I'm really considering picking up martial arts as a hobby. I haven't picked out what style and where I'd go to, and I've been doing extensive research on places in my area that instruct. I would really like to do this. I feel that it's a requirement to know how to fight. I think that it will drastically improve my self confidence and I'll also get in better shape. The problem, however, is that I don't have it in my to hurt someone. Even the thought of sparring makes me feel very anxious. This is something that has to change, but I just simply don't want to hurt anyone. I have very little aggression in me, and I want to change that.

Would it be a good idea if I just dove head first into this? Should I spend my money elsewhere? I'm honestly not sure.

Most martial arts is about defensive techniques.
You don't need to know how to fight to study martial arts.

Just came home from muay thai practice and pretty good sparring sessions.
AMA

>no aggression
No problem, if you're motivated and want to learn how to fight that won't hold you back. I actually thought the same of myself before I started martial arts. Like in any sport you'll come to a point where you want to win, and that's where aggression will automatically come

>I just simply don't want to hurt anyone
The hard punches and kicks are gonna happen on the pads or bags, people go easier on each other in sparring. Most people are heavily conditioned like you. They don't find it that bad when you hit them, they notice fast that they aren't made of glass, but when they hit you they quickly and deeply appologize.

>i want to learn a martial art
>but i dont even want to spar

why? why do you want to learn a martial art if its fundamentally against you

>early 30's
>kissless virgin
>no friends since high school
>shit job where I make only $20k a year
>live with mom
>generally insecure, socially awkward, borderline depressed

Given all these factors should I even try dating? Or do I have many negative qualities that literally no one would want to even go out on one date with me and I should probably work on improving a few things first?

The only woman you're going to get is the female equivalent of you - unattractive, desperate and a loser. If that's what you're okay with then sure, you could get a girlfriend.
>>
>>18608926

No one is perfect. That said, what do you have to offer? Can you at least hang out and make a girl feel apreciated?

Right now I's say you don't. So yeah, try to be a little bit happier and a positive force towards those around you.
>>
>>18608926

heres the thing: why not both?

put your self out there and see what happens. its not like all the girls you approach now are going to be the same girls you approach in say, a year from now when you improved your self.

so start improving your self, put your self out there, and see whats up.

GUIDELINES:
Before you post a question, check the FAQ to see if it's already been answered.
Keep questions short for more answers.
If you're not going to like honest answers, don't ask your question.
And please no derailing arguments.

FAQ:
>Do girls/guys like <insert specific look>?
>What do girls/guys think about <an insecurity including, but not limited to: looks, physical traits, personality traits, virginity or otherwise lack of dating experience>
There is no one answer. Preferences differ, but complexes are always a turn-off.

>I'm shy and afraid of people/rejection. What do I do?
Get over it by practising and exposing yourself to it, little by little, step by step. There is no single magical moment that will instantly change you forever.

>I like someone. What do I do?
>How can I tell if someone likes me?
Ask them out.

>Where do I meet girls/guys?
Anywhere outside. Or online.

>Someone did something insignificant. What does it mean?
Nothing significant. You're overthinking it.

>XYZ happened. Interpret this for me please
We're not in their head, we don't know.

>This person did something that hurt my feelings. Why do guys/girls do this?
Because shit people are shit people. It's not a gendered thing.

>Someone has made it super clear they're no longer interested in me. Do I still have a chance?
No.

>Where do I go on a first (or subsequent) date?
Pick one or more of the following: coffee, lunch, dinner, drinks, ice cream, movies, zoo, aquarium, museum, art gallery, <activity in your city>.

>Brandon, that guy who keeps asking about cuddling in platonic friendships, fart guy and the guy who stuffs his pants

Do Normies really have sex most weekends, or is TV lying to us?

>>18608885

its not a normies vs 4chan world mate.

some people have sex every weekend, generally ones who are attractive do it once every two weeks if they have the time / resources, maybe once a week if they really go at it and have consistent partners.. many people don't.
>>
My husband and I have sex anywhere from 0 to 10+ times a week, depending on schedule and libido.

