A skinny, dirty kitten started hanging around my home about 6 months ago. I fed it a couple of times and when it looked like it was going to be a more permanent resident, I took it to the vet to see if it had a microchip and belonged to anyone. No chip so I registered it, paid for it's shots and de-sexing and brought it home.

He is now a tubby jerk who steals food, beats up my older, smaller female cat and he bites people. Normally little play bites but when he gets riled up he will wrap himself around your arms or legs then bite and scratch hard.

He is mostly pretty chill and low maintenance, does his own thing, but once or twice a day he just goes full psycho. He also doesn't purr. I've never had a cat be this aggressive and anti-social before. People have suggested I get rid of him but I don't throw out family members. How do I tame this vicious beastie?

Clean bill of health from the vet, did bloods and all.

Just an asshole.
>>
Feral or partferal cats are usually assholes. Asshole behaviour is rewarding in the wild.

Love your little killer
Or maybe try keeping him indoors-only for a while to force him to socialise/chill out. He'll be mad af at first and it may not work or not be viable but it could do him good. Just make sure you play with him a lot.

I need some hivemind advice and help, please.

Friday night, my 10 year old cat was displaying signs of distress, didn't seem to want to stretch out, was very hesitant to walk, would cry out in pain if we tried to handle her. I also found bloody urine in her litterbox.

My wife and I were very worried about internal bleeding, or some other horrible emergency. We took our cat to the 24 hour emergency vet.

The vet on call ordered bloodwork, x-rays, and a UA on the cat. X-Ray came back clear, no problems with any bones/joints in her hind legs, no stones in the kidneys or bladder. Bloodwork came back normal as well.

Cat was kept overnight for observation and to attempt to collect urine.

Saturday, urine was collected, cat apparently showed positive for an active UTI. I was allowed to pick up my cat around 1pm and was told she was given a shot antibiotic that would last for 12 days in her system, given a shot pain medication, and sent home with 2 more days worth of pain meds.

Today, 5am, I was woken up by the sound of my cat crying in pain. I got up and checked on her (we have a recovery area set up, small bed/blanket, food/water, litterpan nearby). Found a large puddle of urine under my desk, some blood in it still (hard to tell because it went into the carpet). Cat is very interested in her food/water, seems alert, but still appears to be in a lot of pain, still is not walking right(she will not stretch out to her full length, I'm assuming due to pain in the bladder region).

This cat has never been sick, and I've never seen her in pain. I've never dealt with a UTI before, and I have no idea how long it's going to take for her to start feeling better.

I feel awful for her, I'm worried, and I just want to know what else to do to help her. If she's not improved by tomorrow I'm taking her back in to her normal vet...

Take her to your normal vet as soon as you can.

A lot of 24 vets are cowboys and don't know your pet's history so they just go with a quick fix.
>>
>>2342876
I'm planning on it, sadly my vet is not open on Sundays, going to bring her in tomorrow. I'm glad that she's very interested in food/water and keeps having 'output'. She's also alert and interested in things.
>>
Fucking 24 hour emergency vet gave my damn cat Cerenia (used to treat vomiting) instead of an antibiotic.....god dammit, I just noticed it on her invoice. I'm calling them now and trying to get this straightened out. No wonder she's not improving.

it seems to do some twitching with its head and its wings are also twitching most of the time, i got it to calm down in my hand for a while but its started twiching again and looks at me.
>>
>>2342778
First of all, try getting it a box. Something to contain it in and calm it down. If you have no aspen bedding then put down a shirt or a towel you don't want and use it as bedding. If you want, try to put down a plastic container full of bottled water. And a dish of either parakeet food or dog food for it to eat inside the box if you have any. Even pieces of bread big enough for the pigeon to fit in its mouth would work. It sounds like it might've been attacked by a bird or cat or have Paramyxovirus or chlamydia. It'd be best to leave it alone in a nice warm cozy box until a veterinarian is available. It should be fine.

The correct answer is those penis fencing nubibranches, anglerfish, or those beetles with the penis that destroys the female so badly her entire reproductive tract heals shut.

Seriously? He misses his bros. Let him visit them again or find him some new bros.
>>

Cats hate change. You're lucky he is only complaining and didn't stop using his litterbox too.
Just give him lots of consistency and a strict routine and he'll go back to normal in a few weeks. Getting another cat is just going to make things worse.

Hey /an/.

Question for the fish people.

My aunt decided my little cousin wasn't allowed to have her fish anymore. She wasn't responsible enough. Besides the fact my aunt is a shitty person expecting a 5 yr old to understand proper aquarium maintence, I was given the fish.

