So my fucking garden is full of this little shits. They regularly enter the house and eat whatever they find digestible. If i apply poison and kill the queen in the nest will it fuck up the ecosystem of the garden (by fucking up i mean maybe other insects will proliferate)?
>>2330967
I've seen people poor liquid aluminium down their nests, and it creates a wonderful casting. If you want some cool art, and don't mind melting a bunch of baby ants, this would probably be a pretty cool, non-toxic way of dealing with the issue.
>>2330975
I'm going to use a ant killing gel. My question is if the elimination of the ants will cause other insects to multiply and cause damage to the garden.
>>2331019
Thats not how it works, unless your neighbors are literally swarming with insects. Ants are not devouring 100% of the nutrients In your yard

My pet rabbit just died. Cheer me up

From the looks of its diet, i'm not surprised it's dead.

Nothing should be fed raw potato peelings. Too risky.
Do lizards feel anything? My parents inherited a leopard gecko from my uncles step kids a long time ago and he's been somewhat neglected in recent months. It's never had a huge amount of human contact and I've had to yell at them in the past about keeping its cage in front of a drafty window (my parents live in New Brunswick and winters are pretty cold).
My parents are garage pet owners and this is pretty consistent with how they've treated dogs, cats and chickens we've had in the past. Basic needs are met, but there's no love; in the case of dogs there was no training; water dishes for everything were just topped up and rarely cleaned.
Tl;dr should I rescue this lizard from my shitty parents

*garbage pet owners
>>2329377
first, it really doesn't look like needs are met for that lizard. I don't think leopard geckos should be that this, and is that all stuck shed on the torso?
second, no it doesn't need human love. if it's not a baby anymore, then it would probably be hard to get it enjoying human company now anyway.
it still feels stress and pain though, so I would help it if you've done research on know how to take care of it.

Here's an interesting idea to do that I found off a random GIS search.
Anyone else got pics of animals of any sort making a break.....

If you are vegan you are not only wasting animals but ruining the planet and peoples employment.
cool story bro
>>2328983
Stating facts is not a story.
A story goes like
One day a vegan stopped eating meat, the local butcher lost work and the vegan became unhealthy and started showing tin foil hat tier videos of about Animal cruelty on face book.
The vegan made the world a worse place for Animals and Humanity. The end.

hey guys, i'm interested in starting a little water garden of sorts, fishbowl-ish in size. getting algae seems simple enough, but i'd like to have critters like snails or maybe even shrimp or something. my problem is i don't know how compatible individual critters and algae are together, so i cant just load up a bowl with everything i want...
what are some good, super low maintenance creatures i can put in a garden? whats a good place to start in terms of algae, is what im doing even feasible? one of the things i thought about getting is marimo but i dont know if itd be eaten up?
I'm also curious about this. I want to put some water features in my home but don't want to be that cruel person that tosses a betta and guppy schools in a little vase.
What are some, if any, life I can put in vases or small aquariums? What are some pretty plants to fill?
Also it's my birthday so it's party time.

Invert General
Here we talk about invertebrates as pets. Whether it's hermit crabs, tarantulas, scorpions, etc, it's welcome here. ,
Come here to post your inverts, ask questions, and just have a jolly ol time.
>>2323551
As someone who's never kept tarantulas before but has almost 10 years of experience with diverse other inverts (including 5 years of centipede experience) what species would you recommend?
There's just this overwhelming number and going through them one by one would be extremely time consuming.
Keeping conditions should not be a problem, I know how to to temps, humidity, substrate and so on. Fast and aggressive species also shouldn't be a problem, can't be worse than some of the pedes I have.
I'd want something a little more active. During the day or at night doesn't matter, I watch my animals mainly at night anyway, red LEDs are great for that and I assume tarantulas can't see red like everything else I've owned. Or, in case all tarantulas are as passive as I think they are, how about something stunningly pretty instead?
>>2323559
if you're looking for activity, I'd recommend a curly hair tarantula (Brachypelme albopilosum). Those guys are little bulldozers.
If you wanna crank it up a notch and put your invert keeping skills to more of a test, Lasiodora parahybana might be your choice. Many are docile, but they can be skittish and even a little aggressive.
>>2323559
Poecilotheria metallica are fancy, if you don't mind something fast and skittish.

I got myself a dozen of althaea officinalis (english name is marshmallow i guess ?) seeds and got them waiting for germination, wish me luck.

It's really sad, Dionaea are set for the same fate as axolotls, extinct in the wild but surviving thanks to hobbyists. BTW mine are starting to wake up, except for these because I kept them wiith a shade cloth.
Winter dormancy party is over. Brother confirmed my purpurea is starting to grow again. Good thing ssp. venosa isn't a heavy sleeper

Bros I'm getting legit scared now. The latest he had come back was about 10 am, he always comes back in the early morning. I've looked around my block several times, calling his name.
I know that cats are like this and then one day they just stroll in like nothing had happened, but this isn't like him.
Wat do? I love that cat, I rescued him when he was an abandoned kitten in a park and has grown to be my only friend.
i hope it got hit by a car and is nearly, but not quite, dead
>>2330089
Yeah he's dead I was at home when that happened to my moms cat. Nothing like that tension as you wait for 48 hours and nothing still happens
my friend is a vet tech and keeps making me feel bad for buying a second pug puppy. How do I make her stop

this, even if it's a troll. boston terrier owner here and it makes me want to kill myself when people tell me she's cute. She's cute on the inside, but I really wish my dog wasn't going blind and unable to breathe.

I should clarify that it's still fucked up to support breeding them. Rescue one --
plenty of people get rid of them after they either get bored or can't afford the 6,000 dollar surgery to open their airways.
I texted her asking a question about his eye because he's rubbing it a lot and it's really watery and stuff and the breeder won't return our calls. She kinda blew up at me though
