So i accepted two rescue leopard geckos a while ago, dont know the age but full size and healthy after being fed for a few weeks (They were very poorly fed before I got them, super thin). Recently i took on a third one from a friend of a friend, and purchsed a 33 gallon long tank (same dimensions as a standard 55 but 2/3 the height). now for my birthday my aunt decided it would be a good idea to buy me a FOURTH gecko, a juvenile, no less. is that volume of tank sufficient. i would hate to return the poor thing but young ones are so hard and i have too many already... pic related is my tank, you can see three of the four. I know sand is bad, so i feed in a separate 20 gallon tank.
OP again, here are the three older ones on my shirt, middle is the friend of a friend one, the one i just got inst in this photo
That tank is horrible and you shouldn't be keeping more than one in anything that size.
I want to donate money to help certain animals such as elephants, but I don't know where to go to do this because a lot of organizations turn out to be really fishy. I learned that a lot of elephant sanctuaries are very cruel too.
Is there any resource for where I can find reputable places that will use my money to actually support/help animals? How is WWF?
>>2346531
Sorry that I don't know, but you should be proud of being the smart minority of people who actually look into who they are considering donating to.
I wish the US government would buy a huge tract of land in the USA and fill it with African animals
Then African animals can roam wild in a vast tract of land and breed without the risk of poaching

thank god you aren't in charge
This is the most incredible thing I've ever seen.

A proper video is surprisingly hard to find, but there it is.
I thought Giraffes were frail. Spindly, awkward, dainty. I thought they'd be easy prey for a pride of lions, just swipe a leg and the whole thing comes down.
It blew my mind. While I was watching, I fully expected the Giraffe to die. I braced myself for it. Sir David narrates that the Giraffe can outrun the pride, which was kinda surprising, but being led into a trap? No chance.
The chase draws to an intense close, and we're shown the lead lioness - one of the most successful predators in Africa - lining up the kill. The focus on its face is steely as it meticulously positions itself, leaps up, grabs the giraffe by the neck...
And the giraffe just plows right through the lioness like it's a toy. The damn thing doesn't even slow down, and stomps the lioness for good measure. Everything I thought I knew about giraffes was a lie, and this shocked the hell out of me when I first saw it. This has to be the best segment of the entire Planet Earth 2 series. I've watched the entire series so far, and nothing tops this.
>>2346406
so much for apex predator. dumb outdoor cats
>>2346406
Giraffes can kill a lion with a single kick and most of the time lions are afraid of them
They're such sweet animals too, giraffes. Weirdos as well. Really an all-around stellar animal.

What the fuck?
This appears to be the same footage as the OP video, but in this one the giraffe definitely dies while the OP giraffe definitely lives
It's all a fucking lie, everything you see

Tonight I cane downstairs to let my dogs out, and my older dog, Panda, was acting different.
Usually she will slowly get up and go outside, but this time she just laid there. It was almost if she couldn't tell I was there. I tried to stand her up, but she fell back down. Blood came out of her behind.
I finally got her to go outside. But she didn't come back. She was laying down in the grass. I called for her, but again, it was like she couldn't tell I was there. I got her to stand up and go inside where she is now sleeping.
I know shes getting really old. She will turn 17 in august, but is it really her time? I've never seen her act like this.
Tell me it's going to be ok /an/ tell me she isn't going to leave yet
She's at least drinking water now
I'm sorry your buddies sick dude
You have to take her to an emergency vet. If she won't respond and she's bleeding internally that's really bad.
What is this thing? It woke me up, i think the fucker got me.
>>2346141
Whatever it was it needed to die
>>2346144
tell me about it, i was half asleep and the fucker went for my ear and when i slapped it, the fucker got me. it hurts. i had to go full predator mode and hunt it till i finally got it, had to give it the shoe treatment like 3 times for it to stop moving

/an/, I was driving to work this morning and on two separate occasions a bird who was sitting quietly on a fencepost/tree branch/etc darted out in front of my car seemingly unprovoked.
I live in Indiana and I've seen birds do this shit on countless occasions. Just waiting until a car gets close and then choosing to fly to the other side of the road.
Are these dumbass birds doing this for an Adrenalin rush or to somehow impress other birds or something?
I can't figure out why they do this shit.
>>2346010
The two birds in question made it safely to the other side. As do about 99% of the birds who do this stupid shit.
Last summer a bright red male cardinal did this shit to me and I ended up killing him with the grill of my car.

Get a new shtick.
yer gonna start posting happy furry critters doing funny things that make us laugh or you'll post nothing at all
We have a happy board culture full of joy and you're gonna get with the goddam program or get sage/reported. No exceptions. No objections. No weird or provocative/politically immoral solicitations.
Now delete this goddam monstrosity of a shit thread-for-attention, find some fuzzy kittens playing with yarn and post that pic asking how cute they are like a normal person.
Everything here is happy and nice and you're gonna fucking get used to it or else get saged, reported, doxxed and referred to authorities in your range for potential abuse and cruelty.
This is /an/ and we aren't fucking around. Fuzzy happy critters now or you'll be hunted down like the likely animal abuser you are exposed to the world for whatever monstrosities you're responsible for.

Do Ant queens die of old age?
Been going on a documentary binge and found out termite queens end up being devoured alive once their eggs dry up.
Is it the same case for all ant queens or do they just die naturally?
>>2345826
yes but there are only very few believable numbers to go by.
Oecophylla smaragdina (Indonesian and Malaysian variant) for example almost always die after 7 years. That number was tested and researched and can be believed.
Whilst some very very unreliable sources are quoted as saying that for example Lasius niger can live up to 30 years but I wouldn't count on that being true.
Monomorium pharaonis on the other hand are known to live only a couple of months and go with the spamming queens strategy.
About 7-15 years seem to be a good estimate for a average queens live tho
>>2345840
Thanks man. Guess ant queens really do have it better than their termite counterparts.
How is it possible that an ant queen has enough sperm for the rest of her life after mating a single time? Doesn't the sperm die off/run out at some point?
Anyone want to play identify this arachnid! Most appreciated.
looks vinegaroon with its tail invisible
Country is New Zealand If it helps, currently looking myself
never mind, it looks to be a whitetail
If someone told me this I would tell them it's an urban myth

It's like it's fucking scripted
>he was not asking for it
What was the documentary even about? What could go so wrong that somebody's dog attacks them seemingly out of the blue? There is such little context here.

>inb4 ask a vet retard.
Can someone identify this? My buddy took a picture of it in Florida wetlands. It was about 4 to 6 inches long from the video. I've never seen anything like that.
