Could someone please help with Bird ID?

I believe this is a ruby throated hummingbird, but its sitting on a Bristlecone Pine Tree at Mt Evans, CO. That would be hundreds of miles from its range. Took this picture yesterday.

It could be a magnificent hummingbird. Upon zooming in on your photo the throat appears to be black, not red. Usually with magnificent hummingbirds their throats have a blue shine to them but at rest it appears black.

>A five-year-old girl had to undergo surgery after getting attacked by a dog in Surrey, Saturday evening.
>The little girl was walking to a store with family members when neighbours say the Rottweiler escaped from a home and started attacking her.
>Another neighbour was also taken to hospital after running over and fighting off the dog.
>Yung Qi doesn’t know if he’ll have full function of his hand after saving the girl.

To be fair, that was a Surrey Rottweiler, so it was probably a criminal.
That little girl was probably also a criminal. Everything from surrey is trash.

While camping in middle TN last weekend I heard this remarkably loud bird that im trying to identify. The call would start up around sundown and persist until early morning. It was two seperate, clear, loud as shit whistles(i say whistle, but it wasnt something a human could reproduce) which would be answered by the same call from far away. It was quick, each "whistle" was maybe 0.5 sec long.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
-At one point the bird was right in our campsite. i was walking over to get a closer look and i guess i spooked it but hopped off its branch, clapped its wings(very loudly, like someone knocking two clubs wrapped in cloth together) and made this crazy fucking guttural/vibrating noise like nothing ive ever heard as it flew off.
-From my brief glimpse it looked a lot like pic related(nighthawk) but i cant find any videos or recordings that sound like the loud two-syllable call this one was making.
-This bird did not dive in order to make the loud vibrating/guttural sound
-this is not the call i heard: https://youtu.be/E-_CDXH9qhY

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to provide enough information for someone to be able to help.

It did sound similar to that, but it was only 2 syllables. And for what its worth the bird was kind big, like crow-sized

Soft tissue has now been found in several Brachylophosaurus specimens, a triceratops, and a couple Tyrannosaurus. Just collagen though, last I checked.

Give us more detail. Where's you find it, what's it smell like, is it sticky, picture of a whole mushroom (including the stem base), etc.
The most I can tell you, given that you've given us little to no detail about the mushroom, it that it's a dark spored agaric. Maybe somewhere in the bolbitiaceae, strophariaceae, or gomphidiaceae.

Well, my garden used to be a swamp. So I guess there's a lot of nutrients. The grass is always trimmed and short, and the mud is a dark colour. It's usually raining here, but it's been sunny for the past couple days. As for the mushrooms, they've been disposed of. But I am still curious as to what they are. I have no pictures of a single mushroom, but for comparison, you can see grass in that tub too. That gives the general size.

I am looking to start a small, indoor ant colony. It would be really nice if I could capture a queen from my area to start it. What species in Oregon would work in a 10 gallon tank, and at what season could I find queens?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
This is the perfect time, go outside before it's too late! Pavement queens are the easiest to take care of but hard to identify their queens.
>>
>>2398226
Define small. Most any colonies, even when they're highly developed, take up next to no space.

Also, you can't just put a colony in a tank. They need a formicarium of some sort.
>>
>>2398248
Ten gallon-sized.
I was going to look up what the species needed after getting a species recommendation.

>>2398246
Pavement queens? What species is that? I see plenty of ant colonies in the cracks of pavement if that's what you are talking about. I see them having massive wars right now, don't know that I've seen any queens. What do they look like?

Just bought some Wal-Mart brand cat food, on the lable it says garlic is an ingredient and claims garlic is a "nutritious" vegetable. I've read numerous times how toxic garlic is to pets, cats especially. Is it safe to feed pet food with garlic to my cats? More importantly, isn't claiming garlic to be "nutritious" misleading packaging/false advertising?

Thanks so much for your attached photo! I'm working on transitioning them to raw this year. The ingredients are:

"Chicken meal, brown rice, dehulled barley, rye, chicken fat (stabilized mixed tocopherols), chicken, millet, oat meal, natural flavour, tomatoes, whole dried egg, salmon meal, salmon oil, cranberries, alfalfa, spinach, broccoli, sweet potatoes, apple, blueberries, pears, bananas, phosphoric acid, brewers yeast, dl-methionine, taurine, calcium sulphate, salt, inulin, vitamins and minerals (Vitamin E, Vitamin C, niacin, inositol, Vitamin A, thiamine mononitrate, d-calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin, vitamin k, beta-carotene, Vitamin D3, folic acid, biotin, Vitamin B12, zinc proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc oxide, iron proteinate, copper sulfate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, calcium iodate, sodium selenite), yucca schidigera, cinnamon, turmeric, capsicum, chamomile, dandelion, paprika, garlic, rosemary extract"

Someone could probably sue them for claiming garlic is "nutritious". Thanks for your help

Why don't animals have pubic hair?

>>
Why do humans only have pubic hair?
>>
>>2397961
Because most other animals aren't freaks like humans. Humans even still have the physical mechanisms to make hair stand on end, when it's largely no longer relevant because we have so little hair compared to our ancestors.

Some people are crying because they say humans provoque animals exctiction. I'm not saying they are wrong but why is it so terrible to have something like 1 million different species instead of the 8 millions we think there are in the world.
I know diversity is important to some people but a million is still a lot.
And why is it terrible that some weird rare amazonian species with no special thing go exctinct?

There is no good or bad. If something happens it happens. From a purely darwinistic view you deserve everything that happens to you (assuming that the concept of deserving anything eve applies). So yeah, the animals that adapt to humanity should live and the ones that don't can go fuck themselves.

Maybe because losing a few species here and there might not be a big deal but losing so many species is a warning that something is wrong.

It's basically the biological equivalent of a canary in the coal mine.
