Only the strangest, most bizarre creatures are allowed in this thread. All others will have to answer to the living rock monster.

So thats what those crazy bastards in Miami were trying to sell me. Good thing I trusted my racially tuned instincts.
Never trust foreigners. Or foreign food. Or foreign customs. Or foreign culture.
Unless they are German, of course. No German ever tried to feed me sea monsters.
Or run my banks.
What does /an/ think about people who find pleasure in torturing/killing defenseless animals?
>>2343077
If it's a pug like the one in your pic, OP, then it's totally fine to do.
I hate anyone who does it. my brother used to torture and kill my pets when I was little.

What are some /an/ related things you've made? Not necessarily pet stuff specifically, just any DIY things.

How tasteful. I assume its safe. Hopefully its sustainable so he can develop a calm sense of routine when thirsty. Id hate for him to have such a nice relaxation stop just to eventually have to lose it to a common dish later. Not that I know if cats would notice such things consciously. But it seems like it would be nice and taken in on an emotional level. I find decor does a lot for morale.
I crumble up paper and foil for the cat to bat around.

reminds me of honey bees, which environmentalists have been saying are "going extinct" since at least the 1940's despite their populations increasing by orders of magnitude over the same time period.
>>2341860
I never understood the honeybee meme either. I think it was just some controlled study for political purposes because "save the honeybees" is almost always related to political protests and stuff.

How practical would it be to keep a dog in the post apocalypse? Any one, zombie, nuclear, anarchist, etc.
It would be awesome to have a big strong one to help you find food and attack zombies (implying animals are immune from becoming zombies like in TWD) and bandits who fuck with you, but then you run the risk of being swarmed by 20 zombies or a party of cannibals if he freaks out at a stray cat or squirrel.
>>2341476
depends on whether it's trained or not. some family golden retriever probably won't be much more than emotional support.
>>2341476
I'd eat a neighbour before I eat my dog.
>>2341489
OP, here. Take up fishing or hunting, then.
With a heavily decreased population, all the game animals would breed like crazy, meaning in a couple years, you'll have deer, turkey and boar running all over the place.
I think the post-apocalypse (not nuclear, of course) would be good for the environment, since the o-zone would repair itself, deforestation would be reversed after dome decades, and all the wild endangered animals would repopulate. Just stay away from cities with a nuclear power plant whose uranium rods cause a meltdown without proper cooling.
What are some safe chew toys for cats? I've heard Greenies are sketchy.
Not necessarily looking for dental shit.
Also what are some toys that cats genuinely enjoy playing with.

Seriously, don't play with yourself if your cat is around, those claws are murder.

One of my cats loves fishing poles with feathers, the other one really enjoys pawing around a small ball with a bell in it. The trick with cats is to keep it simple
Myrmecology, Formicarium, and Caring for Ants Thread

Did you DIY your own Formicarium or buy it?
Did you buy a queen or catch one locally?

A few, but only of wild ones. Here is an Odontomachus hastatus I found in Costa Rica (and yes, I'm sure about the species).
Can we have a thread for aquatic animals that are not fish? Post crustaceans and cephalopods.
my dog perches on the arm of my chair and stares at me and whines at me to do things for him
pic very related
cat comes into my room at 4 am and knocks stuff off shelves until I get up and feed him.
If I ignore him he starts clawing at my face
dog steals seat whenever i get up
also shreds parcels that come in if i don't get to them first
My female Border Collie waits for me to get out of the shower just to sniff my crotch through the towel.
It's become so annoying that I now dress in the bathroom.
Can we have a thread just for amazing animal photos?
No 'pets'

> Want to keep a preying mantis or two in a 20 gallon tank
How do I into mantises? Is that enough space? Where the fuck would I get one to begin with?
>>2345310
Easily. Rule of thumb for mantis tank sizes is length and width = 2x the mantis length and height 3x
Common beginner species are Hierodula membranacea (giant Asian mantis), Sphodromantis lineola (giant African mantis), Tenodera sinensis(Chinese mantis) or their relatives belonging to the same genus. Phyllocrania paradoxa (ghost mantis) is on the smaller side, but are pretty docile and could be easily kept in a group in your tank.
As for getting them, where do you live?

Cute as fuck, also thanks.

I can't speak from experience since I'm not American, but I frequently see those shops suggested. bugsincyberspace got ooths and nymphs of chinese mantids in stock. Mantisplace also got a bunch of stuff like ghosts.
So, I'm going to be moving to Florida soon where I will know nobody. I really like cats so I'm thinking about volunteering at the animal shelter in the city there and spending time with the animals. I'm just curious tho, what's the likelyhood of meeting cute girls who also volunteer at shelters?
Is that something that QTs do as well?
well, I volunteer at shelters and I think of myself as a somewhat cute girl. a lot of girls tend to gravitate towards these kinds of sciences, so the chances of finding a girl you like are pretty high.
I work at a shelter and it highly depends on which city you are in and what people visit the shelter regularly.
We only have older people and the cat women tend to be crazy so no cute girls spotted yet.

Hey there /an/.
I'm trying to write a story that, at one point, has the main character facing a monster plant.
The setting is (by now, could be changed if needed) a warm, humid forest beside a large mass of water.
I want the attacking plant monster to give him scars/burns and also drowsiness and fever.
So far, the "giant hogweed" (Heracleum Mantegazzianum) fits the role well, but it does not cause fever and drowsiness, so I thought I could combine it with a second - also toxic - plant that could cause those symptoms upon touch.
Any suggestions on what that second plant could be?
Yes, I'm looking too deep into it.
>>2345098
Muscle paralyzing spores from the flower
Then the plant slowly buries the main character with its tentacle-like roots and uses him as fertilizer
>>2345111
What's it's name? Scientific would be best.
>>2345111
OP here.
Off of what I've read the giant hogweed does cause burns, but not paralysis (the plant does not live where I do).
I need help figuring out the breed of my bunny I think it's a Netherland dwarf. He is 2 months old and not sure how much pellets and hay I should be giving him. Also trying to potty train him to go to litter box any suggestions on how to do this ??
looks like a lionhead.
get a big but low cat litter box
he should be getting alfafa hay which is for baby buns. all the hay he can eat. by 9months switch to timothy
get him alfafa pellets (switch to timothy pellets when hes 9 months) once a day and also some veggies once a day. water available at all times

Litter training: put a litter box in a corner. Put some peed on bedding and poop in it. Also put some hay on or above it. Put rabbit near it. Have a litter box in a corner in every room
