Gather round the cyber campfire, /b/rethren, for I have a story to recount. It is the story of /b/’s fall from grace.

Have you ever wondered why, in a place where literally anything could be said, or any idea shared, there is such a constant proliferation of trap threads, sissy hypno and cock rating?

Have you ever noticed that, on a board that is ostensibly “random”, there seems to be a distinct pattern to the flow of information on /b/?

Have you ever thought it odd that the famed source of all original content and internet activism seems to have become a repeating slideshow of the same old degeneracy?

Well, read on and wonder no more.
>>
i'll bite just this once...
>>
>>550815127

You see, this board represents something more than just a dumpster of perverted pornography.

An anonymous forum with no content restriction? That is, and once was, so much more than the /b/ we see today. It represents freedom of thought and speech, without the risk of ostracisation or judgement in meatspace.

It represents the epitome of the web’s capabilities as a global agora – the internet is a vast network of instantaneous communication and universal translation, and on /b/ it is unfiltered, uncensored, uncontrolled.

There are no rules for what we can say, to anyone on Earth with a connected computer. Remember the “Arab Spring”? That was with just Twitter and Facebook, both of which are strictly moderated and overseen by their respective employees and the legal authorities. Imagine the force that /b/ could unleash, if it were permitted.

Perhaps you can tell where this is going. Perhaps you've seen what I've seen.

So, to the established control structures, /b/, and 4chan in general, is a very scary concept indeed. Our good friend Christopher Poole started it all up in 2003 as a place for weeaboos to share their love of anime without fear of embarrassment, but he unwittingly opened the Pandora’s Box of potential dissidence.

Within a few short years, the users realised what this place was capable of, and Anonymous was born. While today, they are largely discredited by association with teenaged skiddies in Guy Fawkes masks, there was a time when they made headlines around the world for challenging arbitrary authority.

Because while a DDOS attack on the FBI’s website might not be any kind of crippling strike on the agency’s infrastructure, or even anything more than a vague annoyance for their IT department, it was a clear message. It was a direct challenge to the authority of the state, an expression of discontent that reached the eyes and ears of everyone with an internet connection.

It distinctly said, “the people of the internet don’t play by your rules, we make our own”. It indicated that the new frontier was cyberspace, and like every new frontier before it, there was going to be a shake-up of the old social order.
>>
>>550815483

It was boxes of tea in Boston Harbour, it was William Bligh being pulled from under his bed – it was a declaration of independence from the thought police, and a declaration of war.

The authorities were rightly scared, scared shitless. They wasted no time. Over the course of a few months, the active members of Anonymous were rounded up. SABU and others turned tattle-tale to get their sentences ramped down, and soon enough there was a brand new population of “cyber-criminals” in our prisons.

But there was still a problem. The problem of 4chan, and especially /b/. It was still a hive of disenchanted, disillusioned, well-educated youth, replete with a queen and a hivemind all of its own. A hornet’s nest that threatened to keep stinging.

pickled brain.jpg
260KB, 537x830px
>>550815591

So a plan was devised, to utilise /b/’s own strength against it – its freedom. If Anonymous could post anything they wanted, so could the authorities. If Anonymous could reach the minds of /b/tards and incite them to one-mindedness and action, so could their enemies reach those same minds to spread confusion and incite passivity.

The goals were:
-to discredit Anonymous, and prevent its reappearance
-to monitor, and where necessary subvert, any interchange of serious thought on 4chan
-to break the minds and spirits of any potential future dissidents

The method? Well, that comes back to my first post, and the strangely repetitive degeneracy. The threads about big dicks, cuckolding, all women being whores? They are aimed at your sense of sexual security. The threads about crossdressing, traps and transgender nonsense? They are engineered to confuse your sexual orientation. The threads about gore, genital mutilation and idolisation of mass-murderers? They are designed to desensitise you to the normal range of human emotion.

This whole forum has been weaponised against you, dear /b/rother, for fear that you might weaponise it yourself instead.

It's not an accident that these deliberately disturbing threads get ceaselessly bumped to the front page, and there aren't actually that many individual users who visit them.

It only matters that they be seen, that the images fill your mind and do their subliminal work. You don’t need to reply to the thread, just scroll past it and witness the images, read the words.

