ITT: Tardigrade related
So I would like to introduce the tardigrade.
> can survive temperatures from slightly above absolute zero to higher than boiling point of water
> highly resistant to radiation and other toxic entities
> withstands pressures WAYYY more than the Mariana trench
> can go without food for 10 years
These next few combined may provoke conspiracy theories
> can survive the vacuum of space for a long ass time
> apparently ONLY 1/6 of their genome is shared with other discovered organisms
> the rest is completely foreign
> biologists have no fucking clue how they came to be in that case
Can /an/ theorize where these resilient fuckers came from? So far their origin is a fucking mystery. Pic related

Hi guys. My puppy keeps on getting food stuck to the roof of her mouth and ends up chewing endlessly with a big wad of food glued to the top of her mouth. I've tried soft puppy food, kibble and chopped up chicken breast, it all ends the same way. One hour of smacking her mouth trying to get the food in with a big mess all over.
Any advice on how I can stop this from happening? Is this common in puppies or is she genetically defective?

How old is this puppy and what breed is she?

About 10 weeks. Mostly mutt with some sharpei and golden retriever in her.

try feeding her even softer food and harden it every week or take her to a vet if you believe this poses a threat to her life
Hey guys, I have a weird problem with my ball python. I got her 3 months ago but it only took her a few weeks to get settled. She's only a baby and about a foot long. She has a ten gallon tank that's kept between 78-85 degrees (usually at 81) The humidity level is kept at 48% she has a hide and cedar mulch bedding and a dinosaur skull she seem to like a lot. Nothing has changed in her environment since she's settled down. But all of a sudden for the past four days every time she sees me she immediately gets up and tries to get out. At first I thought she might be hungry because she hadn't eaten in 17 days. I tried offering her food and she used it as an opportunity to get out. I put her back in and left the room to throw out the dead mouse and she had curled back up in her usual spot. I come in again to check on her and as soon as she sees me she gets back to trying to get out of her cage. As soon as I take her out she just wants to wrap around my hand. I'm very confused about why she does this and I don't want to anthropomorphize her motives.
Tldr; is my snake smart enough to associate me with exploring outside her cage? Is it possible that my snake enjoys being handled? Can snakes actually like people? Or is there something wrong that I'm not seeing?
>>2345444
It may be that the snake is bored with the tank, of just wants to explore the outside world. Yes, it's possible that it now associates you with something it likes (being out), so it can tolerate being handled just fine. Just sounds like you have a curious snoot
>>2345445
Nice. Thanks! I'm going to have to hold her more often then.
Couple things here. First, you need a heat gradient between high 70's on the cool side of the tank and 90 on the hot side (that is 90 floor temp, not ambient). This can be accomplished with an under tank heater about 30%-40% of the width of your tank in size.
Second, that 10g gallon tank needs an upgrade very soon. It's already right on the edge of too small for your snek's current size.
They certainly can be curious and want to explore around outside their tanks but most likely she's looking for a warmer spot to bask on.
I can hear the purring just looking at the pic.
d'aww what a cutie
male/female?
Any help would be great. Have kids and want to know if they are dangerous etc.

Thanks

I'm pretty certain it is merely a brown snake (Storeria dekayi), quite harmless unless you are a worm or snail.
Otherwise, you have nothing to fear from them. I've encountered a few and they are quite shy. Its the type you can sit and watch, and appreciate for as long as they keep their nerve to stay. It is essentially the 'sparrow' of snake personalities.

why so many ants needed to carry it?
can't one ant carry like 50 times it's own weight?

It's just like real life. You might have difficulty moving 200 pounds alone but can still get it done. Or you and your buddies can just move it together with ease.

What do I do with a dog?
I got a new job that requires me to travel internationally about 3 months ago. I have to leave Friday morning for 3 weeks.
I got a dog about 6 months ago, he was a stray that I took in. There are no shelters around me. (There is one but the lady who runs it proudly told me it's a kill shelter that cleans up a the streets)) I posted him on Facebook and no one wants him.
What do I do
>>2345369
Look for a local volunteer foundation (e.g. Those Left Behind)
>>2345369
Are you trying to get rid of him entirely?
I'd just do what >>2345387 says, not sure what else you could do. Good luck anon.
is it a nice dog?
do you have a friend or relative?
my family would fight over my dog if i had to give him away for some reason ( i can't imagine what short of my own death)

I would say they are brainless yet that is part of their charm. Many are so skittish. They seem to delight in anxiety, as if panic is enjoyable.
They can be terrified by a shadow and equally ecstatic about the sound of lettuce treats coming. Tremendous capacity for histrionic emotion about everything.
They have a unique combination of great memory and little intelligence or attention span.
By the same token, they are a bit like chickens in that when they are visibly calm and happy, it means more coming from a typically nervous animal, and the interlude of peace and contentment is contagious. Then, apropos of nothing, a leaf may fall or a blanket may rustle, and suddenly they are back to wary suspicion of everything.
Their primary sense seems to be hearing which is very acute, and of course they aren't an especially graceful or athletic critter. So their world seems to be mostly sound and the expectation that something bigger and faster could be anywhere.
The pitched emotions combined with no attention span and endless gluttony is comical. Whatever end-of-the-world panicked suspicions one might have as a result of hearing a pencil drop disappears instantly if the next sound is treats coming. When food is on the way, I dont think hawks dropping bombs could distract or worry them.
The horror and terror that might be the monster growling in the air conditioner may indeed herald nightmarish doom, but a leaf of lettuce is a leaf of lettuce, and it could be the last one in the world. No one will get between him and treats,
My daughter wants one, because my sister has one, but you have to get two, right? I'd rather have a rabbit, though.
Will a Gunea pig eat grass like a rabbit? I figure I can get a little fencing and move it around the lawn.

what dat stone
is it diamonds?
I am very new to geology and don't even have an idea how to ID a stone for it is not an insect. I tried looking up ID-keys for stones but since I can neither count its antennae segments nor measure the lenth of its maxilla or hair I have no idea what species those crystals are. Can I smoke them? I am totally not black btw
It isn't diamonds, but I don't know what it is specifically. There's some people on here that know more than I do though.

appears to be on marine limestone so it's prbbly calcite, dolomite, or gypsum.
>>2345261
Unfortunately, I was thinking the same thing. I recognize them but dont remember the name, its been so long. I was actually puzzled by the grey bottom part. Im sure even a moderately experienced geologist would be able to help when they show up.
Im rather certain they arent biological. The look like they formed rather quickly though.

if a cat got a VERY SMALL cut from shaving, and it's on the surface. and there was VERY LITTLE blood like 4 or 5 hours ago but now it disappeared, he's running/playing, eating and doing all kinds of cat stuff. should i be worried? the bitch who was shaving him gave him a little cut on the back of his leg. he got a nipple nicked too a year ago and it healed naturally. he's finding a hard time sitting too.

why are you even having your cat shaved?
This is stupid. You're stupid.

This literally just happened. I blugeoned his head in with "The Master and Margarita". Do you guys feel bad when you brutally murder bugs? I usually wouldn't but it was like a demonic force came over me and I was the Lord of the Flies. Justify my sins.
I killed a lot of gnats yesterday. It feels great to smash those annoying fuckers. I don't see anything wrong with it since they deserve death for being annoying little shits. House flies deserve it way more since they walk in shit and can spread shit bacteria on you and your possessions. It is justified.

more like fuck-them-all mode Margarita
anyway, they breed so fast because they are food. Throw it away on the open ground to birds/as a future soil component if you want to feel better.
