Kinda. Inside the ring, they're just awesome wrestlers putting on great matches. But outside the ring during the vignettes/movies they do, you'll see Drago perched up on rooftops and sprouting wings, breathing fire and all that shit.

The way Lucha Underground is, it's not like a WWE or TNA show where they make it like an actual sporting event. Lucha Underground is produced like a TV show drama about an underground fight club. It feels more like you're watching a show like Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, whatever. Not like you're watching UFC or a sport.

It's very unique because Lucha Underground knows people are aware wrestling is fake, so instead, they're able to do something really cool with the suspension of disbelief, rather than portraying it as a sport that's real.

I'd highly recommend you watch Season 1.
As >>926508 said, you can enjoy the matches either way, but because of the unique, involved storytelling that really overtly treats itself like a TV Show it makes everything much better if you understand the characters more.
For example, if you watched Season 2 now you'd get an awesome match between Fenix and King Cuerno, but if you watched Season 1 and understood Fenix a little more, how he's a fighting underdog who's taken legitimate setbacks, it'd be a much more involving match and outcome.

TNA was fantastic in 05-06, this is where they peaked.

The booking of Samoa Joe was brilliant, they basically had their own mini version of Goldberg in WCW. Then instead of putting the belt on him they brought in Kurt Angle to end his undefeated streak in his first match.

This was the moment they stopped being a cool alternative to WWE in my opinion.

There were still great matches and shows for a time after this until about 08/09 but I had lost faith, then they became a meme trying to compete with Raw.

They can still salvage him before its too late. First, they can't make him the top guy yet. Im not saying take him out of the main event level, but make him the #2 or #3.