It's a technique of mental violation, emotional affront, for the purposes of engendering (pun intended) mental instability and dysfunction.

They are making monsters here, who will slowly succumb to the culture of misanthropy and perversion that they have created, and recede from the real world out of disgust and despair.

You have your threads for triggering insecurities, your threads for numbing emotional response to tragedy, and your threads for confusing sexuality. What do they represent? A three-pronged assault on the mind, subconscious triple-tentacle rape, targeted at 18-25 y.o. males who might be attracted to the concept of an online forum of anonymous freedom of expression. The perfect, silent weapon against the force of youth, in a quiet war for your willpower.

But hey, maybe I’m wrong. I certainly can’t prove any of this. Maybe it’s just a coincidence that those same threads roll around time and again, with the same pictures and the same text, evoking the same feelings in /b/tards, day after day. The thing is, I know what a coincidence supposedly is, but I’ve yet to see one in the flesh.

My first and foremost recommendation is to abandon /b/ forever, but I know as well as you do that this is an unlikely occurrence.

I recommend that you don't respond how they mean for you to.

Fight the negative with positive. It sounds cliched, but I know it can be done, because I myself have had conversations with anons that truly did result in the exchange of serious ideas.

If you read an interesting article in a scientific journal, bring it to /b/ and start a thread.

If you see an amazing piece of art, start a thread.

If you want to talk politics, start a thread.

If you want to talk philosophy, start a thread.

Stop lurking, start posting. Initiate our own forum slide, and maybe, just maybe, we can start to rebuild the community that they have worked so hard to destroy.

Their motto is, "where there is confusion, there is profit" - so let's fight ignorance where we see it. Cries of fedoras and autism and whiteknights be damned, let's put the internet to some good use.

God knows we've got nothing better to do, or else why would we be here?

Well, in my opinion it is likely to be the Intelligence Community. They have a noted online presence (cf. NSA, FBI, GCHQ, Five Eyes, PRISM, etc.), and this kind of psychological operation would definitely fall under their jurisdiction.

So the state, essentially. The wardens of the Black Iron Prison, to borrow a phrase from Philip K Dick.

Nope. Anonymous was just a bunch of kids that found each-other coincidentally through 4chan.
The repetitive 'patterns' are easy to explain
1) No one has OC of traps, etc. There's only so much out there
2) The internet is for porn. Sure something funny will pop up every once in a while. Mostly though we're all horny bastards with no shame.
3) Threads for triggering insecurities = give people anonymity and they become assholes.

And you know what? Even if you are right. The government still wouldn't give a shit. Know why? Cuz we're all lazy fucks when it comes to politics.
When was the last time any of us went to a local caucus? When was the last time any of us voted or scourged the news to better inform ourselves about our local governors? Do we even know our own local governor?! The only people who vote are old saggy fucks that want to keep inflation high for their medicare. Face it OP, we're disgusting.

tl;dr: It's not the government. It's us.
>>
Bump 4 interest
>>
Well that is true, for websites like this are on those intelligence agencies' top priority lists. But I'm not sure they would go across doing it like that. If u really want. We could go on a mission trying to track the people who start those annoying threads. Because I really hate them too. See if they have a common source.
>>
>>550817864

In my country, voting is compulsory. I personally pay attention to politics, perhaps that's not usually the case.

>It's not the government. It's us.

Maybe you're right, but in that case you can consider the purpose of this thread to point out the fact that we are actively working against our own success as human beings, and that we have the power to reverse that behaviour.

Regardless of the responsible party, there is no denying the effect of what is occurring, and we have the power to prevent it - so why not do so?

>But I'm not sure they would go across doing it like that

I'm not sure if you've been reading the Snowden stuff as it's being leaked, but it's been made clear that this kind of psychological warfare is the specialty of these people.

There was a great deal of concern during the Cold War that the Communists were using similar methods in campus societies and newspapers, and that was 50 years ago. Even if that wasn't the case back then, just baseless paranoia, I'd have no trouble believing that is was underway today, given how much potential the internet possesses, and how easy it is to flood it with information.

>We could go on a mission trying to track the people who start those annoying threads

I would love to see this happen. I don't personally have any idea how I would go about doing such a thing, though.

