Dude, clearly you need to upgrade 2 things if your rating is that low.
Upgrade your hard drive and your processor. Seriously all that RAM is going to waste.
Get an SSD and a high rpm 500gb HDD.
And get a fucking iseries processor. An i5 should easily make that computer run like a fucking nigger who just stole a kilo of cocaine.
The only reason I have not bought an i series processor is because in all this rig only cost me about $250 after all the upgrades. I know the Xeon's are old but they are dual quads and that is good enough for what I do. I have had it for 2 years though so i series is what I will be going to next.
Also don't waste money on an i7. If you have a mobo that supports overclocking (or have the knowledge to make it do so) and i5 is all you'll ever need. Shit, even without overclock the i5 is still the best bang for your buck.
Also seriously, SSDs improve performance drastically.
Gotta love that hot as fuck r9 290. Need to get a diff cooler than reference. Still plays like a fucking champ though.
Windows 8.1 64-bit
i5-3570k OC'd to 4.2ghz
8gb ram @ 1600mhz
MSI Twin Frozr gtx 680 OC running two monitors.
2tb hdd/128gb ssd
asus sabertooth z77 mobo
gettin old but it still gets the job done.
Meh, I have a separate work notebook which is win 7, but for all else I still use this.
Ive had this laptop so long now its practically a part of me, and still running like a trooper. Im doing my bets to keep it protected anyway
Does anybody know what kind of damage could someone do if someone took the motherboard from a laptop and left it on bed?
You know hipotetically...
Ive a 10yo old laptop running linux. and it's still runs better than than what you winbows fags use.
Hackintosh FTW, fags
This is my windows experience raiting. Had to go through powershell because 8.1
2 GTX 670
I5 2500k OC (4.7GHz)
Vertex 3 128GB SSD
600 GB HDD
16gb (4X4) ram 1600
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Mobo
It's a little dated but it sure as hell still gets shit done
Sure, i'll bite.
using pic i needed earlier today.
:D and I play Starcraft II High settings, Planetside medium settings, Elderscrolls Mid-High settings. Should I stop??
Also, what graphics card do you suggest I upgrade to, because I've been having some back and forth between gtx 660, 750ti and 760.
No SSD but that's alright. Just got this yesterday!
>tfw your motherboard has a single dead ram slot and you cannot into quad channel anymore
nigga pls I can run crunchbang with my browser/media player/music player open and be using 400mb of ram. Get on my level
try windows 8.1. Then come back with lels.
8 cores worth of garbage. AMD think the more cores you have the more horsepower you have. Fine me games/programs that use more than 4 cores. Any similar tier intel cpu will shit on yours. Do some research.
Everything @ Ultra lol.
I've been playing Far Cry 3 lately, but I play a lot of games, normally mixing it up.I've been playing games just to see how well they run on max settings. Watch Dogs has been awesome, SweetFX mod is crashing the game for me though. Will attach game list in a minute.
My rig from the outside, non mentioned pieces from my specs:
Corsair H100i Liquid Cooler
NZXT RGB Hue LED Controller (Lights)
Case: Corsair Air 540
You call yourself a builder? Lol
>Doesn't say any reason why
>Mad at the cheap build that can comparatively work against his over priced shit
P.s. I went with an apu for the supposed non integrated fm2/+ cpus coming out next year. Plus they run much cooler than any other cheap cpu in hot environments. (it was 94 in my room today. Fucking AZ)
my machine is from 2009. bought it when win7 first came out
Boot drive is an OCZ RevoDrive X2. Still the fastest SSD I've ever seen.
The 580s are starting to die (random black screens and shit while in games), but I'm hoping they'll hold until the 800 series comes out. Might have to settle on a pair of 780tis and use one of the 580s for PhysX, though.
I'm poor :'(
I can't even have more than 2 virtual machines up at a time!
Fair deal. But at 1080p with a 780ti you really need to look at a 120/144hz monitor.
Doubt you've tried it. You're just bandwaggoning on what other faggots say about it. It's faster, more efficient and cleaner than windows 7 in every single way. Stay ignorant.
thinkpad W530 maxed specs.
The base speeds are good enough that I haven't really had to overclock yet.
Win 7 is pretty decent too though. But... yeah... I liked XP too.
Maximum performance mode 24/7
Still works fine though.
Okay I'll just ignore my 8.1 laptop then.
win9 geting announced for 3rd quarter 2015 next week
didn't feel like buying a new mobo, best amd proc that I could get for am3+ and the price was pretty nice too, gotta love black fridays on newegg
what should i upgrade? i'm thinking it's time for a new gpu
Yeah I am planning on getting a better monitor once I have the desk space to fit one. I currently use the one listed + a 50" Panasonic Plasma (Don't give a fuck about LED/LCD bullshit, look at a plasma and tell me it doesn't look fucking gorgeous. I dare you) as my second monitor.
