Sup guys, this gonna sound really fucking weird but i need your opinion on this. I lost a bet so i had to go to a fortune teller. I'm an atheist, i'm very sceptical to all supernatural things, and i was the last person to believe in things that have no scientific proof. Thing is, i got completely and utterly disarmed. I didn't say a thing and all my secrets, my past and present got exposed with no sweat. Furthermore, i wanted to prove that it was all coincidence and started digging. In the end, there are already 4 things that went the way i was told they will. I am not concerned about what i've heard. I am concerned about what i'm supposed to think right now. I can't even call it a fluke right now, and i'm feeling like there is something i was wrong about all the time, and i need to readjust. I also feel kind of defenceless, since it was a first damn time somebody who saw me for the first time exposed me like nobody else before. Any of you guys got some experiences in that regard? How am i supposed to react?
>>
>what is cold reading?
>what is probability?

cautiously. i always 'wanted' to believe in this sort of thing, but even when I got a job as a psychic's assistant, i proceeded with caution. he did win me over in time though and i was surprised how deep the whole thing runs.

that being said, there is no need to change your life. if anyone asks you can either lie (or fear of being judged) or simply say 'yeah, i think I believe theres some real stuff out there' and leave it at that.

keep in mind that a lot of these people are just top shelf psychologist material though.

i like my boss cuz hes a straight shooter. he doesn't try to play guessing games or start with a letter. he just tells you what he knows and lets you deal with it if you so choose.
>>
>>16769089
Believe me, i've went through alot of stuff before going so i was as prepared as one can be. I got slapped with all my personal bullshit right of the bat, so no i can't even call it a fluke right now.
>>
>>16769092
But is it normal to go to some random old lady who acts like your grandma, get a tea, don't even say a word and get slapped with all things you've kept to yourself? I felt like i was just a book, and she read me just like "every other person" I really don't want to go into details, but at first there was a curiosity, right now there's insecurity.

Oh, dude... This.

Come on. You think that everyone who has been suckered by a cold reader was stupid? No, they're good at what they do because that's how they make their living.
Please, if people could read others like that, you think they'd be working for peanuts at a fucking fortune telling shop? Jesus Christ.

It's called 'critical thinking.' Use it, OP.

>Come on. You think that everyone who has been suckered by a cold reader was stupid?

Yes and so are you
>>
>>16769097
It's their god damn job to do this! Those psychs and fortune tellers are pros, when it comes to reading people and geting them to reveal information unconciously!

Always remember: There's a one million dollar price for everyone who can prove to James Randi, that he has special powers. No one won it yet!
>>
>>16769126
James Randi is an idiotic homosexual that couldn't even figure out his gay lover was had another identity

Chrysippus, the Stoic philosopher, believed that the power of omens and augurs and divination had rational, secular sources.

His argument was that in a world run by unstoppable chains of cause/effect, there must be countless signs of things that are going to pass or have already passed all about us, that we simply don't know how to interpret. A diviner may not be tapping into the power of the Gods (who he didn't even believe existed in the traditional sense) as much as they had an ability to understand signs that others missed.

I mean he lived 2000 years ago but it's an interesting argument to say the least, if not fully accurate
>>
>>16769128
And yet he is more famous and respected than you... How does this make you feel anon?
>>
>>16769132
>more famous

Maybe to boomer faggots like yourself

I don't desire the respect of the masses, they're morons
>>
What's your personal shit and what did they say OP?
>>
>>16769126
I didn't reveal anything. I was just sitting silently and listening. I am not trying to deny or prove anything, i'm just sharing my experience. There's no way somebody can go on and tell you "you're this and this and you did this and this, that's why this and this happened" when all you did before was just say hello.
>>
For a smart person people are easy to read, just by looking the way they dress, fix their, the way they talk, posture, etc. I guess as humans we are very predictable, in psychology there are facts that can explain why a person is in certain way. There are people who can manipulate you to get information or to make you feel in certain way withot you realizing of it.

I know this whole story must seem sureal and weird to you, but what seems more likely? That your fortune teller has some magic abillities to speak with ghosts or smth. or that you gave her tiny hints without wanting to by your posture, mimic and speach?
>>
>>16769137
So i was sitting there silently, she watched, told me to set the cards, opened the 1st pile and said "you mister, have a really bad character. You go mad very easily, go head on on people who annoy you, or, if somebody stung you hard enough, you'll stay silent, keep it for yourself, and when the time comes, you stab them in the back." And that's how i work. Fuck, i even brought a friend with me to check if i'm getting fooled, and thing is when she said that and looked at my friend i instantly got reminded about our disagreement which i solved the way she said, and it ended up with us not talking to each other for over a year. Won't reveal anything else, since most of that stuff is comming out day after day, and that really concerns me.

Oh, FFS, if you're going to believe this bullshit, you're already sold, and, quite possibly, retarded. Not much reason to waste time, except to say congratulations, you're the target demographic that keeps gypsies and scammers in business.
>>
>>16769162
I have no fucking clue, like really. I even approached my sister to share what i've heard and got startled when i heard her response. For now i've told myself that if one certain thing doesn't happen, i'll oficially call all that bullshit. But if it does, i'll have to get prepared for the rest.

>>
>>16769079
Hey buddy, quite messed up mind u got there right now, before i discuss this with you , can u tell me what type or kind things that u were told happened? i mean were they a proper event or something sort of random?
>>
>>16769079
It's a skill these people poses, it's not fucking magic. How do they do it? Like others have said by your posture, facial expression, attitude etc..
>>
>>16769429
Hello, look at >>16769168
I also got told about a proper event. She told me "You had a talk with a man, tall, dark blonde hair. He told you about a way of making money, but you didn't actually care. You should rethink that" And yeah, i had a talk about that with my friend, who's tall and has dark blonde hair. He basicially explained everything, and i pretty much pissed on it, because of personal reasons. Then she started giving me an earful, because "You have 10 thousand thoughts per minute, it looks like you're living like you have to relieve something" I didn't say a word, and got shot down with "a lady, you're mad at a lady. That's why you act like that" And the thing is i had a nasty situation with my now ex-gf and because of that, i went onto a partying and datingsprees. Felt like i was living my life. Dunno how to explain all that, but all she said was on point with details.
>>
>>16769136
> implying you could if you wanted to.
>>
>>16769475
It's the same shit as horoscopes. Some general bullshit that anyone can relate to, because it's general remarks. Maybe she combined some cold reading with that and voila, you believe she is some kind of psychic.

That, or your friends told her some stuff about you before you went there.

I always wonder why those physics never reveal the winning numbers of lotteries. It's always vague and general information
>>
>>16769548
She said so many specific things that it will be easy to judge if it's all bs or not. There's one thing that's supposed to happen soon. If it does, i'll dig further, if not, i will gladly come here and tell you all it was all a fluke.
>>
>>16769592
Next time ask that bitch the next 20 winning numbers for when I (you may call me anon) play roulette at the local casino. Be sure to post them here. If she makes me win big time I'll become a belieber
>>
My wife does stuff with Tarot cards, but she comes at it from more of a Jungian-psychology perspective: no mystical claptrap, no attempts at foretelling the future, or anything like that. She sees it as a form of therapy or mental exercise. One thing she told me once is that the cards can't tell you anything that you do not, on some level, already know.

This is important to understanding how these scams work. Your fortune-teller didn't reveal your past or your secrets: you did, when prompted by a series of vague but emotionally-stirring images. Those same images have then popped back into your head at times that remind you of them, leading tou to wonder if they somehow foretold these events.

This is how fortune-teling works. Your own mind does all the work, but the act tricks you into thinking the fortune-teller did it.
