Are some cats just untrainable cunts?
I had a cat in the past who was fucking wonderful. He never misbehaved and could do basic tricks (sit, down, fetch, etc)
I have two cats currently that I can't teach a fucking thing to. The only thing I really want them to learn is not to dive for food the second it's in their reach. My dogs learned "wait" after just a few minutes. It's been two fucking months and my cats still claw the fuck out of me when I set there food down. I have to spend up to 30 minutes pushing them away from the bowl before they give up. Then next time I feed them it's back at square one.
Teaching sit is just as painful since they are more interested in sinking their claws in my hand to get the food then actually thinking about what I want them to do. I see why people hate these fucking animals.
>he fell for the cat meme
they are universally shit animals
>>2321223
They're not shit animals, they're just not pets.
a lot of cats chill out as they get older. I've had a tortoise shell cat for years and they are notorious cunts. spends most of the day outside hunting moles and birds and all that and comes in at night to sleep. Your cats might just have too much pent up energy
Is anything I can do about my dogs shedding besides brushing?
I'm afraid not, regular brushing is the best you can do and I'm sure your dog loves it
>>2321146
I do it regularly, i just hate having to clean up the hair if I bring him inside
>>2321136
No. Don't get an animal with fur if it's a huge problem for you
My partner and I have been looking to adopt a dog for a couple of months. We eventually found a small puppy that we both like up for adoption in Kentucky and we live in New Jersey. if we went with this puppy we would not be able to meet her beforehand as she would be transported to us in 2 weeks. From what I've read it seems like a lot of rescue dogs come from the rural south and it's not unusual for them to be shipped up to rescues in the north.
Has anyone ever adopted a puppy this way before? Are there red flags we should watch for? What questions should I be asking?

Just link the rescue website that is shipping the dog.
here is their website http://kyrescueltd.yolasite.com/
why do you want to pay 300 + shipping for a lab mix
How do I find a "good" cat?
About 90% of cats I encounter are mean pieces of shit that bolt away from you the moment they see you and only want food. But the other 10% are nice bro cats that will come up to you and let you pick them up and pet them and shit. And I'm not talking just cats I see roaming the streets, these studies include my grandma's several cats over the past couple of decades and other various people's house cats.
It's Peter!
if it's your cat it will like you.
It's all about their environment when they are kittens. A safe environment with familiar faces makes for a good cat. They're just sketchy by nature and don't really accept new people or pets unless they go through their vetting process and deem them safe.
Are cats and dogs capable of any sort of intelligent/sentient thoughts? Or are all their thoughts just instincts which they have no control over?
The term you're looking for is sapience. To answer you, yes. Anyone who spends enough time around animals can tell they clearly display free will and thought, it's just that they're too stupid to achieve a level of intelligence that humans have. With that said, animals do rely on their instincts far more than we do as a result of their low intelligence.

Is mental degredation a thing dogs commonly go through?
I swear to God our dog is starting to lose it. She's 12 years old so shes definitely an old dog.
But it started with her repeatedly trapping herself in the laundry room. She figured out how to open it, but then would repeatedly shut herself inside and be stuck until one of us found her. And half the time we'd know she'd gotten stuck because we'd hear her whining inside so its not like she wanted to be there.
And more recently she has started knocking down the gate at night that we keep her in the kitchen with. In all her years, she's never done this before yet now its a daily occurence. Its not like she's trying to explore, she doesn't try to run outside anymore when she gets the chance and I'm not sure she ever actually sleeps at night anymore.
So yeah, I'm pretty sure my dog is losing her mind. Also for some reason whenever she gets out, she runs straight for my dad's office and pees on the carpet. Every time.
Pic ain't her
Dogs get dementia just as commonly as people do.
>>2320472
Definitely. Dogs will go senile. I knew a dog that had to take medicine to sleep in her old age because when it got dark she'd stay up all night barking at a couch and then never sleep during the day. Some weird shit. It's mostly just wandering around aimlessly like a person with Alzheimer's, but sometimes there is weird behaviors too
They can, but they can also get hearing and/or sight loss which can lead them to be confused in some situations.

