i remember some time ago here someone posted a guide on how to make someone emotionally dependent on you. i recall it including something about withholding affection, becoming affectionate, or something to that effect. i'd appreciate it if someone would post it here for me.

Is it possible to contact my county's social services for the purpose of acquiring food stamps, healthcare, housing, etc. without alerting the local police? I am under the impression that both fall under state government, but it would be immensely helpful if I could access one resource without getting the attention of another.
Some things to consider:
- I am a minor, but I do not live with anyone. I am not emancipated. Hence the whole "not alerting the police" thing.
- I am in rural Commiefornia, so they're used to providing wellfare for people who don't want to be found by the police. This may help.
- I have to physically enter their office. There will be no opportunity for me to contact them through any other means.

No. I was raised on welfare all of my life. They never needed so much as a signature from me, or a face to face interview with me.

The point being, the parent is the one that has to initiate all applications on your behalf, because as a minor, you have no rights of your own. As you alluded to, you already know the answer: emancipation. But there's no way your parents won't find out, since they're supported serve your parents with a legal notice about what's going on, in case they wish to contest it.

tl;dr no. why are you trying to get benefits without your parents knowing? And why can't your parents just get them for you, if you believe you qualify?

Has anyone here ever been to or regularly attend a toastmasters club? I looked at the map and was surprised how many clubs meet in my town alone, with one even right at the the end of my street that meets weekly. I'm considering going to one to work on some anxiety, confidence and such. I'm just curious. What is the attendance like for any given club that meets weekly? What happens at a meeting? What's your experience been like? Has it been helpful for any anons?

I've only been to one meeting, but you can get an idea of what happens by looking at their website. It says you don't need to participate the first time you go, so you can just watch. However, I was asked to participate and declined, because I couldn't think of a speech on the spot. It starts with prepared speeches, then moves to spontaneous topics. Everyone wrote feedback for each speaker. The speeches were timed.

I live in a big city, and about 20 people showed up. 4 were first timers.

It can apparently vary a lot in culture from branch to branch even within the same city. It was fun listening to people's talks, but it involves some socializing. There is mingling before and after the club activities, with one break in the middle. Everyone was very nice.

I expect it would help someone become a better speaker and more at ease just from the practice in front of an audience. There's nothing to lose by going to one meeting imo.

What is your usual experience with smoking weed OP? Have you been buying from a new dealer recently? Has who you've been buying from recently lower their prices?

What makes life worth living to you, /adv/? Do you value your relations and loved ones, or is it more important that you leave some "mark" on the world? Do you believe in a higher power? Are you just a nihilistic hedonist?

I've always had a hard time living in the "here and now." I don't think I could ever live for family, or material wealth, or anything that's limited to just "me." I've always felt an appeal for things outside of myself, that will last long after I'm gone. But I feel like approaching thirty with zero talents, accomplishments, connections, etc. and a plethora of psychological issues I have to accept that I'm probably never going to accomplish anything "meaningful." How do I deal with this? Do I just kms?

I don't have an universal answer, but what makes life worth living for me is the fact that I really love being a graphic designer and I want to become the master of this field, possibly even create my own agency before I die.

Another motivation is holding on long enough to get myself a qt 3D artsy waifu.

I sorta get this feeling. Im well paid now after coming from a poor family and sometimes i just think, is this it

Hey guys so here is the deal. I am moving to a new city, not too far away but about 2 and a half hour drive, and going to uni. I'm going to have my own apartment, but I've never lived alone before so I am a little worried. I am most worried that I will get really lonely living alone. I've pretty much lived with my parents my entire life so this will be a big change. I consider myself an involuntary introvert, meaning I don't mind going out and doing fun things, like drinking at the bar, but I don't really have anyone to go with in this new city. I guess any advice about the loneliness thing would be appreciated.

Don't make the mistake I made where every time I've lived by myself, I've developed alcoholism.

I recommend you stave off loneliness by spending maximum amount of time outside your 4 walls and around campus or something. If you have a weekend or something where you have to spend entire day alone, try to go to store, walk somewhere to get a take out or if possible, try to find out if any of your neighbors goes to the same school and then make friends.

Some other advice I can give from personal experience is that before you go, download a shitload of movies to watch. Movies are such a good way to spend that time alone. Also, buy some books, maybe even something related to field you are interested in.
>>
>>18584615
Well, first things first, the basics:
Cook.
Cleaning (clothes, your apartment).
Bills.
Buying stuff consistently.
Know where places like a hospital or police department are.

It might be difficult at first to get used to it because one does not realize how many things our parents do for us until we live alone, it will take you a bit to get used to live alone. And except you know how to cook well, you will be eating pizza quite a lot.

Having said that, it's a great opportunity anon, you can go to see your parents anytime you want, you have an apartment for yourself and nobody else, meaning you can meet people and take them there without worrying about who is there.
Loneliness, at least what I believe, will be the least of your thoughts because you will meet people at uni and you can invite them to your new home.
Now, about going drinking, it's okay, you will surely go with your uni friends or you can go alone, not a big deal. You can also go for a walk and get to know the city.

