Its her feeling lonely. Whether or not she actually misses you or just wants some validation to help her lonliness pass is debatable - as is how you should respond if at all. Totally your call bro, it was your relationship.

You already knew all this though.

Bro, DO NOT take the bait. Please for your sake do not take the bait. If you act on this and get back together even just to hook up you will regret it.

Only time I've ever nostalgic texts from an ex was when they had an interest in getting back together.

As for what to do that's up to you.

Hey /adv/

Physics degree here, stuck in a shit job and trying to find a new one. what kind of jobs/field would you recommend to apply for ( I usually go for entry level engineering, but no luck so far)? Anyone have a similar background and have some tips?

Also if I go back to school, should I go for ME, EE, CompSci, etc?
inb4 I know people say it all depends what you want to do with your life; some people know and some don't, and unfortunately I'm in the "don't know" camp.
I've tried so many things; I just don't fucking know anymore
Become a teacher until you figure it out

or until it's too late to back out

and then you're married

and you have a kid

and then you focus on family, because that's what really matters in life.

Physics degree here. I started in IT as a programmer and later went into finance. Being a quant is an awesome job that I would recommend to anyone who can do it.

Any Oxford students here? I have a question aimed specifically at maths students, but I have a second question for Oxonians in general:

(I'm an American applicant, so you may be unfamiliar with some of the things I talk about.)

I'm applying to Oxford this year, which is also my postgrad year (after having finished my 12th year of school). My high school was absolutely terrible; the majority of its graduates end up attending a community college after finishing school. (Enrolling in a community college is kind of like doing foundation courses in the UK). In short, its education standards (and many of its students' prospects) are mediocre. The most rigorous class I've taken is AP Calculus BC. Would you happen to know how this might affect my application? How do I inform Oxford about my circumstances?

It seems that Oxford likes it when A-Level pupils take Further Maths, which I imagine is more difficult/rigorous than AP Calculus BC, right? The most advanced concept we got to in BC Calc was Taylor series. Would that make me seem unqualified and/or hurt my chances?

Unrelated question I was curious about: do the students that apply at age 16 have an edge or a disadvantage in comparison to those who are 17/18 at time of application?

Second, general question:

How would you feel about Malala accepting Oxford's offer? Some say her offer exists pretty much solely because of her compelling story, and not because she fits into the Oxonian meritocracy. What do you think?

Thanks a lot friends

Not familiar with Oxford whatsoever, but I got into Harvard from a shitty public high school with no AP classes.
You should probably post this on College Confidential or something rather than 4chan.

I'm a 6'1" white male, very skinny.

I feel I have very little fashion sense. I usually wear cargo shorts with a T-Shirt, or jeans with a T-Shirt, or a button up shirt with the buttons up near the collar. (Basically not all the way down)

I also wear black running shoes but the color of my appearal is varied.

What do most people wear that is fashionable for men, but also not completely fuckin flamboyant and crazy? I don't want to just wear basic stuff like pants and shirts anymore. What do? I don't even know the proper terms for the clothes I wear...

Pic unrelated. Just grabbed from google.

Do you want fashionable or durable? Often you only get one.

What's your budget?

I'm mildly muscular and prefer higher natural waist cut pants and shorts so I wear Dickies brand. Cheap, tough.

Shirts are just some spandex/poly/cotton blend so they hug slightly and don't sag or bag out.

Your own fashion sense (however judgmental of it you may be) is probably best. If you go off others opinions you could just end up chasing a rabbit hole where you'll end up dressing or looking like a joke and have spent way too much money on bullshit you don't need.

Just do you, man.
>>
>>18652545
>Just do you, man.
Huh, completely forgot about that. The only thing I really don't like is my shoes.

Thank you.

I'm in a position where I'll have to pick what I want to do in college soon, but I have no idea what path to follow. It seems like everything I'm interested in doesn't really offer too many career paths that I can earn a decent living from.

