There is nothing desirable about OS RS if you played what OS RS is trying to emulate. You can't capture a point of time by simply resetting the graphics and throwing people in. I've only been playing again for like 2 weeks, when i started again i had an account, level 40ish only had full rune and like 200k, and general other shit like runes range equipment etc. average stats. I've now got 3m Cash and like 6 mil in items, got full sara, zammy and guthix, got like 2k yews saved up and level 74 woodcutting. made atleast a mil from grinding yews, i afk and watch movies and tv whilt i cut yews. so easy to make cash these days.

Every update the dev team considers goes through an open-poll for the community to vote on and must have overwhelming majority to pass. the updates have consistently improved the game and provided incentive to stay with it. Okay, word, now I know you know what you're talking about. The thing is I don't think anyone is trying to capture every aspect of the 2007 version of the game. The economy is the least of concern to a typical OSRS player. There was recently a straw poll that showed that a majority of OSRS players are 20+ YO males who have played Runescape 5+ years.. This is just the version of the game I know best, feel most comfortable, and have the most fun playing.

My stance is that it's not better. I'm not saying EoC is better, because I just simply enjoy it to the same degree I did as I've played it throughout my life, but for it to be such a widespread opinion that 07 RS is inherently better bugs me, because 90% of the people that say that have no idea what the fuck they're talking about.

Familiarity is desirable, yes; however, there's nothing wrong with the way that the game is progressing currently except for the community raging every time it trys to progress.

There was nothing wrong with the graphics update of RS3. It didn't change EoC, it didn't detract anything from it. It simply updated the graphics to make it look like a better game and people bitched about the UI changes until they gave an option to have a completely old school UI and now people bitch about legacy's effectiveness.

This game has progressed a shit ton since it first came out and only now is it running into a solid wall of people just screaming that it go back to how it used to be. This is because too many people grew up on this game and can't shake their nostalgia.

Runescape is making more money than it ever has. They're not doing anything wrong. RS3 is fine.

This is what I always told people who asked me if I played OS when I still played RS (stopped about a year ago, after updates and new system over whelmed my relatively functional laptop AND pc. Making it unplayable).

I do think that with a smaller community it is easier for a single individual to change the development plan of the game. RS3 has teams working on updates months ahead of time, without player consent. You must agree that it a unique thing that developers poll almost every change to the game. OS RS has been dying slowly ever since launch. It had a surge over the summer because it was the summer, but now that it's dying down even the people in OS RS are noticing it. The servers are dying. They even made the servers f2p because so few people that paid for the game wanted to play the game that they've already played/or didn't see the regression of graphics, combat system, skills, quests, etc etc as desirable.

That's a fairly understandable stance, because why play Skyrim over and over again on an xbox with dlc when you can play it on the computer where holy shit updates/new quests being made all the time.

If you're talking finances, they reason they're much more successful is because they're marketing to their demographic. They're not relying on subscription fees wholly anymore, they have microtransactions and vanity items that people want to buy if they value the game.

While bots are a factor in EoC for a few skills, there are simply some skills that you cannot bot and the community that matters (the people with the money) know that who is legit and who isn't.

Botting will only get you so far for so long and that's provided if you even get that far before you get banned.

I can't speak from experience because I can only stomach os rs infrequently and in 2-4 day bursts at a time, but there are very very very few actual old school players on OS rs and an abundance of players that have simply funneled money into accounts on an obsolete game.

There hasn't been any evidence only opinions. I've played both, 2001-2007 what you're trying to play, OSRS and EoC.

I've just been arguing with people that are of differing opinions and telling them facts about the game. Very few of the things that i've said can be disputed and what could have has yet to be citable.

I don't monitor OSRS religiously, so I could be wrong, as the person said when he insinuated that it wasn't declining, but I believe he's wrong because from what I've seen/heard/played he clearly is.

If you guys liked Runescape, you might enjoy Eve Online. I know it doesn't sound like the same game, but Eve actually has the same sorts of user-generated PVP content that Runescape used to have, and it's even more chaotic than Runescape used to be. In addition, CCP is overall a way better company than Jagex, although it did go through a dark period a few years ago.

There are a lot of old hardcore RS players playing Eve. Let me know if you want a trial invite (I'll pay you 90% of the benefit I receive from it, usually people pay 50-75%) since you'll get extra days.

Of course, if you don't want to help me out, just sign up for a trial yourself - you won't get the starting ISK, but I'd rather just see RS players come to Eve.

I feel you. ~400 days logged, 3/4 are botted though. Like 20 99's. ~900m bank. I try playing again now and then cause I stopped in 2012 with the EOC, but theres nothing to do now. If it weren't for EoC, we wouldn't even need an OSRS. The community wouldn't be so divided and everyone would be playing the one and only Runescape. Nowadays it's all about the OSRS vs EoC rivalry.

I started back in 2004. I played the game in its golden years. Nothing can ever bring those years back -- not even OSRS -- because the world and the players have just changed too much for that to be possible. OSRS can never be a perfect emulation of pre-2008 Runescape. And sure, it has worse graphics, less skills, less quests, etc. but it is free of much of the crap EoC is full of -- microtransactions, G.E., easymode skills, fucked up prices, etc.

If Jagex had never introduced the series of "updates" from 2008-2012 (culminating with EoC), the old veterans would have never quit. The community would have never split. EoC is the entire reason we have a divided community, many lost years of progress, and a less-than-perfect emulation (OSRS) which wouldn't even be necessary if there was no EoC in the first place.

Christ, the Gower brothers don't even work at Jagex anymore. Their original vision has been completely corrupted.

Me too, so many good memories. I used to play with this one guy for years and one day, my account got permanently muted for saying fucking tip.it of all things.

At this point, I was ready to quit when my friend suggested we just account shared since he couldnt play as much as before. This went on for about 3 years, we made a fuck load of money and each did separate stuff. Not hard at all. There;s dedicated forums just for hacking runescape accounts. Theres tons of templates out there that have every image on every runescape page, so all you do is copy and paste a few lines of code into a free hosting site and you're good to go.

Well, before the only security on runescape accounts was passwords and recovery questions. Then jagex added the jagex account guardian, which has 6 questions you set to answer. Any time you try logging into a new computer, it sends you an email. You then have to access that email, go to the link in the email, answer the 6 questions, and then set how much time you want the computer to be able to access your account for.

So basically, with JAG, you cant do shit unless you get their email too which is a felony.

Then they replaced that recently with some qr code bullshit that you cant bypass either.

tl;dr keylogging and phising is dead. Now you'd need to get some tard on skype and grab his IP and boot him during pvp, or just have access to a friends account and be a dick and steal their shit.

I lost 285m in total staking on OSRS, I still love the game but I'm just too upset about the losses to continue, lost literally 7 stakes in a row on 50/50 odds exactly. Flipped a coin 7 times, same side every time, makes sense right?
Anyway, every time I see these threads it just depresses me... Still have 20m left but I simply cannot be fucked too try again.