Why? Dude you ask anyone if they would prefer to
- actively go against the stream and flood of shit
- fight for what's 'right' constantly despite the shitsstorm they'll recieve
- and then maybe...just maybe you have the slight chance of being a drop of water in an endless ocean

OR

- fap to sexy pictures

What do you think people will choose?
I'm not trying to to shoot you down. I admire your idealism. It's just...exactly that. Idealistic.
Anyone has the power. I think we all subconsciously know that. I just think we all choose to ignore it.

But that's the thing. They're not sexy pictures, at least at first. It takes a long time, and a great deal of overexposure, to be desensitised to the point where beating off to shittingdicknipples.jpg is actually possible.

I don't mind if I'm just going to be a drop in the ocean. I'll keep reposting this thread as often as possible, and maybe it will catch on.

Maybe we can make /b/ truly random, and bring it up to the level that we're capable of. We won't know until we try.

Because to me, all the stuff we're seeing every day feels too contrived. The content we see over and over again doesn't reflect the unfettered mind, at least as I would expect that to look. It is the same threads, with the same themes, evoking the same emotions and insecurities, and none of it is positive.

And I even remember the days when /b/ wasn't so bad. I remember when it was almost equal parts disturbing and hilarious, and raids were successfully carried out on those who threatened our ideals.

Also, I'd like to know what people think about the rash of threads about sharing photos of each other, or information about our age, where we live, what we do, etc.

Well, dear /b/rother, that is what they would like you to think.

But as the old story goes, after Pandora's Box is opened and all the evils of the world fly out and spread, hope can still be found sitting at the bottom of the Box.

As I said before, 4chan is a Pandora's Box of sorts, and God knows it's thrown out its fair share of evils, so if we do a bit of poking around there, should be some hope lying about here somewhere.

I think I first visited in around 2006 or so, and yes, times have certainly changed and the pattern seems pretty clear to me.

I gave it quite a lot of thought, and I realised the implications that Anonymous first carried. They didn't even get halfway to their full capability, as events like the Arab Spring really demonstrate.

I also noticed what this new /b/ was doing to my mind, what kind of things I was getting used to, and how far they truly are from healthy thought processes.

The internet is an unprecedented and unsurpassed weapon, no doubt about it. And powerful weapons don't just sit around and get rusty in this day and age.

The internet has so much potential to subvert the powers that be if information and ideas are freely and willingly exchanged. But as you've said, they know this, and not only are they trying to stop it form happening but they are using it for their own ends as well. It makes me wonder if your optimism that the internet still can be a revolutionary force is misguided, if they've already won the battle for the new frontier.

I think as long as optimism is still possible, hope is not lost. Certainly at this stage, while the ISPs are private organisations and net neutrality remains more or less intact, we still have free reins.

I'll do some thinking and come up with a concrete plan.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-06-11/second-american-revolution-now-inevitable
Gladio was essentially a secret army of operatives and stooges, handlers and puppets, used to create false-flag terrorist shootings and bombings across Europe that were blamed on “left-wing extremists.” In reality, NATO alphabet agencies were behind the entire facade. The goal was to terrorize the citizenry through a nonstop campaign of indiscriminate death, blamed on a convenient scapegoat, so that individuals would hand over more freedom and more power to the central governments.

no you misunderstand
the reason why the old /b/ was great was because it wasn't a group of kids who needed to be overexposed or desensitised to shit to fap to it or find it funny. 4chan used to be great beacuse it was honestly a small community of fucked up individuals who were either like minded or at the very least interesting and intelligent. these days you have every dumb ass underage douche bag who thinks it's cool to be on 4chan here. everything is the same in threads these days because this is what the mainstream idiots secretly think. you give them the outlet to think and speak as they like and they either spout the same crap or they follow the lead of others.

I remember my old days of lurking and posting on /b/ it was atleast 20 times slower so you could reply easily and the posts were in the majority fairly similar to what you see today except there was more variety and more people made the effort to reply and post decent content. now people just lurk for porn or funny shit and then post the same crap they've seen before

I didn't read everything but let me tell you how this shit really goes.

Faggots and bi-sexual faggots have no honor code, they lack the understanding of lot of things. They over do things, they ask for the wrong kind of attention, they snitch, they betray, they are general evil minded, like i said, they have not some sort of honor code, one that a normal white male has.

