How do you feel about Pit Bulls as Police dogs?
My state of Ohio just pulled this PR stunt and adopted this one from a shelter slated for the needle, being the first Pitbull ever to be used as a police dog... for the purpose of "he searches for narcotics, and is not meant for aggression or apprehension of suspects."

You know any dog can sniff for shit, right? Even pugs, bulldogs and double Merle dogs. They often used mutts (which includes pit bull types) as dogs to sniff out narcotics and bombs and such. It's definitely not the first pit bull type dog pulled from a shelter to ever to be a narcotics dog, I've personally trained 6 in NY that went professional. They are probably making a story from it because, if what you say is true, the dog was very close to death. A nice feel good story.

So, dogoo keeps thinking he sees possums running across the back fence after seeing one do it once. Now he keeps wanting to go out back every fucking night and go in the back corner and will not fucking come out.
He's four and fucking knows when I want him to come in. I could not fucking get him to come. Shook the treat jar, nothing. Went out there and called him, nothing. Went out there with a fucking flashlight and yelled, nothing. I had to get in the fucking bushes with a stick and get between him and the fence and CHASE him back into the fucking house. He kept trying to get back to the fucking fence. He could've sat out there all night barking at the fence if I'd left him. And in an hour he'll want to go out again, ostensibly to pee.
I know, he's a dog, he's territorial, he's doing his job, and I'm proud of him for keeping me safe from those nasty possum fuckers. But how the FUCK do I teach him to get in the house right the fuck now?

Though she only acts this way if there's actually a opossum (or a rat). My other dog joins in, but recalls. But for the other it's like I'm not even there. The relationship should go tell, make. Not ask....then ask again....then ask again.
Use an e-collar, or a long line, and do daily recall drills from outside where you issue your recall command, give him a half a second to comply, then start dragging his ass inside, or hit him with the E-collar, then reward with affection when he shows up.
With enough repetition, he'll get the message.

Need a bit of advice, found some kids stomping on an , what appears to be, adolescent goose.
They seem to have badly injured its right leg pretty badly and in my failed attempts to feed it i noticed its behavior.
Its making very short hissing noises or snorts i assume while rapidly lowering and raising its head as it hisses.
It does this within 1 to 3 second intervals and has been doing it for the last hour or so. Planning on taking it to the vet tomorrow,closed today, as i assume maybe they can do something about it, possibly, so i came here to at least get some answers.
Any help or info appreciate i it.

If they were kicking and stomping it the internal injuries and broken bones could be very severe. I wouldn't get my hopes up, there probably isn't anything you'll be able to do for it. Getting it into the hands of a professional the only hope it has.

I didn't really want to make a whole thread just for this so I'll turn it into a general. Post your cats, post other people's cats, talk about cats, bitch about cats, blogpost, whatever.
I have two cats that I got from a shelter when they were 6 months old. They were fed solely Science Diet dry food since they were weaned (I know because I work at said shelter) and when I got them, they would only eat Science Diet dry. No wet food, no treats, no table scraps, nothing. Only that one particular brand of dry food. After a few months of putting up a hunger strike, 5 years later I got them to eat a bit of Blue Buffalo dry with their Science Diet, and after an even longer strike they will now eat Natural Balance canned food (but if I switch to any other flavor or brand they snuff it again, and the hunger strike starts all over).
My issue is, on the recommended feeding on the canned food, they seem to be getting super skinny. During their hunger strike I could feel their ribs, but after a few months of only eating canned food, I can visibly see curves on my cats. I tried giving them over the recommended feeding, but now I have to buy this food 2x a week because I'm actually emptying the stores of it (I guess it's not a common food) and can only get like 10 cans at a time. My question is, is there some better way to do this? I would like them to eat canned only if possible, but would feeding them dry half the day to cut down on cans really be that bad for them compared to canned only? I've also heard you could get monthly cat food deliveries - has anyone had experience with that? Is it reliable?

What kind of breed is my fucking dog? The closest I can guess is some sort of heeler/shepherd. I got her from a BYB about a year ago, they said she was blue heeler (I knew she wasn't, but the dog needed a home)

Is the White Swiss Shepherd dog the German Shepherd for patricians? I hate how German Shepherds are being bred just for the aestethics when they're a working breed.
Does anybody know if there's been any shift in perception on what the breed standard for German Shepherds should lool like? I know that there are some people that are breeding the German Shepherd to be more in line with the working dog standards and not just to be a show dog but is that going to influence the standard at large?
