something that i would really like is if you could give a very basic outline of the procedure of doing this. i can never think of a good way to go about doing it in Photoshop and Google is of no help.

Well first I shop out the straps using the clone tool.

Next step is to take a brush with a soft edge, and sample (alt-click) the areas surrounding the top for skin tone, and shade it (this part takes practice, look for the shadows on the top to see where darker skin tones should be).

Next step use patch tool to even out the lines between shades.

Next step I use the path tool to smooth out the edges between the shades sections.

Little details are important such as a very light strength burn along the bottom of the breasts to give them that "im overhanging" feel.

Now I use the patch tool with transparency on to get skin tone sampled from somewhere else on the body.


Next I sample dark skin tone, some times from the skin, sometimes from the lips. Put a light strength paint brush tool and create the nipples. Darker in the center, lighter for areolas. Usually use a tiny bit of burn around the nipples according to the light in the pic to make them pop a bit.

Keep in mind a lot of it is an understanding of the way light and shading plays on skin in different situations. That's why I did this surf series - underwater is a challenge for my shading technique.

Youd be surprised the random variables that make one pic hard to do vs. another. Even a nude bub would take probably 10 min to do decently.

Think less dynamic lighting. Look at the way the light dances across her chest. That takes a bit of finessing to get just right.

Totally agree. The problem is I tend to get artifacts when using the patch tool to duplicate skin texture and the noise helps to even them out. It's a tradeoff between speed and perfection. Any tips for not getting those artifacts? My #1 beef with the patch tool is that the sampling can produce really unnatural shading. I wonder if you can feather the selection on the patch and if it would help.

Also I think there's a lack of realism in the nipples. I have a really hard time with the transition from nipple to areola, and areola to breast tone. I use the patch tool over the whole thing as a blanket fix, but it doesn't look that perfect. Could copy from actual breasts, but it feels like cheating

Before I leave - this isn't half bad. If you put a tad more time into the nipples, and added some texture to the breast tissue + fix the hair line by the bra strap (either with the clone tool to put hair over it, or slaving over it) you could get away with a lot less blur and white saturation.

Good hint for the hole job layers and files you can put a filter on each one to do a different thing.
The nipples should have an embossed blend and drop shadow not much but just enough the look flat and be careful with over clonking one spot because the Colors will look all the same.