I also have to replace my motherboard, as it came with bent pins (I bent them back and they work fine now), a dead fan port, and a dead RAM channel. Kinda a bitch, but I'll get a new mobo soon enough.
660ti brother, wish I could find another so I could SLI, love this card
Was going to get one when I finally bother to waste money upgrading.
This machine has been flawless apart from my motherboard issue, but I can just build on a new one and get my quad channel ram back where it belongs.
Unless the 50" TV is 4k, I'd puke at the upscaling.
My 44" TV I used to use for my ps3 was 1080p max and the upscaling gave me a headache.
Bad luck about the mobo tho.
what iwjLt0A2 said.
It's 1080p, 4 years old, yeah it upscales, but I don't use it primarily for gaming. I kinda just use it as a second monitor to monitor my stream from. I use my Asus for gaming.
I have those in my system. G.Skill Ripjaws X has been perfect, 1866 is a great choice
Any tips on getting better fps on games? Have tried razer's/amd optimization software and it doesn't seem to work. Playin' Watch Dogs, Titanfall, and other games happily.
i despise the layout, the whole support(hand holding) bull shit, and the navigation.
Why do i need to do a "advanced" shutdown just to enter bios/boot a disc? Why do i need to set it to legacy over UEFI to boot a usb drive? I understand its easy to do all of this but i hate the fact that they would implement this shit. I don't like shit to change. I like to be able to fuck with shit with ease, something is fucken wrong!! ill fix it with reading tuts/info and working with the system manually.
Vid card had corrupt drivers. Needed to set a bunch of stupid fucken rights to dtrip drivers and install updated versions of the ones that wouldn't update due to corruption.
>wanting giant displays
>not using a 1920x1080 display with vidya downsampled from 1-2 resolution steps above
You don't even need AA, it's fucking amazing.
Ah, I don't use mine as a monitor. It's off to the side for when I'm watching movies/shows and for vidya when I want to use a controller.
That's cause it's a TV, not a monitor. I don't use it as a monitor, it's a second display I can throw something on if I want to. 100% secondary screen. I'd rage if it was my primary one.
>76 Celsius on MOBO and CPU
Dude YOUR FUCKING TEMPS ARE TOO HIGH.
DISABLE THE FUCKING AUTO-PLAY.
I don't have a shit-tier laptop that gets hot just watching a video, and it's uncomfortable trying to fap with an entire laptop on your lap. I always get pretty vigorous and am worried it's going to fall.
>another bro who understands wire management
son i am proud
before anyone asks this is from the middle of putting this shit together, yes I am aware things are missing
Your CPU is aging as well. A 660ti, 670 or 680 would all be good choices for the CPU you have right now. Or if you perfer AMD a 7970 would also be good choice.
However those gpus are hard to come by now so you're probably ready for an upgrade all round.
Toshiba P-850. Works pretty well. only issue I have is that the screen is pretty horrible. the glare/colors. but it plays games so that is nice.
You running the stock heatsink? If so I'd suggest just grabbing a closed loop liquid cooler as opposed to upgrading the processor. Cheaper, can do it now, and then if you still want to upgrade the processor later you can still use the same cooler. Idk if 880's will be worth it when they're brand new. I'd recommend the 6GB 780's, I'm probably gonna wait for the 6GB 780 Ti's personally, but they're gonna be expensive as fuck.
As much as I hate to say anything good about Macs, the IPS displays on their newer MBPs are fucking nice. I wish PC manufacturers would start putting IPS displays in their laptops.
graphics card is now bottleneck but since its a laptop im screwed
I don't really know why but they fluctuate pretty crazily. In the past 10 minutes I've seen them go from 70 to 82 then back to 70.
Then again, I do keep an infinite amount of shit open, and try to push the settings so that each of those things are still running at peak performance.
And no I'm running the OS from that 2TB Seagate Barracuda. I don't mind using it for now. SSD is obviously the way to go, but I work at a computer store. I'm gonna scoop one with my discount soon.
i have made the (really stupid) decision to just shell out bookoodles of money every few years and just stick with laptops. something like the Aorus. I go to too many different places with my laptop to play with pals that a desktop would just slooow me down.
the ONLY thing I like about my brothers macbook is the screen. not so much the colors but just how clear it is. even a matte finish or something would be nice. this thing is a fucking mirror
Yea, the retina display is pretty damn nice.
