It is, but its sad. Somewhere in that persons life they're not or did not get the attention and love they're supposed to, so either they thought it was a good idea or someone convinced them to do so and they do not have the means to fight back.

The reason self harm is so attractive is because stress and depression block the chemicals that make you happy and relaxed. when you cut or do other things, they release the chemicals that make you feel good. If it isn't stopped, the brain starts to become skewed and tries to rationalize the act and make it feel better and better.

Self harm isn't attractive and won't be to everyone. There has to be first a physiological issue that is usually dormant or slow, or caused by highly stressful situations such as rape or murder. Someone who is raised properly throughout their childhood and teen years is extremely unlikely to self harm; self harm includes cutting, burning, eating disorders, choking, bruising, scratching, etc. Its not hard to figure out.

I can speak from experience and authority when I say this.
When you are depressed, you usually think very badly of yourself. You think you deserve to be punished because you are worthless/stupid/unwanted etc and when you cut yourself, it is actually a sort of reward to yourself, because you are doing to yourself what you believe you deserve. This releases dopamine in your brain which makes you feel "better" and which will drive you to cut yourself more often.
Don't do this. Don't put yourself in this downward spiral of cutting, pleasure then the need to cut yourself more in order to feel good.
Seek help. Cutting only helps for a very short time, you need to look for a long term solution, like going to a psychologist, like I have.

Yeah youre right too, it depends where the urge to cut comes from. If youre depressed, it usually comes from that feeling of worthlessness. Sometimes people actually seek help but don't know how to ask for it, so they ask for attention in a different way, like with cutting, in this example.

My sister did this for years and was hospitalized in a psychiatric facility. We had to hide everything from her at home. Silverware, pencils, pens, tootbrushes, paperclips, everything that she could make into a sharp object. There are some people with psychological illnesses like my sister that are a result of a biochemical impalance in the brain that causes this type of behavior. for some people, they don't even feel it, and do it because it causes a dopamine release into the upper spinal column / parasympathetic nervous system. It can be a legitimate malfunction n the brain that causes this type of behavior. also, my sister was the shyest kid in the world. she didn't want attention for it, and always wore long sleeves to school so nobody knew.

On the other hand, there will always be edgy autistic faggots who want to be hardcore and do it for attention, but those are usually dumb high school students that grow out of it, look back on it, and think about what fucking assholes they were. These type of assholes are what have created so much stigma against the mentally ill.

Another reason is a legitimate sign of a psychological disorder. I used to do it but I can barely tell you why. I've been taking medication for depression for years and have had no desire to do anything of the sort, but before medication, it was one of the only ways I coped. It's a very hard question to answer, but basically I'd say it's attention seeking 80% of the time. Maybe more.

Well I usually cut myself w/o telling anyone (not attention seeking) and with no suicide or permanent harm intentions.
