Hey guys, I'm really interested in getting some boxing training, but I don't know how to go about it.
I've looked locally, but I can't seem to find any gyms, and the one I did find seems to be some run down place in the ghetto.
any help? anything to expect? what's a reasonable price to pay?
I've never been in a fight before and I'm mostly doing this to learn some self defense and discipline.
also, boxing seems pretty cool.

Anyone who does boxing won't be able to overstate the importance of having a good coach during your foundation stages. You'll more than likely do more harm than good if you teach yourself.
Is there a gym that runs a fitbox/boxercise class? I knew a good Muay Thai dude who used to run one at the gym I used to go to so I'd do padwork with him after he wrapped up his Saturday morning class in addition to my twice a week training.
As for price, I don't really know, I used to go to a $6 a session YMCA dealie. Seems crappy but the coach there regularly churned put state level champs, and the training was great. As a result of that I'm a little biased when it comes to what constitutes a reasonable price lol
But that's just my chump change I'm throwing in. Let us know how you go.

Also never discount old run down gyms. Give it a try. See if the coach motivates you, or clicks well with you, if you feel like you're gonna get something out of it. Go with your gut.
