THe ocean is actually pretty terrifying.
Even with proper quipment, you are still completely deaf, your vision is reduced and your movements are extremely sluggish.
And just the sheer size of some ocean creatures is shocking. Most people don't realize how big they are because in television they are often shown without perspective, but they are enormous.
I think it's this combination of your own helplessness coudpled with these giant things that makes the ocean so scary.

I don't even know if this is a thing, but I do know what IS a thing, the brain-eating amoeba that enters through your nose. It comes from fresh water rather than the ocean, and once it gets in it slowly eats your brain until you die. There is no known way to stop or kill it.

This is true. However, while there have been no deaths during EVA, there still has been an incident which occurred technically in space during re-entry which killed a few cosmonauts.

Regardless, there's still a lot of shit which can kill you. Plus, help is quite a bit less likely when you're in orbit as opposed to being in the ocean...

When i was in Spain me and a few m8s swam out into the sea, to the furthest buoy. Pretty easy swim until we had to swim back, it was two or three times harder to swim back to shore. Anyways when we got to dry land news came in from a beach a mile up the road, there were reports of sharks!! Just one mile from where we were swimming. I'm not sure how fast a shark could do one mile but i bet it was a lot faster than it took me to swim back to shore, im just glad non of us had any cuts. I heard sharks can smell even the smallest drop of blood. I'm scarred thinking about it. Havent been swimming since.
>>
>>559970762
its not really looped. there's an "Ending" to it and different shit happens throughout.

I remember when I was 12, my first ocean scuba dive. It was supposed to be a 40 feet deep reef. Turns out, the reef we were going to was actually 80 feet deep. I shat bricks when I jumped in, looked down, and didn't see the bottom. There was a point during our descent where I couldn't see the surface or the bottom. It was like floating in a void space. Shit was scary. It was beautiful at the bottom, though. If 12 year old me can grow the balls to face the ocean, you neckbeards can. It's definitely mind over matter.
>>
No you complete faggot.

Probably the scariest part of suba diving is the fact that, in extremely deep water, if things go wrong, the oxygen and pressure difference can cause you to go insane. This means that while you might have an easy way to save yourself, your brain fails to work and you end up confused enough to forget where you are.

Its not scary shit, you just scroll up non stop until your balls are busted. I was scrolling up for 4 minutes and then i got tired and drowned. so i assume that if you are an extremely persistent faggot you can survive for a long time. Though i think i read somewhere that you have something like half an hour before you freeze to death.

A few weeks ago I went diving in Key Largo, Florida. I got pretty lightheaded and started getting blurred vision. It scared the shit out of me. Best way to not panic is to avoid the following
1, looking far off into the horizon
2. looking down
best way to not die is to take short, light breast strokes, take breaks by floating on an arched back.

Nah. I grew up going on boats every weeked, learned how to surf/fish/swim amazingly when I was really little. Dad taught my all about respecting the ocean and whatnot and not being an idiot about stuff. Not to forget you're basically always within 100 feet of a shark or something, as long as you stay wise you're fine.

The only fear i have are great white sharks. They are the scariest looking bitches on the planet. They know they cant fuck you up and they will if they are really hungry. If they dont kill you, they will cut you the fuck up when they attack and give you some nasty scars. The worst part of all is you can never really see one until its too close for comfort and you cant really defend yourself. I would honestly shit myself if i went underwater to see one of these circling around me. Nothing to fuck around with

Man, sharks are scary. Plain and simple. Those dead eyes and even their skin is covered in teeth.
I couldn't imagine being in the water and having 500 million years of streamlined evolution coming right for me.
>>
>>559980334
Great whites rarely eat people. usually its one bite, but thats all it takes to fuck up your day. Also if you hit their eyes, nose or gills they bugger off.
>>
>>559965179
Only if I have to swim in it.

The moment I can't touch bottom I fucking freak.

This one time at the beach it was low tide and I walked out as far as I could. I'm 6'6" so I can go real far out. I got to the point where I was on my tip toes craning my neck, and all of a sudden a huge school of tiny fish came barreling at me, and began circling me. It was pretty awesome, but I failed to realize why...

They were running from several striper bass, all about 7-8ft long. They came straight at me, after the fish. One of them collided with me and knocked the wind straight out of me. It was so strong.

I screamed like a girl once I got my breath back and I couldn't get to shore fast enough.
>>
>>559980683
I just added that in for irony. I agree, sharks are intimidating, if I was in the water with any kind of shark my size or larger, and not being a breed that I can identify, or worse, a breed such as the tiger shark I can identify as dangerous, I would shit myself. Best thing to do is ignore it and don't make any sudden movements. If you're unlucky enough for it to attack, hit it in the nose.

>>

Well it's probably safe to say that we all KNOW to puch a shark in the shnozz, but I doubt many of us could keep our composure to do so.

Also, last I checked no one had ever documented Great Whites mating. Which is to say, that for all we know they could just manifest themselves onto our plane from their deep sea hell realm.

It is not the threat of seeing sharks and monsters and squids and cthulus.

No the real fear in the ocean comes from its nothingness and barren void.

Imagine if you will your boat goes down and you survive. You are on a small piece of wood that remains afloat until it becomes waterlogged.

Underneath you there is nothing, no sharks, no playful dolphins, no sea turtles, nothing. You are so far out that the only thing that surrounds you is dark nothingness, a devoid of life for miles and miles and miles.

You look under the water and although blurry you just see the water until it fades into blackness in either direction. You are completely alone and there is not even ocean creatures to break the melancholy.

There is nothing.

/b/ has made me question the ocean, but fuck the unknown is amazing. Unexplored land, imagine all the shit, like here if i wanted to go down the road and explore a mountain, there'd be fucking maps and the last guys skittle packet, the ocean and space is beautiful. Untouched land, I'd love to have a tiny but fast as fuck submarine and ocean suit where I could explore the ocean, even alone. Itd be less scary than walking a dark alley in the favelas cause you know humans kill each other, in the ocean sure a shark or whale could kill you, but we aren't their natural prey.

It's just amazing, like untouched beauty. I'd love to see huge sea creatures too, little ones. Assuming I wouldn't get raped from one though, it'd be awesome to be a passive observer. Magic.

Me and my friends parked up at the docks once on a winter night, which is built on reclaimed land, so the docks/wharf is huge where the water underneath is like fairly deep and dark pacific ocean type shit. A storm was due in the next day (which eventually came) and it was windy as fuck that night (like midnight) no one was around, and the water was fucking rough. Like NOPE.jpg type rough. We were all running around half scared/excited like chimps, it was amazing.

I sometimes get dreams about very very very rough water, and surfing huge ass waves (never surfed in my life) very dark water. I read somewhere that when you dream about water it represents your emotions, like rough water means you're unsettled/anxious about somthing, calm nice smooth water and you're currently happy..etc.

Anyways one day she was swimming and went under for a bit and saw a shadow above her, thinking it was a boat she went deeper and kept swimming. She looked up after what she thinks was about 10 metres and saw it was a giant manta ray/sting ray thingy.

i think it's just the fact that it's cold. try running cold water over your head in the shower and close your eyes and breathe slowly. you'll imagine you are in the ocean and become uncomfortable.

I know a lot of people who are shit scared of the ocean and I just don't get it
Oceans are vast but I don't see how they're piss-yourself scary
Also sharks. Sent a friend a funny picture of a shark and he started telling me how I shouldn't send shark pictures to him without warning since he dropped his tablet out of fear.
I just don't get it
