Starting with a 2005 classic that I just found after booting up my old pentium PC, I can't believe I saved these stories from back in the day.

Anyway this is rather long so bare with me, I'm copy pasting this shit.

------------------------------------
When I originally joined the company I was initially told that the job I was applying for was one that, among
other skillsets and requirements, demanded utmost discretion. Perhaps the only time my lack of social life
and disgust by most aspects of modern society has proven useful.

A few months went by and I settled into a tight, comfortable routine. Since most of my time at the office
was encompassed by menial paperwork and systems related tasks, my life slowly settled into the treacherous
stability that a riskless lifestyle provides. It wasn't long before the boredom started to irk me. While
I have always aimed for a peacful and modest life that allowed me to indulge my time of leisure in whatever
I choose to, my still youthful self was aching for excitement.

By the time I reached my first year as an employee, I was deeply depressed.

One of my colleagues noticed my lack of energy and invited me to join him and the rest of his department to
a small reunion they have every weekend. I immediately agreed.
The company I work for mostly deals with stocks and financial assets, its surprisingly discrete considering
how much cash it manages and the guy that invited me (and the rest of his department) definately lacked the
profile that the company seeks, something I had noticed since I joined. This provided an opportunity to not
only distract myself from my misery, but to finally meet such odd people.

Had I known a priori about the horrors that I would witness with these men, I would've gone back to my empty
life and never bitch about boredom again.

I spent the rest of the week trying to muster the will to not decline the invitation and just drown in my
depression alone. The week went by faster than I thought, the idea of meeting some new people kept me at the
very least entertained.
I accompanied the guy that invited me to the store right after work to grab some beers and protein to grill.
The trip was uneventful until we were heading to his place and he began asking me about my job, his questions
were surprisingly out of place, considering most were about the most obvious aspects of the job. He told me
he was somewhat envious of my position, his was apparently very stressful and had him constantly traveling.

Once we were at his house (which was inexplicably big) we started fixing the grill and opened a pair of
beers. I finally got to sneak in a question between his monologues and he immediately interrupted me.

His mood changed to a stoic seriousness and told me that I couldn't ask job related questions to him or his
yet to arrrive coworkers. His superiors are very secretive about their business and a two of his coworkers
may take offense. He did tell me that they worked directly under the owner, which only raised my curiosity.

A few hours later the rest of his department gradualy arrived. The first guy to do so brought 6 bags of chips
and a tequila bottle along, tall guy, at least 6'3 and with long brown hair and eyes. His appearance proved
to be just that, he was very well spoken and friendly. I actually worked in the same building than him for a
while, he used to be an engieer that worked at the main systems department. He turned out to be one of the
most knowledgeable people I've met, leading me to believe that their department was probably the one in
charge of the CEO's most sensitive information.
>>
By the time they were all there we were all drinking near the grill talking shit. Very outgoing men (despite
their often misleading looks), a couple of them in their 40s, some in their 30s, the rest seemed younger. The
day went on better than expected, despite their endless talking they always kept a very heartfelt and loyal
professionalism.

One of the younger guys turned out to be a friend's cousin that worked for my same department. He had told me
that his cousin received a very sizable promotion and had been doing great, but his family did notice that he
was barely home and when he was, he seemed distant. As some were watching the game he asked me how his cousin
was doing and remained silent for the rest of the night.

The night went on until around 2 in the morning, and after getting home I felt glad I went instead of mopping
alone home. Everything went smoothly the next week, and the guys that worked in my building greeted me every
time thereafter. As the weekend got closer I was invited yet again to watch some game one of the guys liked.
Friday morning I was intercepted by one of the suits around the building's entrance, he presented himself as
a client's "confidant" and requested to see one of my coworkers. Before I could even tell him that he was
definately confusing me with someone else, one of the older guys from the weekend's reunion appeared and asked
the man to follow him.

Later that day I was asked about it by the same guy.
>>
I was told the man that approached me this morning thought I was part of the department, it was possible that
one of the security guards saw me greeting one of the guys at the entrance and told the man so. Other than
that the night was fun. This went on for a few months and I got to learn a lot about these men, one of them
was married with 4 kids, another spoke 7 languages and had a degree in law, the tall guy I met second was
actually a an engineer with a doctorate, and the rest were pro athletes or something around those lines.

Almost a year had passed and I made good friends with all of them. Weekends were at least now something to
look forward to, although I still felt a gaping emptiness in my life. This was eventually what led me to
asking them what it was that they did for a living. Whatever it was it had to be interesting enough for them
to keep doing it despite their impressive resumes, they could probably be doing so much more. I was rather
surprised about how easy I got them to respond, they admited they worked directly under the company's owner
as "personal handymen". A service that, more ofter than not, was required by the owner's friends and partners.

This struck me as something taken out of some shitty anime, what kind of services could they offer when they
come from such a varied and unrelated backgrounds? One of them admited to just being a regular loser with a
passion for fitness and wing-chun. Obviously they were either straight up lying (I wouldn't had
doubted it since they were obviously prepared to answer such a question) or abstracting their actual jobs in
the most generic way they could agree on.
