But why? I know I love the movie and the style of it but I can't really put my finger on why I downright love this movie. I've never watched a movie that I think was more complete as a movie. I've read books that were probably better could they be compared but I can't recall a movie that I though was genuinely better but I'm not sure why

Now, I sort of liked this film because for me it's all about the atmosphere and visuals, but this was an objectively awful movie. It had no story, no substance, horribly vapid characters, and it tried really hard to be symbolic in retarded and obvious ways.

The visuals are what saved this movie from a 10% approval. It's proof that winding-refn is good when he's using someone elses story, but he really shouldnt be in film, he should be directing music videos and ads like Johnathan Glazer.

This is about as unique as they come.

Takes a lot of patience to watch though, if you like arthouse films then this is the mothership, though most believe it tries too hard.

It's a movie to watch high. The concept that if death is not the end it may be quite ineffable and not resemble the life you left behind I found quite disturbing and trippy. Watch this movie high at your own risk, and watch it on acid if you want an existential nightmare.

I showed someone the American version before the original to see how they reacted.

After watching both this person claimed the American version was better because the scene in the original where Oh Dae-su was groveling and acting like a dog to appease the villain was too ridiculous.

They also said the ending to the American version was better. I didn't really know how to react.
