AJ Styles is in the place where you can't let him rise too fast, but people know he has potential to become a huge star right away and hate to see him putter in the midcard. How long will it take to get AJ into the main event scene, and when is Reigns vs. Styles?
>AJ Styles is in the place where you can't let him rise too fast,
Why? New Japan put the IWGP World Title on him in his first match and it worked out best for everybody, including WWE.
>Try eating a meal that wasn't made by McDonald's
He says, while defending Reigns.
>Reigns vs. Styles
Roman's shown that he's too weak to safely take the Styles Clash, so probably never. It's pretty fucking pathetic that a guy they praise as athletic can't hold himself up for a move that Abyss could handle, but that's WWE for you.
>You just admitted that Reigns is a no-talent hack, m8.
It's not a secret. But there's not much point in blaming Reigns for his inadequacies. Under a different regime, he could play a role in the midcard.
>Who else appeals to Vince's fetishes + desire for "mainstream" "acceptance"?
I don't watch NXT, so I'm not sure who they have down there as "the next face of the company". But if you think McMahon is going to change his spots after all these time, you're deluded.
My advice is, if you don't like WWE's product and you still like wrestling, watch a different wrestling show.
I can blame Reigns for sucking as much as I like.
After all: he's just a guy getting rich.
> I don't watch NXT, so I'm not sure who they have down there as "the next face of the company". But if you think McMahon is going to change his spots after all these time, you're deluded.
I don't, but at least you're honest about knowing nothing.
Pic Related is everything Vince says he wants and believes Reigns is.
one has been in the business for a decade and a half. the other has only been in for half a decade and is only in the spot he's in because Vince decided "he's got the look"
I won't defend either mans mic skills but I can at least say AJ has miles and miles of more experience as a wrestling performer than Roman. Additionally I don't intend to mock anyone for defending Roman, I'll just say Roman could do well to go back to nxt and develop his skills all around.
>It's the booking, stupid.
makes me wonder how thick skinned Roman is to take all those boos. Can't help but think he has enough creative control that he could (if he thought it) go to mcmahon and say "I don't think this is gonna work for me."
unless of course this is one of those instances where "is he stupid enough to tel la control freak like vince he's wrong" in which case I could see why Roman would never say he wasn't enjoying himself
>one has been in the business for a decade and a half. the other has only been in for half a decade
And which one is better on the mic? What does that tell you about who to bet the future on?
didn't I say I'm not making any judgement on their mic skills? I never watched TNA or any of AJ's other indie work and wwe's barely let him hold a mic so I have nothing to go on, and Roman can be summed up as "Anti-The Rock"
and I hate the notion that I have to bet the future on a performers Mic Skills. I'm not watching wrestling for the talking, Yeah the catchphrases and the cool promo shit is nice, but at the end of the day I'm watching wrestling for the wrestling.
WHY ARE YOU ALL SO STUPID
HAVE YOU SEEN HOW VINCE BOOKS EVERYONE WHO ISN'T A "WWE GUY" HIS WHOLE CAREER AND YOU THINK AJ IS EVER NOT GOING TO BE A MIDCARDER?
FUCKING DUMBASSES WHO STILL WATCH WWE IN 2016
>he's gonna be a perma-midcarder
he's probably got a a good million pay in his contract considering how big of a deal they made his signing. he has at least A wwe championship reign. I guarantee it
Roman probably doesn't have any creative control. That's pretty high-end stuff in a contract. Not sure how much he's enjoying himself, but the money's good so why sweat it?
>And which one is better on the mic?
Can't compare. Styles was good on the stick at TNA, because they let him express himself. WWE scripts everything into the shitter.
>A real shame that Stone Cold feller wasn't a teen idol
All the references to "stunning" in his gimmicks hark back to Austin's days as "Stunning Steve".
Nobody said anything about being white but that a black champion wouldn't draw well. The Rock doesn't do anything to disprove this because he's not black but a samoan with a touch of african
>Citation Fucking Needed
Junkyard Dog was only #2 babyface in North America despite having Mid-South's vast media machine to prop him up. The people wanted Hulk and that showed through despite Vince's limited resources.
Shit, you said Citation needed, not Sarcasm needed. I'm sorry.
People only like black people in American sports because they want to see really good athletes and the media forces it.
In wwe it's not just athletics but personality, ability to tell a story in the ring, technical ability and mic skills. Very hard to find a proper black who can do these things, carry himself in a way that doesn't look like he's just a thug, and be a reliable enough person backstage to deserve to get put into top positions.
>Hashtags on 4chan
Apollo Crews has face of the company potential, if he can improve on the mic. Which is a big if at this point. He's a big, muscular type who looks good doing power moves, so that should appeal to Vince. But he does flippy shit too, and he's an ex-indie guy so theres neckbeard appeal as well. And he's likeable.