Of course the guys in blue and Jewish organizations, feminists and other "organizations" post here as well, but that would you do as well, if you were fanatic and part of some idiot organization/cult/government.

It all because of the coming of new people.
More and more faggots are coming to this board (they are disgusting people and very fanatic, this will not stop)
The ones that stay are happy here with their fellow fuckups.

more and more "normal" people are coming (the ones that listen POP music and watch sports)

some of the "normal" people are the ones who lack a lot understanding of the honor code as well. They snitch copypasta threads (hurr this is pasta, followed by a knoyourmeme url). They come here with there tacky and trashy attitude because they are the same kind of stupid you see on your job or college/university. The same kind of people who don't have a code of honor and are commercial brand sluts

I hope i made sense, since I'm not English.
>>
I think /b/ just got flooded by normals with low IT skills and low intelligence after 4chan started to make the news around 06/7. I can remember when sexual threads used to be a fairly rare occurrence because people just browsed the internet randomly if they wanted porn.

Around 08 the site started getting flooded with threads of porn until that's all you virtually find on the front page is threads with cock images. Probably a result of hyped up college/highschool kids being attracted to the site.

/b/ was better when nobody cared about the rules, not even the mods. You could talk about anything, not many people bothered to post CP or spam. Now, you get spam, advertisements and other uninteresting crap all the time.

/b/ has been flooded by children and dumb asses who don't know how to computer.
>>
What is it actually about all those "rate my gf's boobs" or just "rate my gf" threads? people seeking attention and approval on anonymous website? why do we actually need approval? why do we insult other people and downgrade other so they become insecure and do the same to others?
why do we have to hate against anything? on this site i see quite a lot of hate against homosexuals, blacks, fat people, feminists etc.
why don't we just stick together and use what we have got for the right thing? and i know how small the chances of success are. i know, that everyone, who actually has success after years of trying is only a waterdrop in the ocean. but we are millions here! we are enough for at least a few buckets! we can do something, we just have to try.

and i would start by reducing the extreme amount of insults and hatred on this board. no anything-hate threads. no -fag at the end of every word. not seeing fag as an insult at all.
do what you can guys, i count on you.

People hate blacks, homosexuals, fat people and feminists because they are irritating.

blacks - thug mentality, brutish and dumb.
fat people - greedy, lack of self-control, whiny
feminists - whiny, stupid, sexist
homosexuals - seen as deviants, selfish, deluded etc

All those things are just human weakness, which is what people really hate. /b/ is a place for the strong. THE INTERNET WARRIOR.

This all has a very tinfoil conspiracy touch to it.
However, I've been visiting this site long enough to see a shift in the interests. I have no claims to being old, this isn't a size fest, just long enough to notice something like what you say.

However, there's always been traps. Bailey Jay earned his/her first hits here.
Gore threads the same, it's always been around. Part of imageboard culture is 'laughing' at these things.
This cuckolding nonsense however, I think you might be onto something there.

But, /b/ is in someways an elaborate joke. What's been detrimental is some people see too much into it, and take things at face value.

I'd also like to add, I don't think it's only 4chan, but the entire net is getting dumbed down. All sites follow suit consequently

I like your ideas OP, even if your premise is proven wrong, it would be great to get more thinktanks going, people discussing issues, etc. It's all a bit idealistic, but trying for the best if where dignity's at.

Have a bump.

All of them are autistic or have some other shit going on up there
They grow up with jealousy and other pathetic behavior.
There are very few gays that only want good for others, the rest if very ugly inside.

>90% of people you meet in the street match up to this description
There a very few normal people indeed, but now a days there is this culture to not care and people copy behavior.

Sorry but it sounds like you're a repressed homosexual assburger who's obsessed with judging gays. The irony is that you don't realise that your 'nature' is very ugly inside and full of illogical hatred. I'm pretty angry that they think it's okay to manipulate people like that and think people won't notice. They do it by getting 'influental' people like Youtubers to sign non-disclosure agreements and then sign a contract that says 'you can't say anything bad about the product.'

