A hostess isn't actually a prositute. I'm Chinese (girl) and an familiar with this concept. One of my Viet friends is a hostess in a Viet club. Basically the hostesses are waitresses that have to treat the guys like kings and sit at their table if they request and make small talk and fawn over the dude. Sometimes they can get handsy and inappropriately touch them but that's why they get tipped well. Hostesses aren't actual prostitues. I'm trying to think of a similar American thing....I've never been to a party type nightclub, but you know those movies with club scene were there are girls dancing in cages? No one has sex with them but they're meant to set the atmosphere and be stated at? It's kind of like that, except hostesses wear more clothing and sometimes do get touched.
