Which liquids can fish actually breathe in?

It would be hard for a fish to see, but could a fish live in Coca Cola, or milk? I know some fish can live in very dark and dirty water, so while soda and milk aren't dirty, they have some similar qualities with dirty water.

So could a fish live in cola or other liquids just the same as water and he would just have a harder time of it?

>can fish survive in stuff that's not water
Technically, yes. So long as the pH isn't caustic, there is oxygen exchange, the gill filaments stay moist and separated, a fish can survive in air. Technically. In reality, no. Not outside of lab conditions.
Cola, no. Too acidic, burns them alive. Too much CO2, not enough oxygen.
Milk, no. The lipids clog up the gill filaments. Could try no-fat milk.

So here's my pathetic story /an/

>have a gf
>she starts calling me bunny
>she gifts me a bunny for our anniversary
>the bun seems bored because (as I read) he needs a partner
>buy another bun to make him company
>turns out the new one is a female
>doesn't matter, idk
>the male bun escapes while the female is outside
>he impregnates her
>don't think much because I'm an idiot
>fembun has 3 little buns
>decide to raise them because they're cute
>now they're one year old
>suddenly realize I have to take care of them for at least five years if not more
>realize I've fucked up my life for nothing
>buns are not even good pets

Buns can live up to 10+ years. Now I can't stop thinking I won't be free until they all pass away...

Morels are so aesthetically pleasing. Actually most mushrooms in general are.

Also how/where do I hunt for psilocybin mushrooms? I've gone searching in the mountains before but I couldn't find any mushrooms that looked similar. Also no luck with cow patties nearby.

If Ligers existed in the wild, do you think they would hunt in packs like their paternal species (lion) or solitary like their maternal species (tiger)?

Yeah, the liger is shrunk down to about half it's usual size
>>
>>2363709
Depends on the environment and available food.

An open field tend to be more preferred for pack hunters, while forest areas allow for better solitary hunting.

If the prey is large, pack hunting would be ideal. But if the prey is small yet plentiful, it would be best to live alone.

Let's talk about declawing. Also general cat thread. If anyone has some anecdotal evidence about declawed cats, I'd love to hear them. Is it true that cats are friendlier after being declawed? The AMA stated that cats are more friendly with their owners after a declaw, but looking at it logically that doesn't make any fucking sense.

Declawing past the quick causes the claw to grow back crooked and cripples the cat's paws. All it does is stabs their claw back into them. Imagine your fingernail being ripped off, and then it grew back crooked and stabbed through your finger. Not fun.

>>

it's a painful procedure for the cat, both in the healing process and the aftermath. Cats almost always develop behavioural issues after being declawed.

Think of it like this: because your owner is too lazy to clip your nails, they just cut off everything from the first finger joint down.

Then you have to walk on the tips of your newly cut fingers

Then you get litter and dirt and feces in your cuts

Now you're constantly in pain while realizing your main defensive mechanism is gone so your go-to way of saying "No" is to bite

Your retarded owner puts you into a shelter where you will be killed because you now have aggression issues

tl;dr:
1. How to housebreak a ten year old dog that's never lived inside.
2. How to make a very smelly dog not stink so goddamn much (normal baths with dog shampoo don't seem to go far on her? it might just be because she has to go right back outside.)
3. How to make all this appealing to inattentive and anal retentive owners?
I know there's a lot of information about this online and I'm going over my sources, but any personal experiences with this would make me feel better and more confident desu

(everything below this line is mostly me ranting)
____________

my parents had two big dogs who have lived in an outdoor kennel for the past decade. recently we lost one (she was put down last week, cancer), and it's left her sister in a sad state. my parents didn't want to allow them inside in the beginning because they don't know how to housebreak dogs and just honestly they're lazy and neglectful to pets.
i came home with my own dog, who's house broken and well trained and they love having him inside where they can play with and pet him whenever. it's definitely changed their view of dogs.
my dog gets along really well with their dog, but she's old, overweight and arthritic. I feel terrible about her being out in the kennel all alone (she still howls for her sister, it's heartbreaking), and I want to try to transition her in to an inside dog.

my mom's very high strung in regards to pets in the house. the list of conditions to my dog living inside is a long one; he needs regular baths (which is the only thing i contest on the list because he has dry skin, but we're working on that), isn't allowed on the furniture ever, no chewing on things he shouldn't, etc (reasonable stuff for a well trained animal and an attentive owner). she can't STAND dog smell, and doesn't even visit with the outside dog because she's very smelly.
I want to bring the outside dog in so she can enjoy whatever time she has left comfortable, warm and part of the family. she's a mild and friendly old girl and I want to be able to keep a closer eye on her (I'll be living at home for at least the next two or three years). the biggest obstacle is going to be convincing my parents that it's doable.
>>
>>2364810
1) just as you would any other dog; praise for peeing and pooping outside, ignore and do not reinforce for accidents inside. Make sure to take him out a lot so he understands what he should do, and it is extremely important to get the dog on a feeding and walking schedule since your mom is so anal, That way his bladder will work more like clockwork, so you know for example by 8am he needs to go potty.
I tell people to use an extra room like a bathroom or laundry room for a crate when needed, but follow the same crate guidlines if you're using a room.