Some of the things I find interesting

>Linguistics/languages (kinda vague)
>English/literature/writing
>History (ancient)
>Philosophy (I know many people say it's useless to study it, but I've always really loved reading on it, and I feel passionate about it, but I know people tend to look down on humanities subjects–I know it's probably best to avoid this unless I want to teach)
>Psychology
>Anthropology (vague, I know.)

Most of the stuff I mentioned, I just love to read about and find interesting.

I just don't know what sort of careers I could make out of these. It's not like I'm looking for a career that I'll end up extremely wealthy from. Just something that I can enjoy but at the same time earn a decent enough income to build an alright life for myself.

Has anyone here studied any of these subjects and found or know of decent career paths? I'd love to here some success/failure stories/advice. Or on the other hand, if you've studied something in a similar vein and have stories/advice too I'd love to hear about it.

Thank you

Speaking from someone who has spent almost 6 years on and off in degree program and is just now finishing a BSBA after switching from BS accounting:

Your best bet is to just pick something that is currently in demand and try and find a way to wrap your strengths around it. Absolutely none of the stuff you listed is going to shit for you in terms of a real career unless you want to teach, which in that case, pick anything.

I suggest looking into IT/Medical/Business or Government (if you live in the US).

The world of tech and business is particularly vast, and you can't seem to go wrong with a Bus. Admin. Degree because everyone always needs managers. It's not something that can be outsourced.

Dig into the various departments at the colleges you're looking at and see what specific degrees they offer in high demand fields and like I said try and wrap your own interests into it.

And don't be so quick to cross off skilled tradesmen careers, such as electricians or plumbers. There's a huge dearth of skilled labor right now in the US and if you do it right many tradesman can make six figures once you've been in the field 10+ years.

Renewable energy is a fast grower too, so might want to look into working on/building/designing solar or wind farms. It's a real hot field right now.

The worst thing I ever did was believe only white collar jobs were worth looking at, and now looking back 10+ years I realize I'm not as cut out for them as say, a carpenter or police officer.
>>
And for fucks sake don't go to a private school unless you're goddamn certain that's where you want to go and you can afford it, because your butthole will be feeling those loan payments for eternity if you aren't careful.

Read an article a while back that showed while schools like Harvard Yale etc. Increased the hiring chances/selling power for prospective employees, many HR companies said they were as equally happy with their hiring decisions between both state/public Universities and private.

Meaning, in all reality, with small exception, the degree you pay out your butthole for is only going to stack points on your chances of getting a job, not necessarily anything else, and the price tag may not be worth that marginal uptick.

More money |= Better degree.

You matched so she doesn't hate you. Confront and take action. Don't be weird either. Just tell her that you admire her for who she is (girls dig this shit). Then if she asks for specifics, ask for a chance to see more of her so you can relay it to her.

Be honest, but not creepy or clingy. Talk about her positive traits in a casual way.

Hey, anons. This is my third year at university, and I'm still alone. Every day, I wake up, go to class, come back to my dorm, shitpost until I go to sleep, then repeat the process. I've never had many friends, but spending the past few years alone has gotten very tiring. Maybe I come off as intimidating? I've had strangers ask me why I never smile or say I looked scary, it's really not a good feeling. Between that and not being able to relate to people when it comes to experiences, goals, aspirations, or popular things, I've been in a bit of a pickle. I'll answer any questions here until I fall asleep, then I'll be back either early in the morning or around noon.

I can relate. I'm not in uni, but people are pretty clearly intimidated by me and I don't make friends often, but I also don't feel the need to. Why do you feel like you intimidate people? How do you behave and hold yourself? I have my reasons, and if they're comparable maybe I can offer some advice. Though I should mention I'm don't really share the desire for friends that you do. They either come around or they don't. I've never made friends with someone I had to try with, so that's gonna be my first piece of advice; don't make friends with someone you can't be yourself around in SOME capacity. I know you'll need to hold back on a lot of things but you have to find some common, genuine ground
>>
Same, but I'm a freshman. Don't know why I come off as intimidating or hard to approach

Are you in any clubs? Even as a 3rd year it's not weird to join one. Sometimes the best way to begin a friendship is shared interests. They work as social lubricant and help people open up to one another.

