who stretched this dog

my dad is making a small waterfall pond thing in our garden (probably about 50-75 gal) and he wants some fish in it. problem is, we live in vancouver, canada where it gets to about -5C in the winter.

are there any easy to care for fish that can survive this? should i look into heating options? i know nothing about fish.

yeah get a pond heater. The right one(s) will keep you fine
>>
>>2365091
>>2365148
You can also just do what all the pro koi people do and have an indoor tank to keep them in during the cold months.

Especially since it's only 50-75G. That's small potatoes.

The only tricky part is to keep the biofilter alive or get it ready for the winter months on time since half of the year the aquarium is not stocked.
>>
>>2365148
are there any you suggest?

>>2365161
nah thats prob too much of a hassle for my parents, prob looking to keep 2-3 smol fish or one larger one with a bunch of plants that we can keep outside. any suggestions?
or maybe even turtles or amphibians; any easy aquatic animal

RIP, buddy

What the fuck is wrong with my fucking cat.
(Pic unrelated but close)

My fucking overgrown rat is 9 months old and I swear there is something wrong in her head. (and with the amount of times she's run/jumped head first into the wall I wouldn't be surprised if she has brain damage of sorts)

Aren't kittens supposed to sleep for 15 hours a day? Mine sleeps for maybe 4, if I'm lucky. The other 22 hours she's running into walls, smashing shit, tearing up the curtains and wailing because she wants something (normally at a bug on the wall she can't reach or because a door is closed). Nothing deters the little fucker when she wants something and I'm fairly certain she can't feel pain. My roommate once poured hot coffee on her after she got on the table and stole food and she was so focused on eating she didn't even flinch.

Water, lemon juice, vinegar, tinfoil, double sided tape, etc, nothing stops the little fucker. We even tried that repellent citronella spray which had no effect.

She's an indoor cat since we have two huskies with a history of killing cats. I'm genuinely considering throwing her outside with them. I've owned kittens in the past and none have ever been anything like this. Is it worth keeping an animal I don't like in hopes she'll grow out the unnatural hyperactivity?

It sounds like you don't play with her nor give her any entertainment at all anon
>>
>>2364528
I try keeping her entertained with a laser pointer before bed but she outlasts the batteries most nights. Even then she'll only sleep for a few hours before waking me up again. I'm pretty sure that's not normal, right?
>>
>>2364529
You just play with her with a laser pointer?
1- laser pointers are shit if not followed by something they can actually catch, they get all pent up and frustrated.
2- that's not even close to enough.
You need maaaany toys, anon. Toys it can use on its own, toys it can use with you, soft toys, hard toys, food toys, etc. Kittens need lots of stimuli. You better get it used to playing with toys instead of the furniture. Also get it something to scratch. Playing a lot will help it relax and will make it sleep more.

How does /an/ feel about Corgis? Are they good for an apartment? Between Cardigans and Pembrokes, which is better? Are there any good mixes?

corgicare.com has everything you need to know about the little dudes
Basically, they're small herding dogs, so they need lots of activity or they can become destructive. They're ok to have in apartments as long as you give them plenty of activity outside. I wouldn't know which doggo is best for you
>>
>>2364167
Thanks! I'll be sure to check it out. My roomates and I are moving to a new apartment in a few years, and I'm trying to find out if there are any good apartment dogs. I heard Corgi's are good companion dogs online, so I've been looking into them.
>>
>>2364156
Pembrokes are slightly smaller than Cardigans, the main differences other than that mostly dealing with coat and tail standards.

They are humungous assholes especially to other dogs when they are younger, mellowing out greatly sometime after being fully grown.

I have trained my cat to wear a harness to take her outside safely and I have started putting some raw meat into her diet. Doing research on harness training and raw diets has led me to a lot of people against vaccinating their cat.

None of the articles I read had any evidence or arguments against vaccines except "did you know it's injecting a virus into your cat" and "vets are Jews that's why they tell you to revacc once a year but it's not needed."

What do you guys think? Is there really any reason to NOT vaccinate? Especially if I'm taking my cat outside, there's always a risk with that, that she could get loose. Why would anyone actually argue against the rabies vaccine?

Maybe it's true that they don't need it every single year though. Any thoughts? Anyone out there have animals that have never received a vaccine?

>>
>>2363468
I think it comes with the same sentiment that anti-vax parents have but with pet owners. As in they think it's toxic but then their kid gets measles or their puppy gets parvo and they regret it immensely.
>>
I don't know much about this, and I am generally for vaccinating your animals, but iirc there's a vaccine (I think for feline leukemia) that has a high chance of causing complications, so sometimes vets advise against it if your cat is strictly indoor and doesn't risk coming into contact with other infected cats.
>>
>>2363472
I know the feline leukemia vaccine isn't considered a "core" vaccine and if a vet pushes for that with an indoor cat I generally think it's just for the money.

Does a vaccine ever stop working? Anyone know if they actually need done once a year or is that just a precaution?

I've been reading H is for Hawk and now I want to be an austringer. I would like to form a special, brooding bond with a goshawk and live through it vicariously while it kills and kills, and perhaps I'd help it too if that was cool with the hawk. I'd want a really vindictive shithead of a hawk so that I would have a friend for once.

Anyway, I'm in the UK. Anyone have experience with falconry, or hawks specifically? Thanks.

i think this whole hawk thing will work out for you better because you live in UK
>>
>inb4 OP is a fag
>inb4 bait

Don't get a fucking hawk you dumbass.
If this isn't bait, get a dog, a hunting dog, and put yourself to good use. Become a social member of society with a Setter (maybe even an English setter *wink* *wink*) and learn to hunt birds.

This will not only get you a great companion, but may give you a good skill (ie- hunting) which'll help you impress a lady, as well as other people.

Jesus though you sound like a total fag please dont get a hawk.
>>
>>2363407
>so that I would have a friend

Raptors have zero desire to be your friend, and are pretty much mindless hunting machines. They're solitary by nature, outside of breeding season, and will not form any kind of bond with you outside of viewing you as a food machine, and possibly a mate during mating season.

Harris hawks are more social, but that's not saying much when you're talking about raptors.

Raptors really are assholes.

Why are the Japanese so obsessed with Coelacanths? I noticed this when i threw 'coelacanth' into a search on ebay. Coelacanths are pretty cool and I was curious what kind of merchandise is out there. Turns out there's all kinds of Coelacanth items from Japan, all stuff that looks like it was made for local use, even a coelacanth tea strainer. Searching シーラカンス on google brings up tons of stuff, the Japanese seem really -really- into coelacanths and I wonder if there is some particular reason why. I even remember seeing some japanese flash video years ago about coelacanths.

Yeah, a shitbull got out in my neighborhood and kept trying to mount my female rottie while I was out walking her.
I shoved him off, got in between, tried to look as tall as possible, and had a staring competition with the shitbull. Luckily it bought my bluff, probably believing it was outnumbered, and took a submissive posture while following us another few blocks.
