So we are going to adopt a pair of cats to keep outside/in our garage for pest control. They will not be in the house, and they won't be 'pets' in the general sense, but basically strictly for pest control.
However, we aren't just going to throw them outside and not tend to them. I'm going to be caring for them for small wounds, only taking them to the vet if they have a serious injury, and providing wet food and clean water+warm/cool shelter.
The only thing that I am currently trying to figure out is a cheap flea and tick control for them. In the past, I have noticed that flea collars don't seem to really help (unless maybe I was getting a shitty brand?), and neither did the frontline drops.
What is a good flea control that I could find in any pet store, or farm supply store, and that is relatively cheap?
>buying pests for pest control
really gets the niggler noggin
also, cats are garbage pest control. their food and toxoplasmosis will just attract and enable even more pests

Nice meme friend.
Know of any good flea control that I don't have to go to the vet to get?
>Diatomaceous Earth
Has anybody had luck with this stuff?
I'VE BEEN BITTEN
Last night I was awoken by a painful stinging sensation in my chest - I immediately jumped out of bed and looked for the suspect insect that stung me. A wasp perhaps?
>nothing
>not a sound
Eventually I overturned my entire bedsheets and all I found was a small spider corpse, all squished up and dead
I am 90% certain it was pic related
The bite was pretty painful and it has noticeably swollen up. Still feels sensitive now, almost 24 hours later
>>2414234
So? You'll be fine.
>>2414235
Fuck you I'll be fine
It ruined my night's sleep and I've spent the entire day at work with mild discomfort
THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BEAST IS A THREAT TO US ALL
That's so vague that you probably... didn't get bitten at all. Not by a wasp nor by a spider.
Otherwise you'd be able to locate where you've been bitten/stung, and then we could try to figure out what kind of animal it could have been.
That reminds me of an argument I had with a coworker a couple of years ago regarding how he got bitten by... a fucking cranefly. He literally mistook it brushing against his legs for it biting him.
What are the smartest individual insects? Can bugs have personalities?
I have a couple of jumping spiders living on the side of my house and they seem so aware as I get to know them.
jumping spiders have great vision. they look aware because they can see you very well
>>2414168
>jumping spider
>insect
>What are the smartest individual insects?
Their nervous systems work very differently from us. They are intelligent in a different way too. They don't think but still can make very intelligent decisions. It's more of a cleverly designed circuit that allows them to do that than pure processing power like in us. Think of it like optimized hardware for doing specific tasks instead of having unomptimized hardware but with a lot of computing power.
Also read this if you're actually serious about learning this stuff.

>Can bugs have personalities?
Yes, anyone that has owned a few invertebrates can tell you that. Here's some actual proof though:

Cool
Not op but this looks interesting
Thanks
Woofer had to be put down a couple of days ago. He was a little over twelve years old, and had developed congestive heart failure. His breathing was very labored and he could hardly move--- it was definitely his time but I'm having trouble internalizing that he's really gone.
My parents had been out of town for four days or so (leaving the puppers with a family friend) and came back to find him like this. They put him down the next day, the vet said "he waited for you to get home so he could say goodbye".
Please post only the finest of woofers to honor this adonis of dogs, who is chasing deer and squirrels up in heaven now. Pic related is him, before he got sick.
This is him and his sister, just a month or two old at the time. His sister is still alive (just over twelve years old also).
Chillin in the pool on a hot Texas day. They were the best of buds. I worry his sister is gonna be lonely now.
Sorry to hear. How has the other pupper been acting?
check out this cutie
weeeeeee
Can some1 identify it?

It's (You) anon.

I want to say great frigate bird chick. I'm no expert though. I'm basing it on the the white fluffy down, light colored face, and the nest of twigs built on the plant.

What do you think about crows, /an/?
I think they are pretty chill.
They get pretty close at my work, and only really move over if I get within a foot of them.
But that's probably because I'm a courtesy clerk, and they know I'm only outside to get the carts.
I do try and yank them out an old donut or bagel whenever the compost is full outside, so that probably helps too.
>>2412989
It's probably because they recognize your face, anon.
There's a raven I feed, named him Jason he hangs at a cemetery tree because nobody does anything to him there and sometimes he brings back shiny things if I feed him

Discuss anything aquarium related here, including inhabitants, decor and issues.
Google is your friend.
Feel free to ask questions but know that there are a lot of resources out there that could answer your question a lot faster and accurately than /an/.
Make sure to include these things in your post before asking because we can't help you if we don't have the full picture:
-tank size (include dimensions, not just volume)
-parameters (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, pH, GH, KH)
-any and all inhabitants + how long you've had them

So this little shit decided he was just gonna move his way on into my tank.
I went to pour some water in and he was just clinging to the side of the filter.
>>2412963
But, since it was 98F on my porch yesterday, I can't really blame him.
I guess I'll let him chill till summer is over.
Oh, also, I added three neon tetras in there.
I know, I know-schooling fish, they need six or more, but it's only a five gallon, and so far they haven't really stuck together. I mean, they did the first day, but now they just flit about and play in the moss sometimes.

Why are pigeons so successful in urban areas?
What gives them the upper hand over say, magpies, which are smarter and quicker?
Their willingness to eat garbage.
>>2411978
So do magpies.
>>2411977
they breed like niggers
Are sharks mean? why can't one be friends with a shark like they can with dogs/dolphins/polar bears etc
serious question, and do they have emotions like dogs do?
shitty bait
>>2410879
That's right, OP. They're cute, cuddle, and loving animals just like dogs. You should go up and hug one ASAP.

Very cool looking animal, i love crabs they are really underrated in my opinion.

Don't jump to conclusions like that anon
After I saw stuff about these spiders I can't fucking see or eat oreos anymore.
Didn't help to read about the accidentally baked in spiders in some oreos a few days later.

these are overadvertised to the point of zombifying people is why I avoid them
it's a cheapo 90s kid food, not some patriotic symbol stahp
