Hey /b/. Should I buy Dark Souls II locally and play it today or wait to go to another store and buy the first one?
I've never played either, but as I understand it, Dark Souls isn't too concerned with continuity so much as kicking your ass. So... wut
If you're playing on 360 (god forbid) the first game is free until the 15th.
the second one is fine i played both. it's great on pc, the first one wasnt too good on pc. Both arnt very hard, dark souls 1 is a bit less forgiving. Some like that better, I don't really care either way.
Say what you want but I regret "buying" the PC version. Shit is shit yo. Can't even try to play without a gamepad. I still don't know what key brings up the items menu. With that being said the graphics do look better, but I really am not a huge fan of graphics.
The first game is way more creative.
You have a decent PC Anon? I torrented the game to try it out because I thought it would suck, turns out it's amazing and worth the hype.
How so? I was thinking of buying the second game in another week maybe, huge MAYBE, but so many people on /v/ and a lot of youtubers shit on it. I don't want to pay big bucks for a who a gives a fuck game. The gameplay might not be enough to make me happy. I've been playing darksouls since the last week of April.
Yeah, I wish I bought the game. My friend told me there was a Steam sale for it, but I missed it by an hour. Fuck me man, I need to follow steam more often.
Hey you know what I have the same setup. My graphics card is pretty shit, but my PC manages to play games just fine. I would recommend you at least check it out.
I played Bioshock Infinite on my PC just fine and I forgot to turn down the high setting. My PC is the shit son. If only I didn't have a laptop. I could spend 2 or 300$ and be up to speed with everything.
no retard, it's a sequel, companies make sequels all the fucking time using a different name. Same company, same fucking game engine. dark souls 2 has a whole fucking new engine, while demon souls and DS! name on the same engine and fucking game style. stupid bitch you think because it's a different name by one word it's not a sequel?
you're both retarded.
DkS1 was a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls, since From couldnt make a sequel due to Sony owning the rights. They are semi-related, somewhat, but they are not a series.
This, DeS is related by theme mostly. Also consider the fact that DaS is basically a REMAKE of DeS with different story points. VoD/Blighttown, Yurt/Lautrec, Dragon God/Bed of Chaos, Latria/New Londo etc.
Dark Souls 1 has a better feeling atmosphere compared to Dark Souls 2 and the story feels a lot more in depth in my opinion i'd suggest getting the first one whether your on console or PC it should be pretty cheap. I know Dark Souls 1 on Steam is 20 US dollars for the Prepare to Die edition with the DLC.
>story feels a lot more in depth
Indeed. It's wonderful.
DS2 has better gameplay. DS1 has better story, level design and is less forgiving
Clocking around 200 hours for both parts and preferring DS2 at the moment for PvP. Playing a pure physical build without any buffs at 150SL and don't have too much trouble with soul memory. I think most people that complain about it are just bad at the game
DS1 is simply more memorable with the characters, locations etc. It seems like they only gave a shit about the gameplay in DS2.
Just play the first, and if you liked it then go for the second.
How much of the story do you know in the meantime?
You know from the sealer?
You know from Queelags sister?
Have you entered the DLC-area yet?
For me DS is with the story one of the best games of the last years.
Wonderful work they have done in these 8 months.
Dark Souls 2 SOUL is missing in ds1 that dragon in the begining, solaire and the storyline was much better, payed 50 euros for ds2 because i loved the first one now i have to pay more 25 euros (i wont do it) for a fucking dlc probably trying to save the game that was not good as announced.
I beat the entire game multiple times being every boss and the DLC area. I can tell you a backstory on almost all of the characters though some I don't know 100% like Manus all I know about him is he caused the Abyss to take over Oolacile but other than that I have no clue. And I know all about Quelaags sister and the Sealer
Dark Souls 1 is way better than 2. Demon's Souls is better than both, but because of a few of the mechanics they added to Dark Souls, Dark Souls is a little more fun.
So play them in this order:
Dark Souls 1
Dark Souls 2
Blight Town isn't that bad just do the shortcut route through Valley of Drakes then do a few jumps until you reach the bottom then get invaded by Mildred then kick the shit out of Quelaag.
