I had some pet ghost mantis, and after they died I put them in the freezer, pinned them, then framed them.

I'm pretty sure I've discovered the perfect pet.

You should bury them. Yeah I know they are dead bugs but like. "Oh yeah these are the corpses of my pets, I collect them." is LITTLE BIT CREEPY.
>>
>>2354222

I don't know, bro. Shit is pretty neat. And getting to raise and take care of it as a pet for its whole life is pretty cool, so you know they died of natural causes and had a full life.

Probably wouldn't do the same thing with a cat.

Found these remains of a cat while taking pictures in a friend's garden. Surprised how complete I managed to get it. It's missing rib, paw and tail bones but otherwise the general structure is complete. Going to soak him in bleach today. And want to try wire mounting it on a wooden board to put him on my workbench. Anyone have any tips or experience doing this? Will probably leave the paws out and make mittens for it or something. Make it look cute as shit

I once sawed off a dead cat's head and threw both into a river. That's about it.

Wood glue for teeth.
Bleach? Do as you wish if you want it white as a blanket
Dont put to much pressure on bones when using the wire. Cat bones are pretty fragile

There must be other anon with disadvantaged pets, and I'm keen to hear about them, so let's have a good thread.

>Ladybird
>not sure/3 months
>front right leg/arm up to the foreleg/arm
>not sure/whole life
>enjoys a belly rub

I got her for $100 from the lonely meow society incl spaying and vaccinations.
She makes slow movement look very difficult, and isn't quite sure how to make use of her reduced limb. I caught her trying to shovel litter with the arm stump yesterday.
I've only recently gotten her but she's made me very aware of how differently animals behave when they're missing a limb.

Good day, /an/!

I recently purchased and paid in full a nice 178 acre ranch home in Maryland and are currently looking into a nice dog house.

Friend just had a newborn litter of German Sheppards and I will eventually adopt one in a few months to a year.

What are some nice conveniences and materials these days? Poly/composite materials instead of wood seems interesting and better longevity. Mobile may be nice too. The top 3 acres around our house is already wired for radio fence around a nice large perimeter so will probably get one of those collars in the future when it grows up.

Thoughts on materials and discussion of neat techie/niceties stuff they got these days would be appreciated!

Central/Western. Frederick is close. Yeah, composite materials are nice and considering building a third deck with it. It looks much nicer than years ago and closer to wood.

Strange. Not sure I would want hay substrate but I have plenty of it around. Seems sanitary though. The dog would be outside full time for all but the coldest of nights.

I really like what that guy did in the pic. Sort of have a slab of concrete around it which I assume lessens ticks (at least around where they sleep)

Not really.

Hornets, wasps and bees aren't aggressive unless they're defending themselves or the hive. You can pretty much feed any of the lone members when they're out on a foraging run.
>>
When I was a kid I went into our garden and pet bees sometimes. They were soft and fluffy, and didn't react aggressively at all. (My movements were slow and my touch soft, mind.)

yeah, they have a perforate acetabulum, pygostyle, synsacrum, cannon bone (fused tarsus), reduced manual and pedal digits, single occipital, feathers, wishbone, digitigrade stance, antorbital fenestra, fifth trochanter, semilunate carpal, pneumatic axial and appendicular skeleton, sclerotic ring, gastralia, reduction of the caudal series, ascending process of the astragalus, some other shit I can't remember off the top of my head.

all of which are found in dinosaurs and some of which are found only in dinosaurs.

I'm adopting a dog soon. The problem is, I live in a super uptight West Coast city (Seattle). I've heard horror stories about people getting turned down for adoptions because they weren't willing to consider a pitbull, might have kids someday, or made less than 100 K per year.

I've got a sweet house, a lot of dog experience, I live next door to a beautiful park AND a dog park, and I work from home. I can afford vet care if needed, toys, good food, grooming. I just want some kinda fluffy medium sized poodly kinda dog, probably a mix to take walks with and be my dogbro.

What are my chances of actually finding a dog in the shelters? Or will some PETA-militant vegan shelter volunteer just kick my ass out of the waiting room for making a breed specific request?

It wouldn't hurt to ask to just see the dogs. Don't give them details unless necessary. If you haven't check out their websites to see the adoptions.

>getting turned down for adoptions because they weren't willing to consider a pitbull
Probably because all they had were pit bulls. I've had a couple bitch me out because I 'wouldn't' adopt a dog out to them because they didn't want a pit bull mix, and their idea of a pit bull mix was any dog with wrinkles on it's head. So I had no dogs they were interested in.

I would suggest going to a pound if you don't want to deal with people asking questions and shit. But keep in mind you will be scraping from the bottom of the barrel. Puppies, small dogs, and high value breeds tend to go to rescues where the rescues can be as picky as they want because they are able to turn down surrenders and don't need to euthanize for space. Pounds on the other hand can not turn down surrenders, they are required to take in animals.

Another tip I have is that if you are set on adopting, do NOT go in expecting breeds to act like their breeds or mixes. One thing about shelter dogs is a tiny miniscule fraction actually come from breeders that care about their breeding stock and breed to a standard. So you might get a lab that's unusually prone to stranger aggression, a very stranger friendly GSD, etc. You have to go in thinking about the dog individually. For all you know, that dog has very little poodle in it and might actually be mostly beagle. Just be prepared for anything and don't let looks deceive you. I've seen too many people get a dog because they thought it looked like X breed and that it would act one way, and became very disappointed.
My aunt adopted what I thought was a beagle and cocker spaniel mix puppy, it's DNA ended up being pic related. Just as reference.

I'm getting surgery soon and I need ideas to keep my dog entertained while I recover. I will be totally out of commission for 10 days and I won't be able to walk her for maybe 3-4 weeks. I have a kong to freeze wet food in, but that lasts her about an hour at most. Anybody been in this situation?

What is your stance on the Oregon state bird controversy?

People on bird forums are in a state of panic and anger because an Oregon senator proposed changing the state bird from Western Meadowlark to Osprey. It has already passed the senate and now the state house has to vote on it.

tl;dr the meadowlark was chosen as the state bird in 1927 by some school children and some people are in a tizzy now that one man wants to change it based on his preference without giving the population of the entire state a say in the matter.
