But also know: most mail centers are supposed to get your identification to open a mailbox. Most mail centers are run by people that don't know how to verify an identification document. Call around and say you're a "student" that doesn't have (local ID papers), will your student ID suffice? If you find one that says yes, perfect, because getting/making a fake student ID is ridiculously easy.

The best thing to do is to immediately pick up the package. But say it's a cheque: don't cash it for ~1-2 months. Your averages to remember:

~3 days - an employee won't remember you
~7 days - security camera footage gets overwritten (esp. if they are still using daily tapes (almost everyone is!))
~30 days - any cover database entry is deleted.
