Discuss anything aquarium related here, including inhabitants, decor and issues.

Google is your friend.
Feel free to ask questions but know that there are a lot of resources out there that could answer your question a lot faster and accurately than /an/.

Make sure to include these things in your post before asking because we can't help you if we don't have the full picture:
-tank size (include dimensions, not just volume)
-parameters (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, pH, GH, KH)
-any and all inhabitants + how long you've had them

all the bird obsessed people I know are women
>>
At least they usually aren't furries and have genuine knowledge and interest in them.

I like birds a lot myself. I always liked them but it took off after hanging out with a sad old women at a nursing home as a kid when I was visiting my grandma. She would sit outside alone as soon as she could just watching birds and I was allowed to bring my cockatiel and dog at the time because my grandma loved them. Word got out and we were visiting most of them with them and old bird lady would write down and draw all the birds she saw and talk to me about them. She taught me more about my own bird too.

They are all dead now.

I find various websites and breeders straight up contradicting each other about some traits, what to do?
Right now i'm eyeing Chinooks as they seem to posses the characteristics i'm looking for:
-Not too prone to chasing critters and wandering (it would spend most of its time unleashed and near the woods)
-Healthy
-Tolerates cold
-Doesn't bark constantly
-Smart and affectionate (on this note the sources were particularly uncertain)
-medium to large size
Other suggestions are welcome, praise the doggos

Made my day, thank you

So I'm getting a dog and these are the 2 breeds I like the most, and I'm not sure which one to get. A border collie is my dream dog but the biggest con with it would be its size, since I live in a small apartment.

I would like to read your experiences with these breeds. I'm mostly interested in an intelligent and trainable dog since I'm planning on teaching them a lot of tricks and taking them to agility classes (not professionally, but mostly to compensate for my lack of yard.)

Hello OP.
JRTs aren't very good for apartments despite their small stature. They like big spaces to run, and that includes within their home. It can work if you make it work, of course. Additionally, they're naturally very noisy and I can see it becoming a problem with your neighbors.

With JRTs, you can take them to that agility class then for a 10 mile jog and they'll still have energy.
If you're someone who has an active lifestyle, either will be great for you.
If you aren't planning on an active lifestyle and expect a lot of down-time chilling at home with your dog at your feet.. you'd be doing both breeds an injustice.

Also consider their breeds' purposes. A Border Collie was meant to herd and a JRT was meant to hunt. This makes a BC easier to manage as they have a job and you can easily substitute herding with other work-like activities, whereas JRTs don't have a specific place to put their energy--they just want to run and chase and kill animals smaller than them.

BCs were bred for obedience. JRTs were not. JRTs are trainable because they respond well to reward, not because they want to please you.

(I don't have experience with BCs and do not speak from experience.)

Honestly, JRTs suck and I'll never do it again. I love them, but never again. They're fun, so affectionate, and very funny.
I was 13 when I got my first one. I'm 27 now and my current JRTs are 11 years old. They STILL have more energy than my 10 month old Chow Chow.
If I got a JRT puppy/young adult, I know for a fact that I wouldn't be able to keep up anymore.

Ok, uniform lack of ANY hair, salamander flattened face NO facial bone structure, digging front feet and mammalian back legs with a short pig like tail. Everyone in the neighborhood in East Moriches, NY Long Island. We are where TWA blew up, near Brookhaven Lab, Plum Island Animal Testing, and submarine bases and...we can't figure it out. It was washed near a creeks mouth very heavy and VERY thick muck nearly 30 feet down. Decomposition hadn't even started when I found it. It's creeped me and dozens ever since because what the hell? I'm guessing it's an elaborate prank or prairie dog, but near the bay through swamp? No facial bones?...look and idk figure it out cause idk.

So had a house fire and new apartment does not allow cats. However I was told if I write a letter I might be able to get him in.

trouble is my LA sucks.I was hoping to get some help writing the letter.

he's 15 years old very friendly, lazy and loves to be cleaned. He is also well trained.

for the last 5 months my mom has held onto him but is trying to get rid of him. so I REALLY need to get my cat back I've had for 15years.

Just write he's old and quiet and close to dying. Also write that he has nowhere else to go.

If whoever reads it is an old person they'll relate to it and let the cat in.
If whoever reads it is an adult they'll relate to it since they've put their dying rotting mom or dad on an asylum to be forgotten so they'll want you to stay with your cat.
If whoever reads it is a teenager they'll be moved and let the cat in too.