Three of my eleven chickens were dead when I went to lock them up for the night. They looked healthy this morning and they weren't attacked by an animal. What the fuck happened to my chickens?
Sounds like you've got a chupacabra on your hands.
>>2318908
A chronic deprivation of animal control.
>>2318908
>weren't attacked
don't be so certain. minks are great at leaving lifeless chickens with no signs of struggle or injury
Our landlord has agreed to let us get a small dog. We asked if a cocker spaniel sized dog would be okay, and they said yes, so they do not mean Pomeranian small, but upper range small is okay too.
We are open to adopting a staffordshire bull terrier, but we have no idea if they count as a small (obviously upper range small) dog. We cannot email and ask as if we say "is a staffie alright?" they'll do what everyone does and shit their pants that we're getting a pitbull and say no.
So guys, what do you think, is a Staffordshire bull terrier a small dog?
>>2320905
I wouldn't get any "aggressive breed" without explicit permission from the landlord.
I also wouldn't be surprised if they also just didn't know the actual size of a cocker spaniel, and they did mean toy small dog.
>>2320905
Well I think you know the answer OP. The whole reason you asked was to see if you could keep a dog, but you know they wouldn't accept the dog anyway. Staffies are medium size anyhow.
>>2320907
You shouldn't get ANY dog without running it through your landlord, regardless of how small it is.
what is my cat's breed?

Hey /an/, /k/ regular here. I have a GSD that is getting picky with her food. I have had her on Fromm Heartland Gold-Large Breed Puppy for a long time now, ever since she was about 3 months old (she is a little over a year old now, 14 months to be exact) but she hasn't been eating well the past few weeks. She never really ate regularly, she would graze on her bowl throughout the day and night, despite being on a strict ration (currently 4 cups a day) to help ward off any later dysplasia. Recently she has been eating about half of her daily ration, if that. She hasn't seemed to have lost much weight yet from that, but I assume it's time to switch up her food since she acts hungry with treats.
My question, what other food should I try out in lieu of the Fromm? I have another GSD puppy right now, and I would prefer them to eat the same food for logistical sake, so something large breed puppy specific would be nice. I'd like to keep a similar quality of ingredients to the food, and keeping it the same price would be nice as well (about $60 for a 25# bag)
Thanks in advance!
>>2320969
Take her to the vet and get her teeth checked out before you waste money on more food.
>>2320973
Anything specific I should ask about? Mostly so I don't show up at the vet saying "Hurr cud u check puppo's tooths?"
Like would the thought be some kind of toothache causing her to not want to eat or what?
My GSD-mutt was like that. Vet told me she's just being a bitch and she ain't gonna starve herself. So I just took away her food after like half-hour if she didn't eat. Anyway, her appetite picked up after buying another pup. Idk if it was psychological or if it's all the playing they do now. I just buy cheap shit from wholesale clubs, switching brands every couple months when I run out. Since you're buying premium food, maybe check with a vet first.
Thinking of getting a fennec fox for a pet. Anyone have one? Advice? I've researched the hell out of them but would like to chat with someone who actually owns one.
I have a small apartment, but can allocate a good chunk of a room for it's living area when I'm not home.
How much do you make? I believe foxes require a vet that specializes in exotic pets and that can get really expensive.
>>2320954
Why do you want one?
I hope some faggots don't come in here spewing the "it's a wild animal therefore it will be 100% impossible to keep and it will kill your mother and rape your father!" meme. The whole "it's a wild animal" thing gets grossly exaggerated. It may be true for shit like lions and tigers, but there are some animals that are easily tamable and can make decent pets.
Pictured is my basil plant. I transplanted it 3 days ago as it was originally in a diy kit and many of the leaves seemed to be turning yellow (as the soil probably had crappy drainage due to the size it has grown). None of the leaves are yellowing now, but they are definitely drooping a little. Their texture feels lively though (not sagging)-they just aren't as perky toward the sun as they were before the transplant. Is this normal?
looks fine. basil is a finnicky transplant in terms of how it looks. It's thin stem, big fat heavy leaves. I wouldn't freak out. You could prune it back, which is what I would do on a basil transplant.
>>2320737
Good to know. I've never transplanted anything before, and I'll look into pruning it. Even though it's just a plant, I've grown kind of attached to it and want it to do well, lol. Really appreciate your help with this!
>>2320740
No problem. It basically has a bunch if growth nodes just waiting to branch out after pruning. Removing some of the greens up top reduces stress on the root system which has been tossed around a bit. It's an OK rule of thumb for many plants that have a similar growth habit.