Just FYI, since your naivety and lack of self-esteem is showing, you should stop assuming TV and other forms of media mirror real life in the slightest.
>>
>>18608885
I'd consider myself a normie. When I was single it varied greatly. I might go weeks even months without any sex then find a hookup and get it as often as humanly possible. Now I'm married, we probably average every other day. Sometimes more or less depending on schedules and what not. Also this

My BF went off to college several hundred miles away, we only ever get to talk over skype anymore, but we've been talking less and less and he pays less attention to me than he used to, I thought I know I can wait for him, but I'm afraid he isn't waiting for me, does this sort of relationship ever work?

Pic probably unrelated, I just clicked one without looking, I'm pretty upset right now, we were supposed to spend today together in skype and he hasn't been on.

Sometimes it works but you can be sure at least one person fucked someone else and did not say anything.
I mean how will you ever know if he did?

I feel like a lead weight just got put around my neck. Is it reasonable that maybe his power is out or his ISP is out, and maybe he hasn't been giving me the same attention because he's busy with studying? I want to marry him, I'm in crisis mode right now

So, I recently considered going into bounty hunting. Not because of what I have seen on TV, but because I feel that its a little easier than being a police officer. I live in California, and was wanting some advice about it. Any past experience would be helpful. Is it more dangerous than police work? Should I just become a police officer instead?

have fun dealing with all of the scumbags of society without any of the protection or training that actual law enforcement has.
>>
>>18608748
Yeah, I saw that. These fuckers were a bunch of idiots because they came into the dealership without their vests on. And from what I read up, you have to go through over 40 to 60 hours of training to be able to arrest people. Besides, these two fuckers were fat as fuck and went for their guns instead of a tazer. They looked like they didn't even know what the fuck they were doing.
>>
>>18608742
>Is it more dangerous than police work?

You'd be tracking down criminals who have failed to appear in court, skipped bail, and have gone into hiding so that they don't stand trial. You'll be dealing almost exclusively with violent, drug addicted, pieces of shit every day and your job is to drag them kicking and screaming to the police station. Yes, it's going to be more dangerous than average police work.

getting sick of my gf using her phone all the fucking time. half of the time we spend together, she'll be checking her phone every couple of minutes. she seems to be addicted to instagram and snapchat, and updating her story and in constant communication with her friends, i just don't get people like that, i've never felt the urge to be in constant contact with friends when i'm out having fun

even when we've had serious arguments, she'll still have her phone out, one time she even started replying to one of her friends in the midst of an argument.

when we first started dating, i didn't notice it at first because she was being polite. but now in a relationship, she's comfortable being rude. she had a go at me one time for being too quiet, right after she'd just sat there staring at her phone for 5 minutes

i've brought it up a few times but it's not changed anything

really irritating and ruins the time we spend together. anyone else have this problem?

Get a new GF.
You will never be able to convince her to no do that and if she is like that you can easily be replaced if you do not want to put up with her.
I would never date a woman who is more interested at what she has on her phone than me.
Get yourself a gf who is not a phone zombie.
>>
>>18608688
I don't have this problem because i am not dating a normie.
I got lucky and managed to get a qt that shares the same views as me about this modern age.
>>
>>18608688
My GF has ADD and goes from watching TV to checking her phone to watching snapchat videos to having a conversation with me every few minutes. I used to get really irritated when we'd be watching a movie in bed and she'd start playing snapchat or youtube videos on her phone with the volume up, watch that shit for a minute or two, and then put the phone down only to pick it back up and watch something else 10 minutes later. One time I was drunk and told her how fucking annoying that shit was and now she at least mutes the volume on her phone when we're watching netflix together.

It is pretty crazy how everyone is glued to their phones / other devices these days. Just go out to eat somewhere or sit in a waiting room and see how 9/10 people are staring at their phones at any given moment.

I have a weird problem that i would like to turn into a solution. Some music provokes feelings in me that are too fucking intense.

And i think it must be about one of the few interesting things about me, like, i should be able to chanel this into something good (like writing music for my own)

but this is an overwhelming feeling that leaves me totally unable to do anything, for instance when i listen to some particular songs i just get into a very emotional state on the verge of tears.

is there a way to fix this?