Blighttown is really a hell of place. But it's not even so hard, even when you have these poison spitting flies that chase you over the whole area.
Just try to find you way, go this way and it will be easy like each area.
Wonderful, good that there are more people that enjoy the story so much.
It doesn't matter how many times you die as long as you don't give up.
Just keep doing it until you make it.
Implement that as far in your own life as you want, it has helped me.
Play DaS1 if you want a great game with lots of challenge and reward.
Play DaS2 if you want to play "2hard4u" shit due to ambushing around small corridors and every boss being a big monster of some sort.
I think I heard some kind off quote that is related to this.
At the first walkthrough you try to survive, with the second walkthrough you want to know more about the curse and everything.
Also already ideas for maybe some kind of challenge walkthrough?
I'm on my SL1-run currently and it makes it still makes fun.
While this thread is still around, for you PCfags: Do any of you play at 60fps with DSFix's frame cap removal?
Every time I enable it the game crashes and I can't find a work around.
I don't know if I feel the same way or not, my problem was that they focused so much on making the game difficult that they replaced actual challenging moments with stupid gimmicks.
I dont really get why the little bitches are bitching about the soul memory thing, isn't it just some soul tracker? How much souls there is you've used on your character, that's it. I've always wanted to know how much I put into my character in DS1, so ain't this a bonus?
What's with the bitchin'?
>What's with the bitchin'?
Because it's also relevant for summoning someone.
>I think most people that complain about it are just bad at the game
Good lord these hitboxes.
Fuck these and this thing in particular for real.
Yeah after I beat it the first playthrough and got into NG+ I started reading nearly every item description and trying to get every possible NPC interaction (such as Larentius hollowing in Blight Town). As to challenge runs I haven't done much yet i'm still trying to get gud at all the jump cuts but I have streamed me killing every single boss and not leveling past 55.
That's not even the worst. This right here.
I have started carrying corrosive urns around to chuck them at those faggots while they're buffing their floppy dicks.
You fucking idiot. It was shit because it tried so hard to be difficult. If it would have just focused on being like DaS it would have been fine, but fags like you were like "lol DaS isn't even hard git gud I want a hard game."
I never once complained about the difficulty of Dark Souls 1 because it's not hard once you know how to play it people think it's hard because you die a lot you're a fucking idiot because Dark Souls 2 is the easiest game in the Souls series even with the Covenant of Champions.
First weapon waifu?
>Running around the game for the first time.
>Picked master key because why the fuck not.
>Get my ass whooped everywhere but still somehow manage to make it to the Valley of drakes with the master key.
>See giant drake on the side of the cliff with items everywhere.
>Know something is up, run and pick up all the items as the drake awakens to shit fury on me.
>Dip out and check my inventory.
>tfw Astora's straight sword.
>That sword got me through 70% of my first playthrough and was amazing.
The games are in two different universes and the system is different. Demon Souls is stage based game, while Dark Souls is open world.
It's like saying GTA and LA Noire is the same because they are made by the company and have the same gameplay.
The whole point of the Souls series is to be difficult they added a fucking covenant to make the game harder because its easier than the rest of the Souls series. The biggest reason the Souls series got big is because it capitalized on difficulty and they still added a covenant to Dark Souls 2 to make it harder you're a fucking moron.
Loved DSI and just finished DSII an hour ago. In my opinion almost all of the bosses are on average much easier than most DSI ones. Though they've increased the difficulty of white mobs. They're, in my opinion at least, harder than in the previous soul game. Especially the beginning with Champions Covenant is just pretty lame. Getting 2shot by Zombies which you have to pull in 1, 2, 2, 3 groups has nothing to do with difficulty if you're out of stamina after 2 rolls. Most of the time you're forced to retreat while keeping 1 mob aggro so the others will deaggro. That's a very poor way of playing but sometimes you're forced to, depending on which build you play.
I assume that most people saying it's too easy have been or are playing faith lightning arrows. I agree that the game gets too easy with simple faith builds.
On the other hand, as the player yourself, you can decide how the game shall challenge you. There are hard ways to play it, but these hard ways involve Poison Arrows and general deaggro . I don't like how many of the areas are set up. I feels like fake difficulty.