I have little knowledge but I know they need to be cycled, fed and housed in a few gallons compared to the tiny plastic filterless trap my aunt had them in.

There are three danimo tetra and one make half moon.

They were "tank" mates before.
So I kept them together. The tetra seem to leave the betta and his fins alone and the betta doesn't care about the tetra in the slightest.

Anyways.

I upgraded it from a tiny critters keeper to a ten gallon, filtered, and heated.

I don't want real plants as I've heard having and eco tank with a ten gallon is really hard for noobs.

Besides a bubbler (which is coming in the mail). Is there anymore I need?

I breed meal worms so I've been giving those to the betta (really small hatchlings that I kill before feedong) and the tetra pick at them too.

Filter is a tetra whisper 20.
Heater is also tetra, 50w heater.

To add I've had the fish for over a month now. While the tank cycled and did its thing. I used some of my friends aquarium water to help start things out (she walked me through the process and helped me out with nitrates and ammonia etc., again I'm not too sure what it all means I've been researching more).

I just want to know what more i need besides a bubbler.

Do pets wonder what humans are doing sitting in front of a flat screen for hours?

How about when we go out, especially when it comes to pets that have never left the house - where do they think we're going? Do they have the concept of a greater world outdoors? Or would it be similar to humans trying to imagine where someone goes after crossing the edge of the Universe?

How about when you give them baths, put on silly clothes, make them do funny things and film to post on the Internet? They don't feel threatened, but they are also not aware of what's going on, so why do they passively accept being toyed with? Would it fit in the same category as being cuddled or something?

I'm sure they don't exactly get curious or ponder about this stuff, but they must have some pseudo-logical conclusion as to what its owners are doing/where they are so they can function inside a group.

yeah it's a weird thing to think about. scientists who study cats have theorized that when your cat brings prey home and leaves it for you to find, they're doing so because they've noticed that you never hunt and are worried that you will go hungry, which shows they do have enough sentience to observe your activities and interpret them (to a degree).

as for dogs, I don't fucking know, they're a lot stupider and are generally okay with anything if they or their owners aren't being hurt.
>>
I've always wondered if animals understand the idea of clothes, or at least recognize that clothes aren't a real part of a human's body.
>>
>>2342396
my cat used to be obsessed with cotton shirts and would always lick your shirt whenever he was happy and being cuddled, yet he would never lick your skin. meanwhile an earlier cat we had was obsessed with licking skin but would never lick clothes.

cats are the weirdest animals on the planet

I'm going to be flying across country soon and taking my cat with me. I've never flown before, much less with a cat, so I'm wondering if any anons have advice on how to make the process easier for the both of us.

I'm taking Alaska Airlines, and I'll be carrying the pet in the cabin with me. It'll be about a five hour flight with no connection. I'm mostly worried about him panicking and making a lot of noise, or pissing or shitting in his kennel during the flight.

because you're a human and perceive things from a human point of view.

They only "look" stupid because your brain associates them with stupid expressions humans make.

How do I introduce my cat to a new kitten?

She's very territorial, doesn't get along with any of the neighbors' cats. I'm only doing this because my other cat (I adopted them together) has gone missing for a week and it looks like he won't come back, and I'd hate to leave her alone all day.

>>
>>2342288
What do you mean by "lost"?

He was borderline feral, always sneaking out of the house somehow. I'm pretty sure a crazy neighbor poisoned him or something. It was bound to happen sooner or later. Not that it matters now.

My mom's getting a dog, a Yorkshire Terrier. She also spends ten hours a day at home, eight of which are asleep.

So guess who will be expected to come over every day to take care of her? I'll give you a hint, his name is OP.

What am I in for? How bad are these guys to care for?
17 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2342092
They are really easy to care. You will like it OP
But they get really bitter without socialization. NOT good with kids or really old people

As a pup. You have to be careful not to step on them
Every yorkie I know is extremely aware of feet because as a pup they always got hurt by them (not on purpose though)
They don't need lots of excercise and are really easy to train
Smart kind of dog not stupid.
Good companions.
>>
If you treat a yorkie like any dog... socialize it right, exercise, give it training and mental stimulation... they can be charming little dogs.
>>
>>2342096
>>2342132
Okay, here's the problem.

I hate dogs. I can't stand them. I don't want to train it, I don't know how to socialize it or take care of it, god damn it I don't want to do this and I don't know how but I also can't let the little fucker just become all fucked up because my mom's an idiot.
