Why are fights between two female dogs so fucking vicious? When male dogs fight, it's generally over the pecking order. However, when two females fight, it seems it's because one of both of them want the other dead.

Does they really want to kill each other, and if so, why? How does this benefit the species? If that's not the reason, why the brutality?

FvF dog fights cause more injuries and fatalities than any other match up. It boggles my mind.

My dog gets very car sick in like the first 5 minutes that Im driving all the way until the end. Ive tried many multiple ways to take him in cars but nothing works. The problem is we have a road trip coming up soon, I have no choice but to drive with him but its at least a 12 hour drive. I feel terrible, my question is does anyone know of a good over the counter medication to give him? Ive seen both formulas for dogs and ones for humans but I dont know the dosages. He's about 15 lbs. Halp.

Do you own a Saturn car?

Chemicals and odors are implanted into many housewife cars, even jeeps, that create EXTREME nausea and mental distraction.

No, I'm not sure why. I just know your dog might not be carsick, but might be sick from the chemicals they slather on the leather and seats. They make me VERY sick, two minutes and I'm vomiting.

My friend's co-worker has to give away an Akita because it bit a kid apparently so it's either that or it gets euthanized. It's 3 years old already and I hear you gotta train them young so they become a follower and not try to be the "alpha dog." How much trouble would it be to take in a dog like this?

From what I hear the kid was antagonizing the dog and it nipped him. But this is what I heard from a friend who heard from his co-worker so I'm not sure if the actual case. Apparently it was the first time the dog had done anything like that though.

I was dumbfounded. I had never
seen a wild coyote that close, and the only thing that occurred to me at that moment was
to talk to it. I began as one would talk to a friendly dog. And then I thought that the
coyote "talked" back to me. I had the absolute certainty that it had said something. I felt
confused but I did not have time to ponder upon my feelings, because the coyote "talked"
again. It was not that the animal was voicing words the way I am accustomed to hearing
words being voiced by human beings, it was rather a
"feeling" that it was talking. But it was not like a feeling that one has when a pet seems
to communicate with its master either. The coyote actually said something; it relayed a
thought and that communication came out in something quite similar to a sentence. I had
said, "How are you, little coyote?" and I thought I had heard the animal respond, "I'm all
right, and you?" Then the coyote repeated the sentence and I jumped to my feet. The
animal did not make a single movement. It was not even startled by my sudden jump. Its
eyes were still friendly and clear. It lay down on its stomach and tilted its head and asked,
"Why are you afraid?" I sat down facing it and I carried on the weirdest conversation I had
ever had. Finally it asked me what I was doing there and I said I had come there to "stop
the world." The coyote said, "Que bueno!"
and then I realized that it was a bilingual
coyote. The nouns and verbs of its sentences were in English, but the conjunctions and
exclamations were in Spanish. The thought crossed my mind that I was in the presence of
a Chicano coyote. I began to laugh at the absurdity of it all and I laughed so hard that I
became almost hysterical. Then the full weight of the impossibility of what was
happening struck me and my mind wobbled. The coyote stood up and our eyes met. I
stared fixedly into them. I felt they were pulling me and suddenly the animal became
iridescent; it began to glow

what do you think about this ?

My dog ate small amount of onions is it ok?
info:
sauteed a diced onion in pan
removed almost all onions, left behind a few tiny pieces that i couldn't scrape
added a bunch (2 lbs?) of meat to pan
cooked the meat. I ate half the meat
Took the chunks of leftover meat and gave them to my 13 lb minipin and 70ish lb doberman. they didn't eat out of the pan, i took the chunks and put them into separate bowls

when i realized what i did i took away the food but they'd already eaten a few chunks of the meat each. would there be enough onion in the meat chunks to poison my dogs? i already gave them some vanilla ice cream and hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting successfully (both), but i didn't see meat chunks in the vomit. though the meat could have been chewed and mixed with the ice cream

The Doberman should be fine. A dog that size would probably need to eat an entire onion, if not more, to get sick.

Keep an eye on the minpin. It sounds like they had just a few little bites of onion, which shouldn't hurt him. Onion isn't something where if a 100 pound dog has a tiny piece of diced onion they'll die in an hour.
>>
It's not that deadly on it's own unless in huge amounts. Yes it hurts their thyroid and such, but it's comparable to us humans and alcohol. How much you have and how long you have been having it will give a pretty good indicator of what you can expect to see in the future.

Now, if it were a huge bar of very dark chocolate or raisins, then I would say to watch your dog and possibly call up your vet.

update from op
I've been watching both of the dogs closely ever since the incident.
Both have vomited multiple times. I saw multiple vomit piles from both dogs with all the meat chunks.
I cleaned the vomit piles up as soon as I encountered them so that neither would try to eat it again.
I'm pretty sure they both threw everything up.
They both vomited multiple times in multiple places. I'm waiting for them to stop throwing up before letting them back in.