>Yeah after I beat it the first playthrough and got into NG+ I started reading nearly every item description
Also have you heard about Oscar and Undead King Jar-Eel?
Back to the sealer, have you found each of them?
And one jump in the archives, have you heard the whining of the tentacle creatures?
>trying to get every possible NPC interaction (such as Larentius hollowing in Blight Town)
That he becomes a hollow happend on my first playthrough.
>killing every single boss and not leveling past 55.
You could like the idea of not leveling, just the kings are a little bit stupid on level 1.
I've head Oscar and Jar-Eels found both Sealers and the Tentacle creatures are an abomination that Seath created from women or something right? I didn't get Larentius hollowed first playthrough because I didn't use Pyroman that much and cause him to go to Blight Town
Both? Do you count Ingward and just mean the other two?
Yes. The first time I heard of that I started a new char and played directly 3 hours until I was in the archives, so that I can hear them with my own ears.
Also found Beatrice?
You can think about her background, besides this just the summons for the butterfly or the kings.
The background is interesting in that point that she was never a student of the Vinheim Dragon School, still she can use magic.
Have you enjoyed the Painted World of Ariamis?
Also you know the role of Havel?
Ariamis is fun kinda boring but it's a cool story nonetheless and Havel was a bishop of some sort if I remember correctly and he was a leader of a group of Knights under Gwyn I think not sure about that.
In DaS 1 you had your soul level what was important to summon someone or to invade someone. As SL1 darkwraith you are able to invade other player on level 1, because you are on level 1.
In DaS 2 you have the soul memory, each soul you collect is counted. You want to invade someone or summon someone, then just with a fitting soul memory.
Also Havel seems like some kind of rebel, that's why he had an occult club in his basement, this is why he probably knew where the occult ember was.
With the club he had a weapon to fight again gods, that could be the reason why he is locked in that tower.
Yeah maybe he is a rebel but that's just a possibility. It's also not 100% sure whether that's Havel in the tower and all. But I know the whole story behind Ariamis is they trapped Priscilla with the Dark Ember or whichever ember for Occult is in Ariamis is to trap Priscilla and the Ember which are both the most dangerous things to the gods.
Jumping over to the next, you know pinwheels background right?
So many things, I love it.
I found DS 1 easier than 2. But I always play a melee build with a touch of pyromancy (and pyromancy was patchy as fuck in 2)
Also DS1 is better in just about every way, but 2 is still a very, very good game by most standards
He has stolen from Nitos 'power', yeah. But at least he had good reasons for that. He just wanted to bring back his family.
Pic related and for more just follow >>550261058 before I write it maybe wrong.
Hello mr. Lurker.
His lore trailer was very good thing, I enjoyed it very much.
Yes, I know, it's even more Nito, I have that one too.
After listening to that lore video and knowing some other lore I always feel bad about killing some bosses. I always feel good but still sad for killing Artorias and Sif is just a whole bucket of feels.
Oh I always assumed he had an idea about what would happen during the fall of the Dragons so he never went to fight he is included in the intro so maybe he does have something more to him and people still have no clue about it?
Ah yeah...that feelings. That's something a game wasn't able before, I mean to influence me like that.
Then the same for killing Queelag, after all she wants to keep her sister safe, so I can really understand why Kirk is hunting for humanity.
Have you seen what happens, when you keep the fight against Sif too long?
When his health is almost down and he starts to limp, have you seen what can happen then?
Depends. Dark Souls II to me felt like a combination of Dark Souls and Demon's Souls. Dark Souls has excellent level design, epic boss battles, and is completely unforgiving.
Dark Souls II penalizes players too much by permanently reducing max health every time you die. I haven't played it as much but other than that the graphics are better (on PC at least) and the game runs at 60 fps.
If I was you I'd start out with Dark Souls and see how you like it. Give it a solid effort but most importantly DON'T GIVE UP! You will die tons and tons and tons but it's one of the most rewarding game ever made.
I saw him limp the first time I fought him because he was kicking my ass and I had to fall back to heal and saw that and just broke down I was like "Sif whyyyy why do you have to do this pleaaaaase" and it was intense. I'm trying to think of other sad boss lore.
