oh and heres my setups. hammers 8.25 on 139s and iron claw 8.5 on 159s. i usually ride 55s, 101d Formula Fours on the hammers board, and the green wheels on the iron claw are Soft Ds.... those fucking rule for when you need to be quiet.

hammers board was pretty nice, very light feeling, must be that mexican factory glue. the iron claw was dense feeling but still had pop.

As i live in a small city in the Banana Federation of Brazil, we only have parks like Pic related. There's no roller skates or scooters here, but the BMX guys are always fighting with the skaters.

I have a question /esg/, I used to skate a lot as a kid/teenager, and when I was into it, like the widest board people rode was like 7.75-8. I went to my local skateshop last weekend and bought a 7.5 width deck because that's what I used to ride, but now being a just shy of 200 pounds almost 30 year old, the deck feels tiny and flimsy as fuck. did I fuck up? should I just go back and buy an 8.5 or something? the 7.5 deck used to feel just fine, will it go back to feeling normal as I get used to it again?

Getting paid to skate was never a goal of mine. I have a 4.2 college gpa and would not want to rely simply on my own physical capacities to substantiate my income. All the MAJER Crew guys are in Texas I think. They are one of the few stomachable skate channels on youtube, a true rarity. It sounds like you have actual spots to skate if you get kicked out of places so I'm going to guess you don't live in a rural area or some shit. Parking garages, empty parking lots, warehouse areas, behind stores or office buildings...ANYWHERE you can pour crete (just don't get caught).

I've been skating for like 7 years and I'm so disappointed. I don't seem to be getting better, actually I feel like I'm getting worse. I skate all the time and no matter what I always lose my tricks. I find myself repeatedly trying tricks and never landing tricks that I could do four years ago. I did my first kickflip like four years ago and I still don't have them consistently. This is getting so frustrating seeing people at the local park who keep getting better and I keep getting worse. Any advice?

you might never get consistent kickflips. some flip tricks work better for others. one thing that helps is to definitely NOT do the same trick over and over again. i know that sounds stupid when you don't know many tricks, but just focus on doing something, then once you've done it.. cool. you've got it. let it stew in your brain and only bring it out when you need to. if you don't make it, you don't make it. when you force yourself to do something over and over and over it doesn't neccessarily make you better.

remember: they say practice makes perfect. but perfect practice makes perfect. don't put yourself into bad habits by "practicing" something you just bail over and over.

if you get more specific about what tricks you do have and what obstacles you have i could try and offer more advice.

start learning to push switch. can you switch ollie? or try learning just straight nollies, they're retardly easy and fun. i'm sure you can do 180s.... try pivoting them into 360s.

also don't really worry too too much about getting better dude, if you can cruise around and have fun you're golden.

I used to skate a lot about 5 years ago, and always sucked. Went and bought a complete yesterday and am already better than I was. I'm landing shuvits and ollies easy while stationary, which I could never do, even getting really close to heels. But when I start moving I can't do shit. If I land an Ollie, which is always like 1/4 the height I can do stationary, I rotate about a quarter in the air like a tard. Whenever I land a shuvit I also land basically in a nose manual position and it ceases my movement. I want general tips, but mostly concerned about not being able to Ollie at all really while moving. I think that's the root of my problems

For the Ollie who moving I think its really just pop harder amd do the Ollie movements faster than you would when stationary I've found that I can ollie about three boards stacked sideways while going fast but I can't really get near that high stationary.

what do i do now? i'm scared of fliptricks, i can't (pop) shuv it, i can't even get close to 180, my manual always rests on the tail scratching the ground, my switch is clumsy asf, basically I can't do anything else than ollie and I'm hopeless when it comes to all the other tricks.

just roll around doing your ollies. try turning your shoulders as far as you can and do and then launch your ollie, you'll feel 180s start to happen, they're super easy. bail kickflips into the grass. try powersliding the board 180s. you have to build up the 'skate muscles' to some extent so maybe in another month you'll just find that shit comes way easier to you. it just takes time trust me. take your trucks off your board and do shuv its on the carpet. that is one trick that you can totally learn that way, then it works the same way with the trucks back on. i'm sure you'll be able to learn a shuv on carpet, 100% sure.

yeah everyone does that 90 degree turn thing when they are learning ollies. what helped me was to focus on ninja kicking my front foot out. you can already ollie so just focus on exaggerating the front foot "slide". you'll bail them of course, but eventually you will literally begin to feel the front foot bringing the board more than normal. you will literally feel it rising against your back foot. this will not only help you get height, but end the turning issue because you're putting more of your momentum forward.

also watch Mike Mo videos. He really exaggerates the way he puts his shoulders square, squats and brings his arms into his chest, then flings his arms outward parallel to the board. doing this will also prevent you from turning a bit in the air if the front foot thing doesn't help. everyone does this to some degree but i think its most visible in the way Mike Mo skates.

being able to do tricks stationary and moving is totally different, as you can already tell. so don't be afraid to know how to do them stopped but not rolling. even when you're doing them stopped, you're building muscle and muscle memory that will eventually help. but the key to doing flip tricks/anything while rolling is to NOT look at the board or your feet. AT ALL. you have to look where you are going before you pop and while you slide your feet. it sounds crazy but it will eventually work for you. the other reason it works is because when you are not looking at your feet, you are subconsciously just 'doing the motion that makes the trick work'. when you're staring at your feet you're trying to move your feet in a certain way visually, which just doesn't work, no one can control their body like that.

for me i think of it like i'm throwing my trick forward. and i'm looking at where i want to throw the trick TO the whole time. i'm not even looking for the landing really i'm just trying to fling the board and my body to where i'm looking.. and subconsciously it ends up happening. its weird but after you do your first couple you'll see what i mean i think.

oh and one last thing that i know sounds insane: the faster you are going, the easier flip tricks become to flick. i wish i knew why, but it does seem to be true.

Do NOT rely on your skateboard for transportation until you have been skating for at least a few weeks.

wheels aren't gonna be an issue, they don't really break.
If I were you I would get a board size of about 8.25-8.5, something nice and large.
Throw some Reds on there with a rather large wheel and you should be set to go.

landed my first kickflip today after 3 months of trying. landed 2 after that then a double flip on accident. I keep having a problem where I kick too hard and it flips too much for me to catch, also how do I catch the board. I just do the motion and blindly jump and pray I land. If I can get these consistent then I will be satisfied with my skating, been skating for a little over a year.

Do them right.
If you pay attention and really focus, and I mean FOCUS on what you are doing, you should be nailing them in almost no time.
it's about quality muscle memory, not # of times attempted.
Every time you mess up a kickflip, stop and think about what went wrong.
Remember to jump high, and keep your shoulders parallel to the board.