(If you're a weeb, the anime club is actually probably a great place for you. At least from my experience, anyone can fit in there.)

My mother recently gone through spinal surgery. Yeah I was scared, but imagine how your mother is feeling. You need to be there for her and support her in every way, I bet the last thing she wants you to do is to be worried. Sallow it and be strong <3
>>
>>18652443
Depends on what she does for a living or for fun. I'm an "artist" and I ended up cancelling hand surgery for a benign cyst on a tendon for fear of losing my range of motion. One of my friends plays guitar and skates and I'm constantly worried he'll fuck his hand up.

Good luck, OP. It's normal to be antsy about these kinds of things.

Start talking to girls with the intention of finding a gf. One of two things will happen.

1). You get a gf. Success!
2). You realize what a complete waste of time chasing women are and give up completely.

That dirty, double crossing rat.

I've been paying attention to my dreams a lot more than reality lately (mostly because I've been not thinking/doing much lately) and I'm different in them, even when I'm aware of the dream my personality is unburdened... I have social anxiety and apparently autism, but in dreams I function better.

Now I will get weird, but I've been meeting people in dreams (mostly fictional, but some I think were "real" people) - all these dreams have been deeply meaningful, like they explain my subconscious problems... But most amazing are the "real" people I met who were like angels in their behavior, so kind and not of anything I ever knew in this world...

Amazingly they say goodbye to me right when the dream ends!!!!

One was a Black guy who was lecturing me, but he had a hardy laugh (like a really likeable comedian) and he hugged me gently at the end of the dream while laughing hardily (hugging like that from a masculine male, people would think it's effeminate/weak)... He was trying to motivate me to work, earn, get social disability if I need it.

Another was a cat lady, she liked turning into a literal cat, but she was sweet and kind... It was like a friendly date... At the end we literally walked outside, hugged goodbye, she told me she's going back to her normal life and I woke up right there.

Many examples like this...

So do you want some advice here or...?

>what's "real"?
What do you mean?
Dreams are real in a sense that people can experience them but they don't have a material counterpart. You aren't going to another reality when you dream.
>>
>>18652413
What I do with my life, I try to find it and I think it's similar to these people in my dreams. Do you understand why I like those people? Few are like them, so much energy put into being good people...

I question what the meaning of life is, and if what I wanted was ever what I really wanted...

>You aren't going to another reality when you dream.
Maybe your analysis is wrong, you're like not even open to an explanation.
>>
>>18652538
>you're like not even open to an explanation.
What do you mean? I am willing to talk to you here but that doesn't mean I have to agree with you.
I will accept it as a possibility when there's anything to back it up with.
If someone goes "hey what if everyone are actually just rabbits?" I'm not gonna go "who knows!". There has to be something to point that way. Otherwise it's just weed philosophies

how long does no contact take to work?

I've heard 4 weeks, I've heard 8 weeks, and I've heard 'when you feel like it'.

It's certainly not normal for teens get their dog to lick their balls. However I'm sure a lot of teens have experimented with other weird sexual things.
>>
>>18652352
Wouldn't know since I never had a dog but I have to say I'd never let a dog's mouth come anywhere near my balls, you never know if he's gonna mistake them for tennis balls and just grab them, you are a brave man my dude

I've been with my gf for about 5 months. I see her once a week or two. She lives close by but likes her space and hanging out with friends. Almost all her friends are males and she goes to bars and has, "platonic sleepover nights" with them. Sometimes when her and I are together her friends will show up and start taking all her attention. I even stopped them from trying to kiss her many times.

I'm a confident alpha guy but should I be worried?

Talk to her about it. If she isn't willing to have a conversation about it then get out before you get more attached. Make sure you both have the same idea about the level of commitment involved with your relationship. Don't get cucked anon, I believe in you.

You should leave her only if you dont like her no more, cause if she's like that, its not that she's crazzy, but she really needs help, she looks like a drepessive person, and you need to find out what makes her that way, and she really need to look for a specialist help.