This is actually against marketing regulations because you are supposed to inform the audience when it's an advert that is being paid for. Note on TV when it says 'this is an actor'. The scumbag corporations are probably all doing it, who knows what else they're doing that isn't against regulations, trying to manipulate what people think using the internet.

The problem is with US law. Right now they can force owners of websites/businesses to allow access to the NSA, 'law enforcement' and etc and then also force the website owner to keep quiet about it.

If the website discloses the fact that people are being spied on then they go to jail. This is what happened to Google and Microsoft and it's why they never said anything about Skype being tapped.

Really I have no problem with law enforcement taking over 4chan and monitoring /b/ as long as they fucking tell the public about it.

First off the post says it's a parasite so lern2read.

Yes it's a real parasite, and yes it's related to the disgust reaction in human beings. Disgust is a mechanism by which humans avoid exposing themselves to disease carrying vectors. In simple words it means we avoid bodily fluids like vomit and are disgusted by them so we don't get any nasty virus, bacteria or parasites from it.

Dont even worry about it OP. The internet will take down government institutions just like the printing press took down the church and monarchys. Its inevitable.
If any society tries to control its citizens by denying them access to the information of the internet, it will become uncompetitive and fall behind. While more free and open societies will get stronger, because they grow much faster.
Its just a matter of time. Keep cool. Go slowly.
>>
>>550815127
You, sir, make an excellent point.
And as far as I'm familiar with human psychic and way of thought, I do believe that the occasional thread about something beautiful, thoughtful in its amusement, constructive and positive as a whole would make much of a difference.
I myself look at all the gore, trap and other stupidity of the sort that gets posted here constantly, but I never write in those threads. Why? Because I've nothing to say to them, as they have nothing to say to me.
But a thread with an idea, even an idea as ridiculous as one that shows how to slice a carrot with a chopstick for instance, is worth the time that takes to comment on it.
I applaud your great mind's idea and I thank you for stopping my seemingly endless lurking.
And yes, the wallpapers are quite exquisite, thanks for sharing them as well. I hope I can download them before the thread gets deleted.

Cheers!

I thought the same thing, it's very strange for an anonymous image board that people would want to reveal themselves so willingly.

I'm also quite paranoid, and truly think the "rate my eyes" threads are government based and are secretly tracking an storing optical prints ( like fingerprints) for their own means.

Then again, millennials have shown that they don't care about anonymity, nor do they care about handing out all their personal information and interests for free over Facebook.

You're a good example of all that OP has put before us.

Especially that line "The only people who vote are old saggy fucks"

Is that why you don't vote? 'Cause it isn't seen as cool? Jesus fucking Christ. Not everyone here is a braindead child. Some of us really do have a clue what's going on. Really do make an effort to inform ourselves. Really don't give a shit how that is perceived by others.

Also none of the Occupy protests were organised by anonymous. I was saying this at the time and I'll say it again now since OP has touched on the issue again. At the time, Anonymous was feared and gaining a decent amount of support from people who were intrigued by the glimmer of a hope that there was someone out there who COULD stand up to corporations and government organisations and highlight the bullshit they were doing, and quickly these organisations sought to discredit Anonymous and reduce them to nothing more than the butt of a joke. And oh how they succeeded. All you have to do is post a V for vendetta mask these days and people jump on your ass calling you all sorts of retarded. I'd say they succeeded very well in taking public support away from an group of people who actually could make a difference.

It's sad really. /b/ is not the same place it was 6 years ago when I first came here. Partly because the userbase has changed, but that doesn't explain the constant repetitive nature of the same recurring threads and content.

OP just might have done so.

I sometimes wonder why people like you see all these patterns and unjustly assume a motive and modus operandi. Yes, there's a lot of OC in trap threads. Yes, even in chaos, order and certain topics will become more prevalent in time. It's rather a natural progression than psychological warfare of an organization.

Look, I assume you want to feel special for having realized this, but you have to also realize how asinine it is. You suggestions are fine as they promote discussions I personally prefer, but the hogwash about psychological conditioning detracts from your otherwise great points.

OP this is the best thread I have ever come across in my entire time on 4chan. I started /b/rowsing about a year and a half ago. OP again, just dropping in to let you guys know that I won't be emailing anyone or chatting with anyone until I've formulated a plan of action.