I have been trying for hours to make a bootable Windows usb from an iso, but everytime I try to boot from it I get told to reboot and select proper Boot device.

I use Linux as my primary OS and I use the dd command to make the bootable iso. It works like a charm when using iso's for diferent Linux distros, but allways fails when trying iso's for Windows distros. So far I have tried Windows XP and Windows 7, both with the same result.

What am I doing wrong?

Yo guys and gals of /adv/. I need some advice for "in the bedroom".

My girlfriend and I have been having sex more and more recently. I'd say at least twice per night.

One of her kinks is dirty talk and insults. I've been saying shit like "you feel so tight" and "take it you bitch" and that shit drives her wild. While she says shit like "faster anon" or "cum in/on my mouth/pussy/tits".

Though lately her and I both feel we're just saying the same stuff and we can't really find new shit to say.

What do? Just keep saying the usual shit? Do you have any good things to say in bed? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Do roleplays?
>>
>>18584494
Maybe you can role play some scenarios. Doesn't have to be something elaborate like playing the plumber. It could be as simple as pretending that someone is in the next room and you want to put on a show for them. That would add context for new lines.
>>
>>18584505
>>18584500

We've tried roleplay in the past. She enjoys it fairly well, but has a hard time leading up to sex. I'm a bit the same way, I don't know really what to say or do until we're already fucking.

Who knew this shit was so complicated?

I'm at a crossroads in life right now.

Precursor: I live with family, and I don't pay rent or utilities. I pay for anything I need. I bike everywhere. I used to work at McD. I got most of my money from community college funding (FAFSA) and scholarships.

I'm a Graphic Design major with a 3.5 GPA and I just graduated with an associate's degree from a community college. This degree is NOT in my major, but being used to transfer to a University to get my bachelor's in that major.

So here's the issue:
I have until August 30th to submit my application for admission. I actually attend class sometime in Fall 2018, if I get accepted.

I have $150 after the $55 application fee. To attend I will NEED to take out loans.

For the past 2 months I've been applying for local design jobs, and haven't gotten a call back from any. I visited any I could in person, and applied on all major listing sites like Indeed, Monster, Careerbuilder, etc...
Most jobs in my field require a bachelor's, 2-5 years experience, or the commute is too far.

This week I've expanded my online search to ANY entry-level job.

Do I keep whatever job I get and wait to apply until I have the funds, or do take out the loans and possibly ruin my future?

P.S. Driver's license but no car.
P.P.S. I will live at the on-campus apartments.

Inhouse graphic designer here.

My current job is not perfect and I am currently applying for agency, but it's good enough to gather working experience.

Best option is to get any design job, even if it's a shitty small print shop or a startup, and ideally work there. If you can't get it, next best option is to attend school, but focus on getting a good internship by the end. I had 2.5 years of art school where I was mostly dicking around, not taking shit seriously, getting drunk all the time and shit, but I got a nice internship which gave me more than all these 2.5 years in total.

Whatever you do, don't settle for non-field-related jobs unless it's to support school or strictly temporary means while applying for design jobs.

How normal is it to repeat a year at university? I'm 21 and working towards a degree in IT I failed one of the subjects during my last year so I will be forced to repeat it next year before I graduate. Do recruiters care about that sort of thing? I didn't manage to get a summer internship this time so I'm spending time studying but I can't help but worry.

I didn't get good enough grades to get through to the next stage in my programme so I repeated two papers. I've never been questioned about it, but then again, I have excellent grades for the final stages of my degree and I've published research.

I wouldn't worry about it, but make sure you're able to explain it if you're asked. It's something that employers may want to know about.

how do I find people with the same views as me irl if they aren't currently socially acceptable?

>>

>>18584357
Yeah, it's tough. I guarantee you that you know people with similar beliefs, it's just that everyone has to keep them quiet because society polices thought so much these days.

There are certain symbols that most normies won't understand that /pol/-tier dudes will. It's a risky endeavor, but you could try to display some of those symbols. The flag of the Northwest Front comes to mind: http://northwestfront.org/

Really just depends on your particular beliefs though.

Really not sure how to do it otherwise....

Why do I keep having dreams about this girl who rejected me a year ago? I keep waking up depressed when it happens. I don't even think about her anymore, yet she keeps popping up in my dreams occasionally.

idk go look up ways to manipulate your dreams right before your sleep. I am no sleep expert but try looking up stuff for example taking vitamin B6 makes your dreams more vivid, so just try and see if you can find anything that can deter her from your dreams (even if it sounds a bit silly it is atleast worth the try.)
>>
>>18584759
Holy shit I was actually directly taking b6 because I happened to have extra lying around, maybe that's it
>>
>>18585057
Lol! out of all the examples I couldve gave out it had to be a direct one. Guess we will have to wait and see if it works.
