For what do bats need eyes if they are blind?
>>2395731
To wear contacts&sunglasses.
That's actually a fruit bat and not a regular bat.

Bats actually have visual acuity around the same level as humans
URGENT: I found this wound-looking thing on my hamster's head and I don't know what it could exactly be or how could he do this to himself and I'm pretty worried. Any ideas?

Why make another thread if the other one is barely alive?
Today, I am putting my dog to sleep. She's almost 17 now and has had a good life in our home since she was a few months old puppy.
She has been getting slower lately, but a few days ago she really started struggling with movement. She can barely stand up by herself now and isn't eating or drinking much. She's been sleeping sprawled out on the floor, which she never does. She knows it's time and I think she's giving up.
She's been a good dog and I'm going to miss her. I'm just working up the strength to take her in for the final moments. I took this photo yesterday.
LOL that's hilarious. make a video when it kicks the bucket!
Sleep tight, pupper.
>>2394000
I'm certain she's a fantastic dog and you're a fantastic care-taker for her to have lived so long (many wonderful years). Sleep tight, pupper. You've been blessed by your heavenly trips.
I'm 5'0" and 100 lbs. I want to own an Akita like I grew up with. Can a person be too small to safely own a dog? How much is too much for someone my size?
One of my biggest fears is my dog becomes too sick or injured to walk, and I'm the only one around to carry it, which I may not be able to do.
>>2393917
It'll be nearly half your height. I wouldn't do it. Especially if it gets jumpy.
>>2393917
If it's something you want go hit the gym until you can handle it.
If little adolescent farm girls can carry over 100lbs on their shoulders I'm pretty sure almost anyone is capable of learning.
The bigger problem is you not being able to hold it back if it decided it wanted to fuck something up. If you want it to work out you need to be METICULOUS with your training

no but you might be

How do you feel about the increasingly large range of Gray Wolves?
>>2392911
>live in an are where they are supposed to be extinct
>recently there was a case of one appearing and killing a bunch of sheep over the course of weeks before getting shot
>>2392911
We have the hybrid eastern coyote/"Tweed wolf" which have taken their place for controlling deer and other animal pops. I don't expect wolves to return. Also fuck the word coywolf and anyone that says it.
>>2392911
That's a lotta woofers
I'm looking to start keeping chickens with the aim of developing own breed of dual purpose fowl. In the interest of keeping things as humane as possible I want to kill them using nitrogen asphyxiation. Does anyone here have experience with using it?
>>2392062
>Does anyone here have experience with using it?
Probably won't get a lot of responses.
Ive only researched it for use on myself.
>>2392062
Just snap their necks. It's far cheaper, easier and more humane.
Just in terms of legislation... The laws in regards to killing chickens with gas mix 90% argon/nitrogen/any other inert gas, maximum of 30% CO2, 2% O2. Even then I've read numerous studies suggesting adversion to the gas, and aphyixiation bradycardia (associated with pain in humans prior to having a heart attack).
You won't be able to get the gas mix correct with a homebrew method. Just crack their necks- faster for you and them.
Non-dinosaur prehistoric animals, please. Art, photomanipulations or taxidermy reconstructions.
Here is a Megantereon at (i think) the Natural History Museum of Basel in Switzerland. Sadly I can't find more photos but it looks like it's made from a modified lion pelt.
>>2391712
This is at someone's taxidermy shop and made from a liger pelt.
(Literal) Saber tooth tiger.
I want to kill my fish.
He has a bad case of inflated belly and he has been floating for quite some time now. Like, months. I tried soaking his food before feeding, starving him for a couple days, feeding him peas, all to no avail. I don't think he's gonna get better.
How do I kill him? I want it to be instant and painless. And by that I mean mostly painless for me.
>>2391667
Flush him.
>>2391671
Not while he's still alive.
>>2391675
Drowning is a pretty painless death.
Any /an/ related horror or encounter stories?
>Lived in the Arctic circle in Northern Canada
>Polar bears were known to come to town when hungry
>Everyone in town kept their doors unlocked in case people need to run in
>Most and if not all houses have heavy aluminum doors
>Huskies would howl or bark when bears were coming
>Mother always told me to look behind me when playing outside
>New years day
>Family gathering at my grandfathers
>Most of our family members there
>Cousin of ours runs into the house panicking
>Fucking polar bear chased him to the house
>Mother grabs me and brings my little brother and I into a bedroom
>Polar bear trying to get it's way into the house
>Several relatives are forcefully pushing on the door as the massive animal was trying to get in
>Remember the horror I felt while listening to the whole incident
>Hear a loud gun shot
>Silence fell, seemed like forever
>Never knew what happened to the bear
>Reoccurring nightmares of polar bears chasing me
The bears are afraid of shot guns and will often run away without hesitation. Rare incidents where they actually get killed. I remember that there were 6 of the bears in town once. Glad I moved back to southern Canada.
There used to be lot of feral dogs with rabies in out neighborhood, some kids got bitten and died.
Unfortunately for me i witnessed how someone dies from rabies, its terrifying heartbreaking especially for the parents.
Those time finally ended when all the "tie your dog or it gets shot" rule was implemented for a while and also the free anti-rabies drives.
>be me skiing in the Alps
>it's noon, and I'm on a difficult trail so there's nobody else around
>taking it slow
>get to a part of the trail where it evens out for a few metres
>hear rumbling from the woods to my left
>stop in my tracks
>2 seconds later a whole herd of deer run out of the woods going at fucking ballistic speed
>they cross the trail and enter the woods to my right
>It was all over in the blink of an eye, I wasn't even sure it happened for real until I checked the ground and saw their tracks
>>2380365
>zero dark thirty somewhere in NC
>pulling rear security for my squad and see what I thought was a deer moving behind our position
>it moves out of shadow and into moon light and I see the shoulders rise and fall as it slowly moves
>it's not a fucking deer
>through my nods, I see that fucking long ass thick tail confirming what I know it has to be
>a fucking mountain lion is stalking my squad
>we have no live ammo so we take off the blank adapters and jam a cleaning rod in the barrel to serve as a projectile
>the mountain lion stops in the shadows about 20 meters away, and watches us, then it slowly moves away heading towards a sister squad
>nobody believes me when I call it in and warn them
Never would have expected to see a mountain lion that far east, but one of the boys in the platoon saw a dead one there in NC when he was going through sere school.
How do you guys bathe a young dog or two months without it freaking out? I could use input here.
The pup seems calm at first when placed in the water but then freaked right the hell out and starting screaming like the world had come to an end.
Much shallower water to start. And a nonslip pad on the bottom of the tub. Use handheld shower nozzle.
>>2380258
This.
I always started my puppies/kittens in the sink with just 3 or 4 inches of warm water and a cup to slowly pour the water over their back.
Always cover their eyes and ears when pouring it on their head, both to keep it out and allow them to trust that you won't hurt them with the water.
Take the dog out, wait a day or two, and try this again but with a towel sitting nearby and some meaty treats like boiled chicken to give to him while he's in the water.
When your done, wrap them up in the towel and gently rub them dry, then put them in a warm crate or warm room with a nice blanket or bed to dry off on.
Dog will become super calm with bath time because it's so comfy.