Do you know it now? Otherwise look on YouTube for something like 'sad sif fight'.
That moment. You also had the alternate intro for the fight?
>I'm trying to think of other sad boss lore.
I will try the same. Also the most what you do in this world is sad, because the most of it will end in more sadness and sorrow, especially when you can't help a friend to find his own special sun.
I started a new char yesterday to coop with someone.
Ill check it out when we get there.
I never got the Sif alternate fight not yet at least i'm planning that on my playthrough I play when I stream but I barely stream because my mic broke so i've just let that rest for now. The saddest lore I can think of other than we mentioned might be O&S just because they were ordered to guard the princess (they may or may not have known she was an illusion) which means we killed them for doing their job. If they know she's an illusion then they are trying to hide Gwyndolin if they don't know she's an illusion they're being tricked into hiding Gwyndolin. The latter of those two options means Gwyndolin just uses them.
Don't pussy out you have to push through in order to feel the true beauty of the game it won't be easy the first playthrough but after you beat it once and play again you'll enjoy it more and more.
You're too weak. How much longer you planning on being too weak?
I had a torrent of it before I got it in a giveaway thread it's not bad to play alone while summoning phantoms during fights if you need them but it's a lot funner to have the legit version to online and PvP but it's up to you whether you want it or not.
Yes, it's. With the time you go on in this world, one will realize this.
When he limps, just wait until it happens, after that, bring it to an end.
After all, how sure can we be, that O&S are real too? At your first encounter they will kick your ass and that really, but 'just' like each other enemy in this town.
They drop the souls, but the sentinels drop a shild, a chunk or whatever what you can use how you want it.
Besides this point, I think they just do their job and I don't really see it so sad. They are loyal and will keep 'her' safe, whatever would happen, like Velstadt tries to keep Vendrick safe. Also Garl Vinland was trying to keep Maiden Astraea safe, but in that case you could probably say that it's sad.
So should I say for myself what is more sad in that case it would be like
Garl Vinland > Velstadt > O&S | maybe Velstadt and O&S on the same level.
You can throw dung pie over the wall and kill him slowly.
Yeah it's not the saddest part of the game but I think it's the only time a boss fight didn't bring the form of the boss onto themselves. Like the Four Kings weren't like that they succumbed to evil power or something and Manus brought the Abyss to Oolacile not many bosses are normal in a sense compared to them. And they most likely aren't illusions since Ornstein can drop the Leo Ring.
Haven't that one either.
Like I said each enemy there can drop something, so maybe even something like this, but that they are real is probably easier to say. At the same time the questions is, why does the old dragonslayer look like O? There should be a special reason, because just copy & pasta would be stupid.
I always assumed that maybe the Old Dragonslayer could be a descendant to Ornstein or Ornsteins family member. It could be that the Old Dragonslayer was told stories of Ornstein and the Four Knights while he was younger and decided to try and be like Ornstein. There are a lot of possibilities but no one knows whether they're true sadly. Also do you play on PC or consoles?
Souls memeory doesnt matter once you got to NG+
They use souls level OR soul memory for match making.
Demon Souls and Dark Souls are completely separate. Demon Souls was created to see if players were interested in that kind of game. It might get it's own sequel, currently under the working name "Project Beast".
I play it on PC with controller of course.
Or it could be O, a weak O indeed or just some kind of hollowed O, look around Heide's Tower of Flame.
The area looks similiar to Anor Londo, it's not the same, but it looks similiar.
Imagine that Gwynevere or at least some servants has left Anor Londo and tried to escape, left Lordran and travelled to Drangleic a long time ago. There they build up this whole area, over the years it crumbled again, just like Drangleic.
It's a flame tower, maybe for Flame God Flann, a god that was mentioned that he left Lordran and was possible married to Gwynevere.
So you have some connections. Just watch out again for Vaati, he has also a clip for the Tower of Flame.
Yeah any of the ideas we posted could be possible they're all just assumptions sadly maybe they'll make more DLC for Dark Souls 2 than Dark Souls 1 and go over on more backstory for some characters that'd be awesome.
My bad. Was miss informed.
"Soul Memory ranges continue to work in "tiers", but since characters will have more souls by natural progression the pools are wider."
