My cat became very critical all of a sudden and there doesn't seem to be much hope. I had her dna stored and will proceed to clone her in a few years. I know I won't get her back but a genetic copy and to me this is important because she was spayed and has no bloodline and I feel like she should have some genetic place in the world. After researching it though there seems to be a divide on the subject. Has /an/ ever considered cloning their pet?

Completely and utterly retarded. There is plenty of other cats you'd love just as much, if not more.

Cloning in general is fucking stupid unless it's for organs or bringing back awesome prehistoric animals but even then it's a 'just because we could' situation since there isn't enough genetic diversity to keep it from going to shit. Cloning because 'muh pet/family' screams mental illness.
>>

The process itself is not THAT hard to do, at least if you work in that field or studied molecular biology or genetics or something and you know what you are doing.

BUT it works about 1/500 tries and for every try you need a new Oocyte from the surrogate mother as well as a new Nucleus from your cat's cells (from any cell, but make sure the DNA in this cells is undamaged

You also need a pretty good genetics lab, not one of those half-serious ones.
And if you never have worked in a genetics lab before, don't even try it

Hey /an/, I'm broke lately because of how much it costs to feed my cats. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to get a bird feeding cage, keeping it low to the ground and letting the cats hunt for a while? There are a lot of birds in the area and my four cats are pretty good at catching them but I'd imagine they would be able to be able to life happy and healthy on prey alone with a little help.

My mother has a ton of spare bird feed and I do throw out corn or nuts I haven't used so I have plenty of feed for them, would this work? My cats are already outdoor cats so they know how to hunt.

Just toss peanuts all over your yard maybe with a little pool of water your cat might be able to get squirrels and stuff.

Honestly even dollar store cat food would be better and more affordable for your cats than the risk of having to shell out thousands to get bones or parasites from feral birds out of their system

>>pit bulls are mean, aggressive, viscous dogs
Doesn't look like a real pitbull tbph. If it's a real pit it will be dog aggressive even if you try to train it not to be. Pitbulls and other fighting dogs were bred to be DOG aggressive. Anyone who knows anything about pitbulls or fighting dogs in general is aware of the difference between dog aggressive, general aggression and human aggression
>>
>>2439978
As long as you raise her with love and affection, and socialize her properly with other dogs you have nothing to worry about.

You get a one-use genetic chimerization kit, letting you create a new organism that combines any features from already existing non-human lifeforms in any way you choose. For example, you could make a winged snake with the temperament of a dog that reproduces like a chantarelle. What do you make?

Have you tried closing him off to the area where he pisses? Does he pee on soft things? Honestly there's a plethora of problems that could be attributing to litter box problems. This site has addressed a ton of potential issues and their fixes, probably the biggest list on peeing issues in cats that I've seen.

We did yesterday he just pissed in an empty box near the door. The guest room where this is happening is near the back yard and ton of cats are around the area. I wonder if adding a second box for him to mark in would help. Thanks for the link.

Hey, catfags, this cat showed up outside my apartment a few days ago, maybe half a year old, bony as hell, if I feed it a little bit, will it eventually learn to fend for itself? or should I just go after it with a shovel right away?

Anyone here have experience with Harley rats? Hear they have a lot of difficulties when it comes to breeding but don't know in terms of just being a pet. Only thing I worry about is temperament because I have other rats, and sure I'd prefer to avoid medical costs. Can't find much info since they're a newer challenging breed. I just can't get over that coat.

Also curious about Roan/Huskies if you have any info about those.

USA or UK?
I've never seen a roan rat in the US. Last time I checked we had two harley breeders but both stopped breeding years ago and I haven't seen or heard of any since.
>>
>>2446145
US. I'm in the midwest where the Seoul virus was found, so not a lot of options in my area. Have to go to another state but have seen some Roans and Harleys for sale.

I've been warned that Harleys are only bred by amateur or unethical breeders because of the issues with the lines making them not worth breeding. A big one being lactation problems so I can see how that poses a problem. But how would they change these traits if they're not being bred you know?
>>
>>2446147
Hearing they have lactation issues reminds me of hairless rats. You don't breed hairless to hairless, but furred female to hairless males. Half the litter is usually hairless. Hairless females tend to not lactate or are all around horrible mothers. I suppose you'd do the same with harleys.

I'm sure you read this already but here. This was one of the breeders i mentioned. She hasn't updated in years so I have no idea if she is still breeding but she might answer an email. I've actually gotten rats from her before that were healthy and lived longer than average lives.

What are the chances I'd find a new species of animal if I started looking at pond/lake/river water?

How many undiscovered microorganisms are out there? Are there any efforts to even classify these little guys?

I always thought it was fascinating to see all the different bugs and such inside of seemingly clear water, and I've been thinking about starting to examine water samples. I'm just not sure if it would be a good idea go record data on what I find, in case I do stumble across an interesting weird water creature?

New species are found all the time. Give it a go. The main problem is the description and cross-referencing it with existing descriptions. There are all sorts of new discoveries that have been discovered long ago. We need a proper online database for this shit.
>>
You put a drop of pondwater under a microscope, look around until you see one microorganism that looks different from the rest, and then what? How do you go about identifying it when it's hard enough to identify a bug you find in your house or a plant growing by the side of the road?

I know recent pet deaths are a little overdone here, but an anon asked me to post updates. Unfortunately test results came back positive for an aggressive form of cancer that had already moved to other parts of her body. Put her down today, but fortunately the vet could come to my home so she was comfortable on her favorite spot on the couch. Hopefully the theists are right so we can shitpost together again one day. Cheers, /an/.

Shrimpers are too afraid of horses to bother them. Come to think of it, a lot of average guys are scared of horses.

These charro spics in Colorado have a goddamn hatred for horses even worse than the one they have for dogs, though, and they're p shrimp tier.