Given the nature of this thread, the fact that I seem to be experiencing 4chan issues as a direct result of having started it, and the vulnerability of email, I think at this stage it would undermine the anonymity I'm looking to focus on.

However, I will be returning daily to post this thread and dump my /wg/ collection, so keep an eye out.

Most importantly, let's keep /b/ random. Start your own threads, share your own ideas. Flush the mind rape out to page 10 where it belongs.

I've lurked steadily a few years back. But then not for years have I been here. Honestly I'm basically a newfag/summerfag.

But even the words I just used to describe myself. .. It fits the /b/ culture but I'm my mind's eye this board Coukd be so much more. Thank you OP. This post was glorious and is thinking like this Thay makes me want to stick it out here. I keep seeing Anons have really meaningful conversations but there's so much background noise of'kill yourself' and gore and CP and just bullshit. I'm 37 and I'm not an oldfag buy I am old enough to remember growing up pre-Internet. And how anonominity useded to be the norm and the desired state of things and /b/ seems like one of the last bastions of intent that stuck to this ideals. So I want to be here. I want random. I really really really want the promise that was anonymous to come back. I don't own a guy fawlkes mask but ill go buy one. Is anyone else absolutely terrified of global warming/climate change? Like what positive forces could anon unleash to change the world for the better if the replies weren't 'le xd', 'uve heard th at before', gore, stupidity, sharpie in pooper, etc.
Thanks so much op
I think it's less conspiracy and more just people are dirks that have done this to themselves. I was 13 once too and I probably wouldve just followed the herd. And after a while you think "oh, that's all /b/ is" so you post the same thing you've seen a hundred times befotr and think 'yeah I did it'" but if the many is just trying to imitate what everyone else is doing, we only need to change the pattern
/b/ Coukd be amazing
Yesterday I saw some people paying d&D on /b/. Shit was off the hook. Not a shitpost in there. Or if they was it was so quickly ignored that it didn't matter. What if that was all of /b/ (ignoring the shit; although more d&d would be cool too because it's ridiculously easy to Google images of trannys and fur and maybe instead we can fix global warming? )

Well, I live in Aus. I'm not quite sure how it would work here but it definitely couldn't be worse than the U.S.

Fight the good fight OP. when you stop trying, that's when they win.

This. I'm fucking sick of S/Fur threads, Loli threads, and all of the other garbage. This is what it seems like to me now fellas; pointless garbage. We need to take /b/ back, or find/make a new image board to hang out in.

Thank you OP for opening my eyes. I initially came to /b/ because it was "cool" but now see it's potential and its potential effect it can have on me and my well-being.

I'll do my part. I'll help contribute to /b/ in a positive fashion rather than continuing the circlejerk of threads that don't harness the true potential /b/ holds. I hope you /b/ros can do the same.

d&d on /b/? shame that i missed that, i love reading d&d stories unfold and the ridiculous shit that happens. it's seems like such a fun game to play, but i haven't had the chance to play it ever. all my friends are like "LOL not a video game" or "thats to hard for me"
>>
Why don't we simply get a new board to act as a "thought bubble" that has rules against the gore, porn, etc. A SFW board that is essentially the same as /b/ intended for people who actually want to discuss intelligent topics.

This all makes sense. Think about it, it's always the same photos. It's never anything new, like that "humiliate me /b/" picture of the guy with the small cock or that "rate my wife", it's always the same shit that nobody seems to be visiting (as in the people I know who come to /b/) yet are always there.

Great thread, about time the PsyOPs get called out for what they are! I've been trying for adding the prescence of my own positive/creative posts in my own way (although getting drawn into the horizontal conflicts they try to trigger is at times inevitable).

The main thing is to be aware, and when you are aware you can actually learn a lot about what they are doing by using your own powers of deduction. This is a curious aspect of PsyOps, that the strong-minded can inadvertently be taught by it

Funny thing about these two OPs, is that google just decided to block words like 'nigger' from being assigned to those words. So all you did was make them half a cent less.

Yeah it was awesome. Truly gifted OP. To join you just gave your name and starting equipment. So the was one guy who's starting equipment was lube and a dildo another guy was a bear. The bear fought the party was rendered unconsciousness then eventually joined the party. Was cool