Running Windows on it is a pain, though, since Windows can't scale its UI all that well so you're left with everything looking small as fuck.
Quick screen off my work laptop. Imagine that on a 15" screen.
Hey /b/, where do you think I should go next?
My plan was:
Get a GTX 660
Get an i5
Maybe upgrade my peripherals; Keyboard, Mouse, Case etc
Upgrade MOBO to Dual SLI 2 GTX's
Sadly, my shit is old, and RAM's not cheap for it. It gets the job done.
Built this shit with like 100 bucks, planning to make it decent anytime soon.
currently running on a 750gb hdd. getting new ssd and hdd soon
660 will be a good investment. Maybe wait till the 880's are released to drive down price (If that's a concern).
There are no i5's for your 1155 socket type. You will have to opt for an Intel Core i7-3770k ($325) to prevent you from changing your motherboard.
Peripherals are entirely up to you. You can go for an i5 if you want to change your motherboard (as you want dual SLI compatibility), unless you really don't like your case I'd only recommend changing it if you want to go up in mobo size (Most likely to accommodate dual SLI)
You're about ignorant as fuck. I build computers for a living, and I can promise you, on equal hardware, Windows 7 kicks 8.1's ass performance-wise. The only plus for 8.1 is that it is capable of better video when gaming. Still, that's not reason enough for me to want to use it.
The case I have is really poorly made so I am going to change that. I am hopefully going to get the NZXT Phantom 630
I assumed I could get an i5 I guess I will have to change the motherboard after getting my GTX. I could always get one 660 then get an 880 when it's price is down and build use this i3 build with 660 as it all should be swapped out.
I don't. I'm rocking two 580s right now with my old 295 as a PhysX card, but the 580s are slowly dying and I'm hoping to hold out until the 800 series is released, but might have to settle on a pair of 780tis.
Spent so much on your PC that you couldn't buy your own games, huh?
Feels good not overpaying for performance that I don't even need whilst still getting the full experience out of my games.
FX-8350 + HD 7950 here, I can play any game I want @ 60fps and by not spending all that money on my hardware, I was able to afford pic related.
>dark souls 2 offline
What a joke.
That'd be a nice case, real easy cable management! You could grab a 660 then an 880, but you won't be able to run them in SLI, so unless you're gonna slowly buy enough parts for an entirely new build, I would recommend sticking with 660's.
But if you're looking to change parts out slowly, that could work as well.
Okay, sweet. I am hopefully getting a 660 this month. I will probably put money by and buy a full new setup around christmas time. Any good motherboards good for SLI around £100-150?
>Implying I don't have physical copies of games I actually like
>Implying I don't play Free-To-Play games such as Smite, Warframe, LoL, etc
>Implying I don't play emulator games
>Implying I use my computer purely for games
I use my PC to make money doing 3D animation, design, or special effects. Games are a hobby. I'll gladly opt to get better performance and cheap out on a couple games. If you're looking to play games might as well gone with an Xbox or a Playstation, dumbass.
I can't say I know a whole lot of motherboards, I did a boatload of research on all the top-end ones. Wish I could help ya, but if you're looking for an i5 i'd recommend getting an 1150 socket board, as they have a whole lot of options.
Fuck me the Image...
I'll do some research see what is coming out this year and plan ahead
Also, you purchased 173 Games, and you're insulting ME? Holy fuck dude. Have you ever seen one of these?
I'm fucking dying over here! Motherfucker is calling me broke, yet has paid for 173 games. Jesus dude, you don't get out much do you? How many of those games do you play in a year? 20? 30? The rest of it is wasted cash. If only you used less on games and more on your PC. Tisk-tisk
I fixed the sag actually, ghetto, but I fixed it
17.3" HP Pavilion 17-e119wm
AMD Quad-Core A10-5750M 2.50 GHz, with a Max Turbo Speed of 3.50 GHz
1 TB hard drive
AMD Radeon HD 8650G graphics
>this is my laptop
>i wish it had a better graphics card but it can run battlefield 3 on medium
remember this is a laptop and not specifically a gaming laptop either
Thanks! I gotta replace the GPU with something that fits the theme better. I'm hoping AMD will launch the R9 3XX series soon-ish. So I can get a Sapphire 390X, the black/blue cooler and backplate would be PERFECT with my build.
will provide specs if anyone is interested. the green light on the left actually is and LED strip that goes around the whole window, so it actually moves in a circle controlled by an arduino uno
I'm interested in your specs. Also, what are those two circles lit up by LED's? At first glance I thought it was a reservoir for a custom water loop, but I see you have a self contained Corsair CPU cooler. So what's the deal?
