Don't try growing a storebought rose. They require crazy pesticides. Get a good type for your area instead.

But if really serious, change the water daily, and keep rootzone dark. Cut loose the bloom asap.

Just thought it'd be a cool expiriment, considering I got it for my fiancé for V-day. I'm okay with it dying would just like to try anyways. So I should keep the end of the stem dark and cut off the little green sprout?

Umm, they shouldnt require anymore pesticides than your average rose there really is no difference. I would pull the flower cut stem at angle below new growth. Dip in rooting powder. Stick in very damp soil for 3 weeks in a humid environment. hope like crazy. I've never seen this happen