2) Make sure your dog isn't matted, and if it has wrinkles, disinfect under all the flaps of skin. Disinfect under the elbows and under the base of the tail. Make sure he has no poop dingleberries on his butt. If he is really matted, he will probably need to be shaved. I'd advise a groomer for the first time; you're not going to be able to clean away years of neglect yourself, you will need a professional. They are definitely used to dealing with related cases. Then after that you will have to keep up maintenance on the dog and the house with mopping, vacuuming, etc. They also make dog safe scented wipes and perfumes. If it's hi breath that smells, unfortunately he would need to see a vet that can do dental work, and then after you need to regularly brush his teeth. If it's the ears, he needs to see a vet to get treated for ear infection.

3)Depends, most people of adult age don't change their minds. People are too stubborn. If the owners don't want it done, then that's that. If the dog has a case of mange or yeast infection you could probably get the cops involved for neglect.

>How to housebreak a ten year old dog that's never lived inside.
The same way as a very young puppy. It's doable so long as you are attentive and consistent.
>How to make a very smelly dog not stink so goddamn much
Good diet. Launder her bedding every week. Scub down her kennel and spray her pen down with some sort of cleaner to get rid of a decade of funk. The one in my pic works ok. There is probably better/cheaper stuff out there, but it's the only one I have personal experience with.
Remember, the dog is only going to smell as good as it's environment.
Also take her to a groomer for a bath and drying, the drying part is important. A towel is not good enough for a shaggy-haired dog. The groomer might have tips to keep the smell away.
>How to make all this appealing to inattentive and anal retentive owners?

My dog is now 12 years old and on gabapentin, loxicom and tramadol for back and mild joint pain. The cause is unknown but likely due to old age so probably a disc in her back and/or nerve damage. She is too old to be operated on so we've opted for pain relief.

She can still run around and chase sticks and has good mobility. In large part to the medicine as without it she's too stiff or sore to do much.

But lately we've started hillwalking every weekend with a group of friends. Naturally we've brought the dog and all our (dogless) friends are keen for her to keep coming so they get some 'dog time'. She's managed to keep up with us the entire time and seems to really enjoy the hikes.

Our vet has given mixed reactions though. Half the time they say she shouldn't be excessively active and the other half say to keep doing it until she physically can't manage anymore.

I feel like we need to stop taking her on the hikes to avoid causing further 'damage'. If she relying on pain meds to get through day to day life I'm worried a 5 hour hike every weekend over a long period is putting her through unnecessary pain.

So my question is, what would you guys suggest I do? My girlfriend changes her mind every time the topic is brought up.

So I'm looking for an outside opinion.

It's better for her to stay mobile as long as she can. So long as she isn't overexerting herself, keep hiking. Swim if you can. Once you start cutting down activity, there's no recovering from that. It's why an extended hospital stay is pretty much a death sentence for the elderly.
Besides, she's twelve, she's not going to live much longer anyway.

If the joint pain/stiffness is the main health issue, and she doesn't seem to mind, I would keep doing it. You could think of it as a quality of life thing, if she really enjoys joining her family for their weekend hikes, it may sadden her to miss out on them.

Why are rainforest animals the most beautiful and colorful? I mean, i know that desert animals are brown because of the sand, that snow animals are white because of the snow, etc, but if that's the case, why aren't most rainforest animals green, for example? Wouldn't it be bad for a flashy blue bird to live on a place that's mostly green and brown? Or is the rainforest so full of trees that animals don't give a hoot about blending in the place because the trees always cover them? And what makes them so beautiful (beautiful, not necessarily colorful) in general?
(I know that there are green lizards and parrots and all, but MOST rainforest animals are always so colorful and flashy)

Also, beautiful animals thread

I imagine the dense foliage cover helps them hide easier than animals that live in open areas like deserts and grasslands.
>>
I suppose because rainforests have abundance of food and water all year round so the sexual selection of brighter colours has gone on longer, compared to north american forests where nearly all animals have to focus on not dying in winter every year.
>>
There are also a lot of poisonous/venomous animals that reside there, and they use their colors as a way of warning potential predators. And then i'd think some animals have evolved bright colors to scare of predators even if they're not venomous/poisonous.

Can someone explain to me why anyone would spend a couple hundred dollars just to aquire a cat? I just don't get it. I've seen the breed standards, there's about 3 lines or less regarding their personality, and there are only ever two different types of cats (friendly and not friendly) with two energy levels, yet everyone I talk to with pure breeds say their cat acts the opposite of how it's supposed to, so what's the fucking point? Is it that they want to spend a couple hundred dollars for a better chance at getting a friendly, lazy cat? Is it just for the looks, so they can get a cat that has a brown face and ears and a white body? Or is it so they can be a special snowflake and post images of their purebred bombay on instagram? It's all just fucking dumb to me
