While you guys are at it: I took this picture of a shrub-sized plant in flower. Temperate climate in late-spring early summer (if that info helps).

Any ideas?

We had a bunch of these growing up. My dad worked with fish and wildlife and said they jokingly referred to them as "damn yellow composites" because there are several dozen species that all look more or less exactly the same.

While we're IDing plants, can anyone tell me what this is? We always just called them "biddy-bids" but there are a number of different plants that get called that here. Basically anything with a burr that gets stuck to your clothes can be a biddy-bid, so I want to know what it really is. It doesn't look like any of the actual classified piripiri, which seem to be mostly shrubs. This is kind of a ground-creeper.

They get the burrs in summer. Later in the season, the burrs go brown and hard and that's when they stick to everything and hurt, but they're soft when they're still green.

North Island, New Zealand.
>>
>>2033579
probably some kind of Senecio sp, finding the exact species is going to make you rage.
>>2033724
looks like Hypericum based on the flower, never seen one with black leaves though so it's probably Hypericum x hidcoteense.
>>
>>2033807
Say it with me...I DONT KNOW
>>
>>2033816
I do know.

I just can't pinpoint the exact species from these pictures.
>>
>>2033733
Look up the weed called Black Medic. The leaves and description look just like it. Teeny tiny yellow flower?
>>
>>2033733
can you take a picture of the entire plant?

it's proving to be a pain in the ass to identify.
>>
>>2033579
It could be in the ranunculaceae (buttercup) family, but I'm not sure what genus or species.

It also might be part of the ambrosia genus (in asteraceae), but the stems may be too thick for ambrosia.

You should take a picture that displays the petals more and reproductive structures. Closer and clearer.

Try looking at plant ID guides specifically ones in your region.

>>2033724
Knowing the location, leaf pattern (alternate, compound, or simple) is mighty helpful too. I agree with >>2033807.
>>
>>2034018
I can try, but there's a lot of crap in the spot where it's at because no one's weeded the cinderblocks in ages, so there'll be other plants in the shot too.

It does have some teeny tiny yellow flowers, not many, but they don't look like the tiny flower clusters on the Black Medick I'm finding on search results, and I can't find anything about burrs.

Maybe it's a relative?

Here's the whole thing. I think there are others elsewhere on the section, but I'm not sure where. The dog is always picking the burrs up in his tail, though, and if they were only in this one spot, he'd have a harder time of collecting them.

Also, here are some hardened burrs. The ones that get in your clothes and on pets and hurt.
>>
>>2034105
Wait, nevermind. Following some convoluted Google searching, I have discovered that it's burclover.

Same genus as Black Medic.
>>
>>2034107
pretty sure it isn't a native plant.

kill it before it lays eggs.

I spent some time attempting to identify it before posting here, but I'm unfamiliar with the terminology and methods and as such was unsuccessful. I did find a few ID sites that gave examples or explained some of the characteristics, but they didn't prove very helpful.

I suppose I'm mainly concerned with it being a weed and possibly threatening the roses, but I've gone through listings of local noxious and invasive weeds and haven't seen anything resembling it close enough.

Here is another picture, nonetheless.
>>
>>2034164
'damn yellow composites' is actually the official name for these types of plant.

they all look alike.
>>
>>2033459
>>2033579
This is definitely a Euryops of some kind. My best guess is that it's Euryops pectinatus, based mostly on its availability as a garden plant.
>>
>>2034173
that has me confused because judging from that post it seems to be growing as a wild plant, but it's native to like south africa.

since when do they reproduce outside of their comfort zone.

shit that's it.
thank you anon

>>2034176
It very well could have been placed there intentionally.
>>
>>2034121
Yeah, it looks like it originally comes from the Mediterranean. I guess someone introduced it here way back when and now it's just a common weed.
>>
>>2034258
did you kill it yet?
>>
>>2034315
Ripped up what could be found, but there were a lot of loose brown burrs about, so it'll be back next year.
