I'm currently learning with a teacher, and so far it's fun and easy.
Just take lessons a few hours a week, and practice at least 10 hours a week, and you'll be playing Led Zepplin in a year.
You have to want to though. It can't be just to get laid. It's such a fun instrument, and you should enjoy each step of getting better, rather than fixate on a set goal of manipulating women into finding you attractive. If you want to do that, learn 3 chords. It will take you a week to play 3 chord songs, and it will get you laid.

anon, if you're just looking for a hobby to make money OR get laid, but not necessarily both...

woodworking, pottery, or anything working with your hands making things can make you money. not a lot, but at least enough to cover materials and some extra for your troubles. it will not put you directly in the path of tons of available pussy, but some girls do like guys who can make their own stuff and are good with their hands (hence why they find guitar players so sexy). the only drawback is that the initial equipment costs can be a lot. a lot of people suggest things like guitar because the initial investment is only a few hundred.

cooking classes may not make you money unless you moonlight as a chef (though it might end up saving you money if you don't cook a lot now), but they will definitely help you get laid.

You should get into cars and working on them. It's therapeutic most of the time and incredibly helpful. There's usually two different paths you can take, building an off-road vehicle or build up a sporty car to be fast, handle better, etc. Also most girls love guys who can work on cars since that seems important to you.

I enjoy cooking things like chili and pasta, so that sounds really appealing. I just never really thought about it in a hobby sort of sense. There's a supermarket called HyVee that offers cooking classes, so I think I'll definitely sign up for one and check it out.