The big negative against him is that he's black, and WWE doesn't have a great history when it comes to black talent.
6'1", 240 lbs. Does spin out powerbomb, delayed vertical and German suplexes, but also does standing moonsaults and shit. He can do a standing shooting star press as well, but he hasn't really used it since coming to WWE.
Big E would have to make a major turn to be taken seriously as a World Heavyweight. He has the body sure, but his silly gimmick plus how heavily tied in with New Day he is means breaking out Solo would require some creative writing
That being said him holding the Heavyweight belt WHILE New Day has the tag belts would be a very interesting circumstance. Too bad New Day needs to drop the belts for awhile because it's getting a bit stale.
The Rock is part black but he clearly is mainly samoan thus is known as a samoan.
I'm not being racist. It's the same as Rusev or something here - he would look like an idiot joke anywhere where the language was actually spoken. Just because Jap fans are convinced by Styles means almost nothing in terms of American fans.
I also think it would be fucking stupid to seriously push a 40+ year old, but that's a separate point.
AJ is actually worse than Reigns on mic, and has about the same amount of "character" (i.e., none).
He is much better in-match, no doubt, but just being good in-match doesn't make a main eventer. It would honestly be pathetic if WWE considered a has-been TNA champion to main event.
When the cops pull him over, he'll turn into a black guy real quick
I like Rusev.
I'm saying that Styles succeeding in Jap wrestling as a member of a foreigner stable is completely inapplicable to WWE.
>getting over in front of American audiences
Anyone can get "over" in TNA. His matches in WWE have been average at best. I don't even dislike the guy, I just have no fucking idea why everyone is shooting their load over him when he hasn't really done jack shit anything in WWE and has no gimmick and no personality and no story.
>Anyone can get "over" in TNA.
lel imagine being this wrong.
>His matches in WWE have been average at best.
Considering that his only opponents have been CringeDad, #SocialJobbers and >MIZ that's hardly on him.
> why is everybody into a guy who's been killing it all over the world since the early 2000s
How can you be this clueless?
>killing it the world over since the 2000s
So no one gives a shit besides turbo-need internet wrestling fags? Why should I give a fuck about that?
Come out with a good gimmick, good promo, and compelling story...otherwise there is no reason to care.
People act high and mighty when you ask but if Big E came out to garth brookes they would be debating why he chose white music for an intro and you`d gert an answer not a bunch of piss baby white people getting offended on behalf of others
Because he's from the South. Some black workers (JYD's the best known) got hugely over in the promotions down there in the late 70s and early 80s, and it's left an imprint on southern wrestling culture. The question about Styles is a bit like asking, "Why did Dusty Rhodes talk like a black guy?"
What you say about the lack of a story is absolutely true. Creative seem to be torn about Styles' gimmick - sometimes they want to just make his gimmick the "International Ace" (not the best face packaging), sometimes that's blended with a never-say-die redneck gimmick. To be honest, I think they're branding him as the second coming of He Who Shall Not Be Named. Promos, frankly, are a lost art at the WWE. Even Heyman doesn't exactly rock the mic there.
But despite all that, AJ has been getting good crowd reactions. So if, as you say, the only people who give a shit about his international work are turbo-need internet wrestling fags, that description would apply to WWE's main audience...
Gonna throw my opinion in here, I don't know shut about AJ Styles except for watching TNA a few years ago and he was like Ric Flairs prodigy or something, I know he was big in the Indies and Japan but I've never watched those Japanese promotions, everything I've heard about Bullet Club has been on the internet. Same with Finn, Owens, Itamu, Asuka and Nakamura, I knew of them but never saw them until their debut in WWE.
As far as AJ is concerned I was really happy to see him debut mainly because I've heard a lot about him and saw the ifd interview while browsing wrestling stuff on YouTube but I was basically excited to see a new face join the roster, especially a talent labeled as one of the best wrestlers in the world, I was anticipating his debut in excitement too see what he's going to bring to WWE and so far he's delivered, his much skills need work but his wrestling speaks for itself, he's phenomenal to watch.
WWE babbies getting pissy over somebody watching more wrestling than their entry-level children's program will never stop being funny.
>Come out with a good gimmick, good promo, and compelling story...otherwise there is no reason to care.
Why the fuck do you watch WWE if you want any of those things?
The most compelling story they've told in the last 15 years was an ACCIDENT from their own incompetence!
are you implying he did the gay things with jbl? because that is pretty much confirmed 100% true knowing JBL did gay shit to edge and the hardy boys, and vince having a boner for body builders
