But why around the shoulders?
Has anyone here ever adopted a cat that had been previously abused? Ive had Yoda for about two years now but he is still very skiddish around me. He hates being picked up and when people are too close to him. Compared to others, he loves me, but even the slightest movememt will have him darting to another room. He even got outside once amd I couldnt get withing 20 yards of him. Does anyone have any tips on how to help him get over his fears? Or will he stay like this for the rest of his life? Hes around 9 y.o. now fyi
Cats take a long time to adjust.
I've had my cat for 6 years since it was a wee little kitten. first two years it wouldn't so much as walk over my leg. He would jump over me to get to the foot of my bed to sleep. The next two years he started to get more comfortable with it. Pressing his paw on my leg or belly making sure the footing was right before quickly walking over me. Now at 6 years in the last 4 or 5 months he will walk on me and once in a blue moon lay down on me.
With cats, trust just takes a really long time to build. Short of playing with the cat everyday, and feeding it next to you there isn't much else you can do. A cat like that can destroy years of built up trust instantly just by you accidentally stepping on it's tail.
People always jump to the conclusion of abuse, but in reality plenty of cats are like this because they were simply undersocialized as kittens. Probably spent a significant portion of their most impressionable years as ferals.

Er, not years - weeks.

If they could pass that skill on to other animals!
>>2407956
Now if only animals could learn to avoid the fucking road with vehicles on it instead of running into traffic.
>>2407957
I imagine some do. Seems like most generations of animals have a few who adapt to new situations...
All an article like that is doing is putting crosshairs on that elk.
Any hunter who reads that is gonna want to be the one to get that elk.
>get up in the morning and open the front door
>see a dead baby rabbit with its severed head a few inches away being utterly consumed by a truck load of ants
>suddenly I hear a rustling beneath some plants planted near the house
>another baby rabbit pops out
>reach out to bet it but then realize something is definitely wrong with it
>its head is constantly cocked to one side as it walks around and is clearly not afraid of me in the slightest, which is definitely off. It also runs in a tight circle over and over again like it's drunk
>back away slowly
Well, that was an interesting morning. Wonder how the rabbit died and what the fuck was wrong with the second.

Brain damage
Remember there may be many more rabbits or corpses left
>>2407951
I'd say water in the brain or ear infection. Rabbits are very prone to ear infections.
My bird has two of his tail feathers missing and has been molting alot lately. Is this a sign of him being sick or is it natural?
Looks fine to me but if you wanna be sure:

Birb looks good. Take to vet if you see signs like half-closing eyes, sitting on the bottom of the cage instead of perching, frequently puffing out feathers, etc.

Hello /an/ons, I need your help right now, or rather, this little fellow needs you.
I have just found it and do not know how to take care of it.
It must have fallen from the nest or something, and seems completely lost. It was hoping around, a cat nearly ate him.
It is rather energetic but one of his wings hangs lower than the other, making me think that it must be injured in some way.
Anyway, if one of you could help me identify what kind of bird it is and help me with some tips to take care of it, it would be greatly appreciated.
If it helps, I live in the South East of France.

it's a brown wrencluse
put the cat inside and put the bird back.
>older brother has pet king snake when you're a toddler

>Leave tortoise in your will
>Get a puppy when you're old and gray
>Dog still dies before you
Why is life so fucking unfair, /an/?
And the longest lived dogs are shitty ones like Chihuahuas while your mastiff or great dane can keel over at age 5.

Ah, seriously? They have so few legs though... But you're right, is dead ringer. That was my first thought, but I have no experience with anything that doesn't kill me.
I wish there was a surefire way to get them to fuck off though.

Mammals need to be nerfed. Even the whole "needing to breath oxygen thing" hasn't phased us.

What would a world without rats and roaches be like? Better or worse?
>>2407411
worse
/thread
Much worse. Important parts of food chains and can play very important roles. We think of them so badly as they happen to thrive through our waste so have become over represented in their positions in the world and nature.
roaches are also very diverse and the world would have a lot of beautiful creatures ripped from it if all roaches were wiped out.
A world without rats for raptors and snakes would be like a world without cows or chickens for humans. There are birds and lizards that feed on roaches too.