So I have a friend who evidently has been neglecting one of his dogs for years. I feel physically sick about it and want to get the dog some treatment. He is fed every day but as far as I can tell they never wash him and he has raised black skin from what I understand is bacteria/fungus. He has missing fur and red skin in a lot of places from scratching and the last time I saw him he looked depressed with a bone dry nose and mucous, bloodshot eyes. This dog is fucked up! I want to take him to the vet for my friend but here are my concerns:
1. I don't want to compromise the identity of the owner
2. Even if I am not the owner, I am worried that I could get into legal trouble or even arrested.
Seriously I have never seen a dog in such a horrid condition and I just want to make him feel better. Idc that it isn't my dog and I am not interested in getting my friend into legal trouble. (My friend is poor asf with children so he doesn't have time or money but I have both) please help. What the hell do I do?

I've just been invited to a surprise birthday party where I only know the guy who is celebrating it. I'm very shy and anxious in social contexts, I'm afraid I'll have a hard time there, should I accept the invitation? My heart is racing in fear right now just by the thought of it.

>>18608332
Its 4chan. The shy and anxious are all around you.

It was nice that you were asked to be there. If you like the guy celebrating it, try to go.
If it isn't working after half an hour, slip out quietly. Its what I do.
>>
Just know that inversely, no one knows (or really cares) who you are at the party too. They aren't going to be concentrating on you or judging you. If you're feeling like being adventurous, go and see what happens. Like this anon says >>18608381 leave if it gets uncomfortable.

If you are feeling overwhelmingly shy and anxious though, I'd consider not going to a party where you only know one person.
>>
>>18608404
Good points >>18608404 Its feels a bit safer when everybody else is a stranger. Being anonymous is comforting.

>female
>meet a cool guy online
>click easily
>we end up trusting each other
>exchange 'secrets' and personal info
>vent to each other from time to time

Okay, so my main concern is that I don't want him to feel like I'm using him for emotional support only. He sometimes complains to me too, but it happens less often than me complaining to him. I apologised to him for being bothersome with my problems but he said that it's okay and that I can always come to him with my worries. I like him a lot and I don't want to do anything that would make him feel bad. I'm trying not to burden him with my shit but he is at the moment simply the most trustworthy person in my life. I have normal friends, I'm close with family members but for whatever reason I feel the most comfortable around him. But like I said, I like him and would hate to cause him any distress or make him feel like a beta orbiter. So guys, how would you feel if your female friend kept seeking your advice and kept confiding in you? Would you mind?

100% depends on how he sees you. First off, I'm assuming you only see him as a friend, right?
>>
>>18608251

Maybe he can handle it. Maybe he is crushing on you.

By the way you write, you seem to have no idea about how he feels about anything. That's a problem. Why do you think that is, that you don't tell us much about his emotional state?
>>
just go ahead and date him

>BUT I DONT FEEL THAT WAY

okay, os you don't want this guy to feel like an emotional tampon, but your intent is to only use him as an emotional tampon? if not, just makme sure you focus o having fun and doing normal stuff instead of just talking about problems.

>would oyu mind?

probably. but only cuz im a gay misogynist.

I posted about this the other day and yous told me to talk to him about it. Well I did and instead of actually talking about it he deflected to telling me that he was upset that I helped my ex towards getting a job the other day. Because I wanted to be a decent human I needed to talk to ex for at least the afternoon to get his info and send it off to whoever. And I told my partner about it because I figured since I was so messed up about him talking to his ex all the time that I shouldn't hide it. Now he's all grumpy and won't speak to me.

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong here but I feel like every time I try to have a heart to heart conversation with him he just tries to turn it into a competition where he has to win. I don't know what to do.

Sounds like a tough situation. You're going to have to turn it into a serious talk and when he tries to deflect, call him on it. This is not an easy thing to do of course, but it's either this or let it keep going into whatever it is right now.

Doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong, sometimes people are just difficult. If he's starting to have feelings for an ex and talk to them all the time again, and you KNOW it, you're going to have to tell him you don't give a shit if he doesn't like it, he'll have to talk about it.

Maybe not so harshly, but that's what it will have to be. Don't let him (or anyone) play a mind game on you that turns you into the bad guy when they're the one in question. It's the oldest ""Alpha"" trick in the book. I've done it. Not proud of it.
