has been shit
lurking since 2004
back in 2004 no cancer
/b/ still moved fast but you occasionally got some good conversations and good threads going. These days there's not much good on /b/; on any given day you can come here and expect to pretty much see the same threads repeated with a few occasional variations.
It used to be you could just go in a thread, post an image reply that didn't have jackshit to do with a goddamn thing, and no one gave it a second thought. It was like a schizophrenic echo chamber. Now everything is feels, cancer, goddamn stupid insipid shit, and doubles. Absolutely sickening.
Wanna know why /b/ is shit now? It's not BECAUSE of the content or the newfags or the furries. It's because one man left.
>pic VERY FUCKING RELATED
Well, there's this big convo between him and moot. He was the biggest dick known to humanity. He respected no one. Even moot. He used to ban shitposters and keep the CP thread alive. He was the reason /b/ wasn't shit.
/b/ has always had summerfags and newfags and overused crap. He just filtered that all out.
let me tell you a story about everything you could possibly learn from us will be distorted with rose-tinted nostalgia glasses; google encyclopediadramatica and lurk there for all the information. It's 4chan history ezmode last I checked.
/b/ basically turned into porn around 2012
There ceased to be an actual content well before then but it at least proved to be interesting
now it's nothing but porn
Even the tripfag circlejerks don't exist any more
been lurking since 08
there was a collective feeling that 2009 was the beginning of cancer with "memes" coming into popularity (troll face/rage guy, all that shit)
ever since then there's been a split in the population between people who believe the whole "asshole of the internet" thing and participate in raids etc, and the people who denounce that as edgy, cancerous and rule breaking
i was always here for the community aspect tbh, which intensifies on other boards imo
There used to be a -lot- more cheese pizza and a lot less gay shit. Anons posted stuff to shock and dismay the normalfags
But the gayfags arrived and decided the trash dump the internet needed cleaned up to be safe fot the kiddies.
My first experience with /b/ evar
>17 or so in 05
>Bunch of friends show me a pornsite
>Wow, this shit is amazing
>Type in site URL
>"Where the fuck is the porn!"
>Click on /v/
>"No, this isn't porn"
>Click on /b/
>Hit the holy grail
>Beat my meat for a good 12 minutes
>Read something about sys32
>Have shit internet connection
>Take the bait
>Brick my computer
So, any first times anybody?
/b/ was for original content - quirky, inventive, creative, silly. stupid, but at the same time intelligent humour. there were practical jokes and pranks but people had boundaries.
people were more about making others laugh or think than they were about validating themselves.
trap threads didn't come along until linetrap. after that it took maybe a year and a half to become a full on infestation.
now I'd say there's about 10% of the oc despite the huge boom in visitors. the focus is generally either on doing shitty things to people and "ruining lives!! 4 lulz!!" or rating each others cocks. there were no cock rate threads in 2005. there weren't as many jailbait or sex threads in general. a small amount of cp was posted which did amount to more than i see these days, but that's because failmod snacks let it fly and even condoned it and he and moot were practically the only janitors. most of the girls posted were a few clothed changirls who are now part of 4chan legend.
the point at which it became shitty was when every 14 year aspie old on myspace heard about a few silly pranks from here and started browsing, posting and reciting the rules as though they were deathly serious. hurr durr anonymous is a cruel uncaring monster i am an underground hacker on steroids.
after the influx of faggy kids came cock craving closet homos who just want to rate dicks all day but are somehow straight. then the stormfront tosspots who took people saying "lol nigger" to each other as some sort of sign that they were welcome and promptly started to post about niggers being dumber than whites and "the more you know" crap all day long.
creativity went entirely out of the window in place of little kids arguing, hatred, racism and every one of those dickheads saying "newfag newfag old /b/ was so much better and more evil / racist / gay / whatever the fuck, old /b/ would have ruined x and x's life, old /b/ would have killed kittens, blah blah bullshit"
and that's where we are today
rules and policies have always been changing its nothing new, moot has hated /b, then not hated, and then hated again
>id's on - off over and over
>forced anon on - off over and over
>captia on - off a couple times
>post limit times on - off (for a few weeks it was 30min minumum between posts)
>dubs, trips on - off
>hell even /b on - off
pretty much this.
I visited /gif first then migrated over to /b out of boredom.
only really post in discussion threads. less than 100 total posts since i have been here.
been lurking since '06 '07 maybe earlier.
around that time i found out one of my coworkers was also aware of /b/
back then it was not something you would want to admit to a colleague. we actually had to keep dropping hints/inside jokes to "feel each other out"
there was and still a collective sense of "cringe" at the concept due to the fact that /b/ is a small website inhabited by lonely nerds saying things like "we are legion" and "/b/tards assemble"
most people still here are only here because they have nowhere else to go
i almost deleted sys 32, i even told mom that it might make the computer faster, i'm happy i lurked before i did it, i feel stupid for bringing up any shit from 4chan irl, but that especially
My nigga.... so true. I lurked from 2004 for a couple years before I had something original. I think folks just don't get how message boards work. Reminds me of the old BBS days - more exclusive and you learned and earned the right to post.
>found /b in 2004 from a shit poster on Gaia
>I was a gaiafag, hated by /b for posting coppying shit from /b and posting it to gaia.
