Back then, being an oldfag was simply a difference of how much time you'd spent here. Now their are more complications to it. Now it's a combination of that and understanding the difference between now and then.

The things that gave /b/ its reputation have largely vanished or changed.

It's gathered plenty of media attention. And their has never been an entry requirement besides age, which obviously isn't obeyed. So now we've been flooded by copycats, desperate catchups and people who are normal but think they're not.

Spamming umad, jelly, newfag and other "swag" stuff is watered down to the point that it's meaningless. They spout it like they are legion. Kids wear guy fawkes masks but have never been to a protest in their lives. They wouldn't even relate it to epic fail guy. They enjoy seeing mischief but they'll only go as far as observing it unless it's a half-hearted copy attempt. The only good thing it did was continue the flow of fresh OC tits.