I read up somewhere, apparently 5g garlic per lb of body weight is toxic to dogs, and onion is less toxic than that. I know that neither of them got close to that amount. I'm pretty relieved right now given that neither of them ate an apparently toxic amount, and both vomited everything they'd ate.

Right so. Just waiting for them to stop vomiting so I can give them baths. Then feed them their dinners in an hour or two. Thanks for the replies guys, helps my anxiety. Thanks

Um... I'm not too sure where else to ask this but, could someone give me some advice about owning a Parakeet? Should I get a male or female, should I get two instead of one? I've never owned a bird before, so I'm a little clueless...

>>
Been a while since I read up on budgies or birds in general, but I seem to recall that if you get one, it'll bond to you better, but will require more daily attention and interaction with you. Two birds will bond more closely to each other but will also keep each other entertained.
There should be plenty of budgie forums with stickied noob info around if /an/ isn't delivering.
>>
>>2395533
Ahh, That's what I thought. I wouldn't want it to get lonely, so I'll try to look into getting two!

I also tried rummaging around with what google gave me, but I got different answers from different people.. (I.e. Sandpaper perches are good for birds, sandpaper perches are NOT good for them..)
>>
>>2395942
No sandpaper perches! They will just scratch up the birds feet and hurt them.

Male and female you can't tell apart with 100% certainty unless you get them dna tested. Males seem to make more noise though. Females can become eggbound.

Hey /an/, new to the board. I recently got the idea to get a dog. I'm starting a new full-time job with a 45 minute commute in about 2 weeks so right now is not realistic, but I will be moving closer (~10 minute commute) this fall. That should give me plenty of time to really think it through.

I'd like to get a puppy or young-ish dog. I guess I'm just trying to get some advice on realistic expectations. I'm looking for a dog I can walk maybe 3 or 4 times a day, 30 minutes each, with a more intense exercise (30-45 minute run or something) once or twice a week. I'd really like to get maybe a black lab or cattle dog or a mix but I'm pretty inexperienced with this and not sure if the lifestyle I just described would work with one of these breeds. I definitely don't want a tiny dog but don't want an enormous dog either. I guess I'm just looking for some ideas about breeds and dog age and seeing if what I'm describing is realistic - walk before work, during lunch break, after work and another later at night, of course with the option of more active weekends. I probably will be raising him on my own, no one that I know lives near me that would be able to take him for walks (unless I paid someone to do it). Can anyone provide some guidance? I'm guessing a complete puppy that still needs to be potty trained is out of the question, but how young could I realistically go?

Pic kind of related, my friend's dog on the left, love the look of him.

No younger than 8 weeks, get a German Shepherd or an Australian Shepherd, both of which are intelligent and top quality dogs for almost anyone with australian shepherds being not too big. 30 minutes 3-4 times a day is quite a bit but there's a lot of active breeds. I'd even suggest a husky with that amount of activity but your climate and experience would matter
>>
>>2395423
Just to clarify - I'm not the most active person, but I'd be fine with 30 mins 3-4 times a day (I do run on weekends and I'm all around fit). Less exercise is honestly kind of better, but I understand that a dog is not a house plant so I'm fully willing to dedicate that type of time to going outside with it. I personally love Australian shepherds, my family had two for about a week each before sending them back to the shelter because they were just too active/crazy for them... they possibly had aggression problems already from their past life, but either way I used to love running with them for the short time that we had them (fuck you mom, you didn't even try).

My biggest concern is them staying at home for 4 hours at a time while I'm at work and them getting lonely/feeling neglected.
>>
May not want a young puppy because they can only hold their bladder 1 hour for every month they are in age, and stops areoun 8 to 10 months. You could have someone watch him while at work, bring him to daycare or take a week or so off. But it may confuse them as they will get used to pissing and shitting indoors. Also read up on training BEFORE you get a dog. https://www.youtube.com/user/kikopup does a lot with pups

One thing is to really do your research on the breeds and more so on the breeders. Buying from a reputable breeder will cost more than a BYB but it will save you money in the long run and a lot of heart break. I know looks can be tempting but try not to pick a dog on looks alone. It usually does not end well. Honestly a dog breeder worth their salt will be able to tell you more about the breed than anyone here can, they will be able to tell you if it's a good fit or not and will point you towards the right direction if it doesn't work out.

This is weird, it's resting with its wings folded up like a butterfly.

Eh, a lot of moths don't even have mouths. The most important thing when keeping bugs is to keep a piece of wet paper in with it so it can get water. Even if it can eat, insects die faster without water than without food.

This little guy is really cute. I swear I've seen something like this before, I just can't remember where and what.