>but fuck I was 13 almost 14 and no one could stop me "internet badassery"
>someone logged into my account and stole all my shit, and got me banned. Threats were sent to my email, shut my ass up real quick
>wanted to know how to be that bad ass so I lurked on /b
what do you mean by good?
from what I read here /b/ seems to have changed to more shitposting rather than OC, which most of anons consider "worse"
>/b/ was for original content - quirky, inventive, creative, silly. stupid, but at the same time intelligent humour
Back in my day, we called furries a bunch of faggots and chased them off. Now /b/ is a bunch of furry loving pussies.
this is the difference between now, and then.
there is and always will be new kids on /b, but I learned that if I wanted to stay on /b I had to learn how to /b
>kids all over b with no consequences
>people wearing masks, and anon symbols all over social media no consequences
>news coverage, no consequences
>fuck how many facebook pages are there with /b in the name, no consequences
I exclusively browsed 4chan from 2k6 to 2k11.
It was much better.
Now, I only check out 4chan for a total of like 1 hour a week.
Its just much shittier. As much as people here like to pretend it isnt, this place is mostly dominated by the thoughts of 16-20 year olds. That shit gets old as you get older. On top of it, this place has changed. "epic" threads back then were more frequent. There were more raids. Less "rolling" bullshit. Less trap/furfag. About the same amount of trolling.
Honestly, reddit is just fucking better than this site. Not that reddit doesn't have huge problems, but, in general, there is more old /b/ to be found there than here.
>quit until 2009
>been browsing since
This site was nearly as shit as it was. Now it's just those shitty Chikuns, the threads where you roll to say something random to a gurl, feel threads, and USA VS Europe threads, and music threads. Of course we also have the GFur/SFur/HFur, Loli, shota, and other kinds of fucked up shit threads. Literally the same shit everyday and I have no idea why the fuck I come back.
demographic change from educated underachievers to uneducated underachievers.
board changed from mentally stimulating to visually stimulating topics.
cultured became diluted and more accessible
Traps were hated by everyone and if there were traps it would be followed by ITS A TRAP meme
We always said /b/ was never good, but it was actually good compared to now
All the CP threads lasted at least 15 minutes and there were no white knights
Gore threads were as common as porn threads practically
/b/ wasn't all porn
Memes were created on a regular basis
Good raids on chat rooms and other sites since not many people knew about 4chan, or the concept of trolling. Trolling actually worked since people didn't know what you were doing.
>Anonymous was actually good back then
>OC was pretty common
>We got to ruin lives
>no MLP yet
>not that many women to be honest
>not that many religious tards
>tumblr wasn't a thing yet
>moot interacted with us
I will have to think about more. 2004-2007 was the peak years.
>I wonder if itll ever go back?
>I mean eventually the newfags will get bored and leave, but us, we're here forever.
Every generation's relevance is as fleeting as the seconds that tick away. 4Chan marches on. The beast must feed.
I feel like in a way, it used to have a corner on internet culture, but things changed. All the good shit dispersed out to new realms like facebook and twitter, the meme went mainstream, and all that really remained of 4chan was dicks and stale-ass pasta in an endless summer.
We watched the wild west of the internet come and go. And now I still stop in for a bit to remember why there's no point to.
YLYL threads are nothing new, though the quality of said threads has gone down. There hasn't been anyone making OC for some time now. Trapfags need to go back to their own board, no idea why they flock here. I know we are all fags here, but there are other boards specifically for literal faggotry.
>there were no whiteknights
wut? there have always been whiteknights.
There were more unique threads back in the day. People actually bothered to make threads that weren't the same shit over and over again (YLYL, porn, etc.). Also more gore.
I really miss gore.
I've been here since mid-2007.
/b/ has definetaly changed since it became "mainstream" and le maymays became mainstream.
back then it was all about the rules, barrel rolls, chips handon and losing the game.
there were threads like this, for sure, but perhaps less frequently.
i feel like a little child listening to your stories
what are you guys saying? the /b/ i remember had more copy pasta. had whiteknights though few. There was always that one faggot in a CP thread (usually me). there was always that one faggot in a gore thread. There was always that one faggot in a raid. always that one faggot who whiteknighted for an attention whore. though the attention whores were less with less tits about the place. only difference is that that one faggot has multiplied. effects of summer over the years. also /b/ was filled with more anime and porn. reason rules were made about porn threads. way too much
oh my god thats right, i forgot we threatened to "hack" people's accounts.
> tfw that raid was 8 years ago
I've been around off and on since late 2005.
OC has been declining steadily. Especially on /b/.
One of the (relatively) recent highlights for me
was the whole Jimmie Russels thing. Nobody
really seems to be able to pull that kind of
stuff off anymore.
We were watching that stuff unfold for hours
and many laughs were had.
>mfw people worship some whore named boxxy and have forgotten Zunechan
You can have your fat ADHD cum guzzler, I'll take ZC any day.
Loli threads have been here ever since the loli board was taken down in late '04. It hasn't really increased, besides the threads capping much faster because more people posting.
Been here since about 05.
Come here maybe once a fortnight, if that really.
The site was always a piece of shit but it was funny as fuck.
Oldfag/Newfag was designed to piss people off and the whole "hurr durr" shit got pretty fucking bad hence why I don't really come here often.
Other than that it's pretty much the same.
Trans/phaggot threads have increased a shit ton as well.
/b/ used to be a place where deviant people could express their inner "fucked up" opinions. /b/ could laugh at a suicide. Tumblr, Reddit, 9GAG, they're all just /b/'s slowly fragmenting personality. A side effect of the cancer that eventually kills everything.
Your definition of fugly must be off
oh and another thing I never see this guy anymore (pic related)
been here since like 2mget. it's gotten a lot shittier in some ways but that's just because as a site gets more populated and as the internet gets bigger more types of people are going to come on here. i have my old 40gb hdd at my house, i might dump shots of old threads if i can find it when i get home
