I live in QLD, and the law up here is that if you are on your L plates, you are allowed to drive a high powered vehicle, such as a v8 or a turbo, of coarse as long as you have a person that is allowed to teach you to drive. But why is it that for a person on their P plates they are not allowed to drive a v8 or a turbo unless they have some sort of exemption? In my opinion, a P plater would have to have much more experience with driving than a person on their L plates, and yes I understand that the person on their L plates would be with a responsible adult, but still.. the driver has full control therefore it would seem more dangerous that a L plater is driving a v8/turbo over a P platers.

Depends which state you are in, in Vic police usually only have to give name/rank/station location if they have first asked for your details.
People get so caught up on asking for badge numbers, I will give anyone my details if they ask for them (far easier that arguing with people about it for 10 minutes) but I never give my badge number on principal

Australian police generally don't have badge numbers as such, they do have personnel numbers but you don't need them

All the law requires them to give you is name, rank and station. You can easily lodge a complaint off this but I'd advise you to take a photo of them anyway

Never complain to the station, it goes fucking nowhere. Leapfrog them as I always do straight to CMC or your state's equivalent. It is much more serious for them to deal with and will usually get ethical standards command involved in it. If nothing else, it frightens junior officers :)

That makes sense. I can't imagine the actual station doing anything. Each tends to (well, from what I've observed) stick together and cover each others' backs. Which I guess is great for them but shitty for anyone with a legitimate problem with one of the officers.

When I have issues (for example, last month my bank was trying to pull some shit over on me) I immediately ask for at least a district manager. I argued with my bank's manager for about 30 minutes and got nowhere, then finally asked for the DM's info. She got back to me promptly that next morning and helped me out, apologizing for any inconvenience.

I'm really tired and I think I'm rambling, but going to the higher ups is a great thing and almost always gets things sorted out.
