Hey guys, can you help me identify this?
Spotted in Canada, Québec, Quebec City.

Its abdomen is yellow in color.
It flies, almost drunkenly.
They tend to hold near neon lighting.
Apparently it bites or stings.

Any idea?

Fun fact, the presence of plecopterans (stoneflies) is a good indicator that local waters are clean with high O2 concetrations!

That's called a Rapist Fly. Old folklore stories say they only appear around people that have been, or will be raped.

My dog, a lab, has had this ball hanging on her ass for 2-3 years and it finally busted. It has fatty tissue coming out but not bleeding, Anyone have same thing happen to them? I cant find a picture of it on google, but im 90% sure its not her anal gland. It hurts to see my dog like this, had her for 14 years but cant afford my town vet.

It's a tumour and it will cost you less than $200 to simply cut off. Despite how the vets make it sound, you do not have to get all the recommended shots and wellness exam. Just make it clear to them that you are short on cash, and you can only afford minor surgery to get it cut off.

They may, however, demand a rabies vaccine if that isn't current, but for that you can simply go to any caravan (travelling poor mans vet) and have them administer a rabies. Then bring to the paperwork to your vet that you want to get the tumour removed with.
>>
>>2416565
They are required by law to make the dog get a rabies vaccine. Most places actually need to do the vaccine before the surgery. Or, they need proof the animal is UTD on rabies

I've never posted here, didn't even this board existed desu, only just noticed it from the homepage.

I wanted to ask something about dogs. tl:dr - how come dogs have so much personality?

Why are dogs seemingly the only species that can display emotion and personality? And not only this, but also the fact that they seem to have some sort of sense of self-awareness and understanding when it comes to their relationship with humans. I mean they are raised to be domesticated pets surrounded by people, but even when they are puppies they display this quality. And this wouldn't really apply to something like a domesticated goat or something, at least not anywhere near to the extent of dogs.

So there must be an evolutionary basis for their behavior right? But really how long have dogs been domesticated? A few thousand years or so I guess. Is that really long enough for dogs to develop this innate behavioral pattern? I guess I could also ask, what are (solitary) wolves like around humans, and what are they like having been domesticated from birth?

And also, to what extent is a dogs display of personality and emotion genuine? As opposed to an evolutionary survival strategy they have developed in order to jew more treats from their master?

And yeah of course dogs may not be the sole species of animal that are capable of this. Maybe you can sense if a rabbit is upset or a dolphin looks like it's smiling. Even cats seem to have some semblance of personality. But we can all agree dogs are far and away the most obvious species that has these qualities.

Wut?
How about
Apes
Elephants
Big Cats
Little Cats
Pigs (very intelligent)
( mammals in general I would argue)
Some birds, crows and parrots come to mind
>how long dogs domesticated
Somewhere around 25,000 - 30,000 years
Check this link
Very cool about domestication of dogs

Yes I completely agree with you. I had a Golden Retriever and I have a St Bernard/Bernese Mountain Dog. They both display genuine affection to me. And they actually have totally different personalities !
>>
>>2415562
Not an expert but it seems to be selection over thousands of years rather than intelligence alone. Presumably, wolves are about as smart as dogs and they have a rough time with domestication even from an early age. So, as humans started using dogs for hunting, protection, etc. They bread the ones that understood human cues the best and eventually you get something like a modern dog. I think everything a dog does is genuine. Like if they do something to get treats, they aren't thinking about pulling one over on you, they just think "hey this is what I do if I want a treat." But I think they lack the planning ability to make the entire relationship with humans manipulative.

>The average size of the male western lowland gorilla's reproductive organ is typically between 30–40 cm (12–16 in) inches long, and it stops growing after a few years of age

Gorillas are manlets though.

Separation anxiety forces dogs to find something to break to relieve a fit of boredom and longing that boarders on a psychotic episode. It doesn't know that something like paper is valuable(homework) and animals tend to regard new objects as expendable as older objects tend to last. If anything, dogs aren't spiteful, they just rely erroneously on instincts to determine what is least important to you yet accessible. Its an oxytocin addiction. Giving them stimulation when away and giving them a clear option that not cuddling or touching is not a time out will help immensely. This deters them from always seeking you as a oxytocin high but as a being they come to respect and look to for authority. There is a strong competition between parents which spoil their children and those who simply want to treat their child as their own person. Its fair to say we and animals are products of both nature and nurture. While we are reminded constantly of the negative consequences of neglect, we often as a society ignore the predominantly psychological negative consequences of overcomfort. For humans who can convey context, laziness and contentment are the most symptomatic. But for dogs, who can't be told to count backwards from 10 to release stress or reassured you will always be back, overcomfort will cause them to look at you in 2 ways. First as a food giver, and secondly a source of comfort where they can "recharge". So you have to ask, does my dog still love me for me with that doggy unconditional love, or is it just using up its and your lives doing a routine? And have I literally become like a mailman who shows up to do a job everyday to play and play nurse? As Siddhartha after being a starving hermit heard a fisherman say iirc, "Too loose and the knot will break, to tight and it will not play." Lifeforms struggle but thrive stronger for it to find balance. Emotional attachment is fine but EVERYTHING should be made aware of its right to personal space.

Stupid pic, the dog is not stressed, it's submissive, getting tired of people thinking that a certain behavior means just one thing , ie tail wagging means happy, no its not you lil shits.
Also tldr
>>
>>2416075
>not stressed, it's submissive
Yes, that dog is likely stressed (though a still shot picture will always be less accurate for judgment than a video, for instance.) This dog doesn't look happy and wiggly, he looks stiff and uncomfortable.

Showing submission/calming signals while being physically loomed over is a result of stress, anon. They're called appeasement gestures for a reason. Dog wants you to chill out.

>ie tail wagging means happy, no its not you lil shits
Correct, it just means arousal. Depending on context and other body language signals, it could mean excitement or it could mean stress, aggression, etc. Context is important.

I posted this on /adv/ wondering why nobody answered lol

Does anyone have experience with aggressive dogs?

I'm taking care of a friend dog while he moves out of country.

For some fucking reason the dog wants to attack every single dog he sees no matter if it's a stillborn or a female puppy.

I've had him for 2 weeks already and I'm losing patience, dog age is around 2 years. I think it's a mutt but I could be wrong(breed matters right?).

Dump the dog in a shelter, say he's aggressive.
Kill your friend.
>>
>>2415482
Wouldn't they put the dog down though?

Only case where doggo hasn't been aggressive is when I took him to the veterinary, there were other dogs there but he didn't even react as usual.

There's also the previous neighbor dog which he seems to be fine around.
>>
>>2415487
No, they'd put it up for adoption with a "hates other dogs" note, or try to train it out of him.

Does anyone else have a pet (dog especially) with seizures

I had a red heeler with seizures a while back, yeah.

Used to feed her vanilla ice cream on vet's orders. Apparently vanilla ice cream helps.
>>

Solamine is destroyed when fried in oil, or even coated in oil and roasted. Some other cooking methods leave it behind, but it's no concern, eaten many taters and only had one incident.

Many mammals, a huge number have seizures. Most dogs do, but few cats do.
>>
Ive got a dachshund with siezures, copious amounts of pot and an ice pack does the trick