I'm excited for it. Let's hope the best.
Also the DLC was original planned for Dark Souls 1, but Namco wanted to push DaS out, so they needed to cut that out, at least that's what I heared.
Yeah if they make a DLC about The Old Dragonslayer I think it would be great but I don't want that to be the only one like in Dark Souls 1 if there are more than 1 DLC it would be great.
I hope these 3 episodes have a decent size.
>/b/ talks about vidya and not only stays on topic, but has a jolly good time doing so
>/v/ talks about random shit when they should be discussing vidya and they are constantly shitter-shattered about it.
This whack-ass site some days.
Good advice! How many times have you died in real life without giving up?
The Pursuer right? I remember the first time I saw him in Forest of Fallen Giants and I was like "Oh I can take this guy" (I was doing dual caestus build) then he 3 shot me...
Yes, it's him. The first times he killed me a lot, but in the meanwhile I killed him even with duel wielding caestus.
While thinking about caestus, the ring for your fists could be really fine.
A friend challenged me to kill him with a dagger without leveling up at all.
It was pretty easy. I dont think he knew you could parry then use the ballistas.
You should become a wretch, then you can have a 95% health reduction, go in the Champion Covenant and then fight him again.
Yes, it's when you can parry him. You can also parry the ruin sentinels without much effort, Mytha is possible too and even Velstadt.
The sentinels are prolly the boss that gave me the most trouble on my first run.
The first tries were awful. Also you can parry the shield, that they throw in your direction.
Then wear enough weapon in the other slots that you can't even roll or walk, so a burden of 125%, then just fight with your fists and wear the Northern Ritual Band.
Oh yeah, that's a little bit annoying, but I want my 100%.
Lol I have to do the same thing for Dark Souls 1 to get all the achievements I need to make a sword and the great shield from Sifs soul and I just don't want to get that shit done but I still push through lol
Ya, ive been putting off starting NG++ for like 2 months. I dont think im good enough to get them from the covs so got to do NG
they're both great, but the PC port of the first one was horrendous (fixable with something called DSfix though).
I reccomend the first one regardless, as it does have some cintinuity (both games are set in the same world).
>I dont think im good enough to get them from the covs so got to do NG
That would take ages for me. But there is the hidden weapon spell from the Bellkeeper, I don't think you can get that somewhere else, but good, just killing 20 hosts.
Ya, already got that.
Only thing im missing are the few spells that you can buy after beating NG++
You don't need to beat NG++, I think you just need to come until Wellager.
Everywhere I check it says that you need to kill Nasha then he will sell them to you.
If what you say is true I could prolly get them really quick since you dont have to kill the big 4.
Just get about 3 million new souls and run to him, I hope that this so easy, otherwise it would just took a little bit longer.
Have you already become a Mirror Squire?
I thought it was 1 million souls to go straight to the castle.
Not sure what you mean.
>I thought it was 1 million souls to go straight to the castle.
NG = 1 million new souls
NG+ = 2 million new souls
NG++ = 3 million new souls
>For example, If you start New Game++ with 3,000,000 Soul Memory you will be required to obtain 6,000,0000 Soul Memory for the Shrine of Winter to open in your current playthrough.
>Not sure what you mean.
Getting summoned by the Glass Looking Knight to fight on his side against another player.
Had no idea it scaled.
I knew that could happen but I dont know how it happens.
>Had no idea it scaled.
Until 8, like everything in the game.
Drop your red sign in the area before the foggate, maybe he will call you to help him. It's just a little bit mean, when you use warmth to heal the knight.
>when you use warmth to heal the knight
Ill have to try that.
>Ill have to try that.
Good luck with that. The player will get a notification that the knight is calling a player.
Also the white ring can be fun for the user.
Learn to read, I have a 4chan "Poor Quality Content" account.
Also I was invading as arbiter spirit in Belfry luna, after some moments there were 2 bellkeeper too, so the host had a funny fight against us.
Just checked and I have 7.7M souls mem.
Gonna start up NG++ and see if I can get them spells quick.
Well, you will do it. Kill them all or take a soul eating outfit, that you can get your souls fast.
