I've had the same situation, except I turned my ending of the relationship into an evaluation of my choices in people. Turns out I wasn't very emotionally connected or attached to many of my friends, ended up cutting down my social circle down to 2 friends and my girlfriend. First of all, my life has been a long and wild roller coaster, and it is every event in my life that defines me as me.

Neutral Milk Hotel, The Microphones, The Drums all of these indie hipster band, I had found what I was looking for. When people heard my name, they thought about bad music, saw playing and trombone. I saw similair things in friends who followed budhism, islam and other things that become a religion like eating habits, scene and musical tastes.
